My eyes are stinging. This is the world we leave our grandchildren. What will their children inherit? My heart aches, and it rages. Thank you, Paul Kelly. Thank you.
Omfg I just balled my eyes out... Sharing the shit outta this... Hopefully this streams a trend and a breakthrough to save our flora and fauna.. our country. Proud waramungu woman 🙌🙌🙌
We shoulda listened to you mob 200 odd years back. But hey...gubbas know everything. Not! Balling my eyes out for this country. From Wurunjeri Country with love and hope XXX
Beautiful song! Very poignant and sad. This song deserves to be heard by all Australians, especially politicians. Let’s try to make it top of the charts!
Thank you Paul Kelly may everyone awake daily with the quest to take action & protect the lives of all species, our future generations, there is no where else to go. Love Australian wildlife, thankful kelp forests remembered 💞🕊
The voice of the world - it’s REAL - thank you for your casual, peaceful, subliminal brilliance - love to all the folk involved in the creation of this.
I wish I was there at The Tivoli that night when Paul officially launched the song at the pub choir. I should start going to pub choirs some day. I was very fortunate enough to go see Paul play at The Riverstage in December and I’m glad I got upfront close to the stage belting out his amazing songs over the last 4 decades. This song in particular, I don’t know how to describe it as more than beautiful but also heartbreaking at the same time. The start of this year has been one of the saddest, The saddest in Australia’s history, one of the saddest for me since the 2011 Brisbane floods in the 20 years of my life so far. Australia has just had the worst and longest bushfire period in recent memory. Watching people in fear, agony, grief, frustration and desperately trying to flee. Firefighters locally, interstate and overseas working tirelessly to put out the fires. People heroically saving our wildlife, sadly some weren’t lucky. Just looking at those images I thought, “This cannot be Australia.” We’re referred to as “The lucky country.” But I don’t feel it’s like that anymore. Even though the fires are starting to extinguish now, The recovery period will take a very long time. Rebuilding will take a long time. The physical and emotional scars of this disaster may never fully heal. And even though I was safe from the bushfires because I’m from Queensland, I could not escape the emotional impact as well. As sad as this song may sound, just singing this song is a form of healing to me. And I hope this song will one day send a clear message to our “leaders” who should be leading and not enriching themselves. Thank you Paul for this wonderful piece of art. I hope this song will bring everyone closer.
Absolutely beautiful song & such a powerful video. I’ve shared it because it has such a powerful message. Well done to all involved putting this together. ✌🏽❤️🇦🇺
Sleep, Australia, sleep The night is on the creep Shut out the noise all around Sleep, Australia, sleep And dream of counting sheep Jumping in fields coloured brown Who'll rock the cradle and cry? Who'll rock the cradle and cry? Sleep, Australia, sleep As off the cliff the kingdoms leap Count them as they say goodbye Count down the little things The insects and birds Count down the bigger things The flocks and the herds Count down our rivers Our pastures and trees But there's no need to hurry Oh, sleep now, don't worry 'Coz it's only a matter of degrees Fog, Australia, fog Just like the boiling frog As we go we won't feel a thing Who'll rock the cradle and cry? Who'll rock the cradle and cry? Sleep, my country, sleep As off the cliff the kingdoms leap Count them as they pass on by Our children might know them But their children will not We won't know 'til it's gone All the glory we've got But there are more wonders coming All new kinds of shows With acid seas rising To kiss coastal mountains And big cyclones pounding And firestorms devouring And we'll lose track of counting As the corpses keep mounting But hey, that's just the way this old world goes Sleep, my country, sleep As we sow so shall we reap Who'll rock the cradle and cry?
The tragic and painful truth of humanity upon one of the most unique and special lands on the planet .. and the life that was put here and belonged. We are killing the Dreaming and nothing will cry for us when we are gone.
watch to twice and had Waterworks in the eyes each time ,great creation of truth of big things that really do matter in the world, I'm sharing this video
