FPZ was the last FP with any real character, it also came with a history of book. Z sounds like the CMLL ring. Returns had the same annoying "ha-oh, ha-oh, ha-oh". The story modes are my favorite because Ive been watching japanese wrestling since the late 80s and love seeing the old versions of wrestlers. Anyone looking to import this should know its a CD not DVD so burning copies is literally just like copying a music cd, no special program, and it runs perfect with HD Loader.
I think another thing that hurt FPWZ was that it was a blue bottom CDROM disc which for some reason the PS2 had difficulty reading...well atleast mine and my father's.
It's also really difficult to emulate, which is why the footage in this review is rough (had to capture with my Elgato, whereas I got the Returns footage from PCSX2)

Z is awesome! The story modes are great. I like the original "pro wrestling" style sprites over the FPWX till now robots. Thats because WWE guys were playing D and G and Vince caught wind of it. Thats why returns had such a shit gaijin roster.

Plus there's a wrestler who first appeared in Fire Pro Z and that is Shinsuke Nakamura, you can find him in the game and you can play as him or other wrestlers.
I should go back and play Z's story mode now that I have a bit more of a grasp of Japanese. I enjoyed that there were little bits of storyline branching based not only on dialogue choices, but on winning when you're supposed to lose historically. Like I somehow recall that actually beating Naoya Ogawa as Shinya Hashimoto changed things slightly, for example.

Firepro Z was the previous game with the free dreamcast dlc in it, without the illegally licensed wrestlers in it......one of my favorite titles, be it that returns Creation menu was a tad much to navigate through...playing through victory road now with 150 fighters defeated
Well, I hated Fire Pro G's story mode a little bit, but for me I like Fire Pro Z's story mode and it was amazing, you can either play as Mitsuharu Misawa, Keiji Mutoh, Shinya Hashimoto or Masahiro Chono and relieve their own stories from the past.

IMO Returns biggest flaws were no Chanpion Road and the worst roster of the entire series. So you had to play make believe to much. I hate creating my own matches and picking my opponent everytime. Half the fun of Champ Road was seeing what locked character you were facing next. Miracle Violence connection were always my go to team.
z sucked because of the squashed sprites. also maybe hard to explain but they went a new route away from G in terms of the match flow. in G matches frequently required several successive powerful moves to be put away. Z if i recall correctly totally erased that and made it lame. Returns was somewhere in between

I prefer the story mode in G, which allowed you to creat a wrestler and work your way up from the dojo to stardom.