Wow! I heard this song on New Year 2020-2021... found the official video and it made more sense to me now. :( I am so depressed and disappointed at my own kind and at the same time feel sorry and my heart ♥️ feels broken... so many emotions. :( I know that Mother Earth is hurting, but I honestly didn’t knew how bad Australian was impacted by climate changes. It has such unique forms of life too. This need to get viral world wide, to save Australia! Screw the political views... we should do it as human beings and save. Australia as a continent that holds unique forms of life! :( For 2021, I wish for humans all over the world to unite and finally stop destroying their own home and start helping it heal. My heart ♥️ goes out to you Australia 🇦🇺!
John Denver did not come close to practicing what he preached. He was an outsized gigantic consumer of energy, as most entertainers have always been. I have always thought John Denver was a good guy, even if his music never impressed me, but don't you see how he shouldn't be sainted for writing songs about the environment while he rode around in his private helicopter? I always get so pissed off at messages like you just wrote. Paul Kelly is a great artist.I have been loving his music for forty years.
Get pissed off all you like,i was merely referring to the words of that song , that is the way we are heading, many things disappearing and becoming a memory.
Count them as they pass on by .... Our children might know them But their children will not... ... And we'll lose track of counting As the corpses keep mounting But hey, that's just the way this old world goes... 🐨 🐨 🐨
The wickedness of inaction towards climate change - or biological terminus as I prefer to call it - is in the brutal hopelessness we default upon an unborn generation who simply will not have the time to learn how to reverse it. Their only blessing is that they may also not have the time to understand it either. We’ll sing them lullabies, lies and laments - just like Paul Kelly.
Well done Paul, Love your storytelling music 😀 "Sleep Australia Sleep" "Sleep World Sleep" Hopefully (EVERYONE) IN the World will wake up tomorrow and do something about it now before there is no tomorrow to wake up to, from little things big things grow ✌
@@campbellmanderson943 Wonderful song, and great video! We certainly need to protect our environment. But we have always had terrible drought, floods and bushfires. Not convinced about the global warming arguments. Andrew Bolt has great insights.
I love the music in this video but the message is so sad and scary. The video made me appreciated that the global warming is a really large and scary problem that we face and I suppose this is a problem that needs international cooperation to be solved, not just individuals or school dropouts. Faced with the evidence, even many deniers have started to admit that global warming is real, but argue that humans have little or nothing to do with it; however, the facts speak for themselves. Now it's up to governments and scientist to make it a reality and try to come with a solution to prevent worsening storms and rising sea levels from destroying all life. Science has been quite embattled. It's the most important thing there is. An arts graduate or a school dropout will not going to fix global warming. They may do other valuable things, but they are not going to fix the planet or cure cancer or get rid of malaria. The task of dealing with global warming is urgent and important and needs to be tackled by everyone but most of all, governments and scientists of the world who can really make a difference, or NOT!
My eyes are stinging. This is the world we leave our grandchildren. What will their children inherit? My heart aches, and it rages. Thank you, Paul Kelly. Thank you.
This song wrenches my already broken heart. A masterful contribution from a wise sage within the tower of song.

Thank you, Paul. Australia and the world need to hear this bitter sweet song...
This makes me so proud . Paul Kelly WOW. I am a proud Australian; I love my country.
A hymn for all we are losing. Thank you Paul. You wrote my breaking heart.

I've watched a few times now and makes me cry every time. From the far south coast where 80% of the forest has burnt.
It takes a songwriter of Paul Kelly's stature to try to sum up Australia's ecological predicament with such emotion. Bravo!
Fantastic Paul! Thanks for being our voice. I for one will not sleep!
Paul Kelly is Australia in song. The man is a living lyrical legend.
Thank you so much PK... the voice of Australia... all Australia 💜
A very heart wrenching song with a real message to act before its too late.
You have done some excellent songs and this one is sheer brilliance! Brought me to tears. My new favourite!

You are the voice within the soul of every Australian. Your words transcend ideology and politics and for that Sir, I truely thank you.
Uh-uh, not me. I don't /have/ a soul.
Wish it was within every Australian but sadly and demonstrably not...
Sadface.
Yes, yes, yes!
Nah mate. This is absolutely ideological and political. If those words have become polluted, it just means we have work to do.
Thank you PK, this is what people need to hear! ❤️
