    “I’ll introduce my family
    You’ll surely get along well”
“Don’t get me wrong I love you
But does that mean you have to meet my father?
When we’re older you’ll understand what I meant when I said no
I don’t think life is quite that simple”
    “No matter what the time
    We’ll always be together
    No matter what the time
    Because you’re by my side”
    “When you walk away
    You don’t hear me say
    Please, oh baby don’t go
Simple and clean is the way that you’re making me feel tonight
It’s hard to let it go”
It’s so amazing the fact that she wrote two completely different songs 🫂

      One's Thoughts
      Lost in Thoughts All Alone
      Swaying... and being swayed
      ...
One’s thoughts hang in the balance
Like ephemeral bubbles down the river stream
A hand will open up the path to tomorrow
You are the ocean grey waves...
      Destined to seek
life beyond the shore just out of reach...
      Yet, if waters ever chnage
flowing like time, the path is.. yours to climb.

@@tekkenfan01 Well, he's talking about the poetic artistry of the lyrics, not the musical elements. You are correct that it is subjective, yes, but he brings up an excellent analysis of how the two versions are meant to differ lyrically.
The lyrics to "Hikari" seem to better convey the beauty of a romantic relationship than the "Simple and Clean" lyrics. However, I believe "Simple and Clean" is handicapped in this regard so it can better represent the intentional juxtaposition Kairi and Sora's separation-after all "kairi" is the Japanese word for "separate." (Before you try to correct me, "kai" is the Japanese word "ocean" or "sea", and Kairi's name is a sort of pun.)
Both versions of the song address important, mutually exclusive themes throughout KH1 and the franchise while representing two unique perspectives on the start of Sora and Kairi's romantic relationship.

IMO, Hikari is much better than Simple & Clean for both vocal and arrangement. The Eng version is a bit too soft and lost some of the edge that made the original version shine. Also the Japanese version has better rhythm and the vocals are more layered and dynamic.

    • @Klffsj
      @Klffsj 4 года назад +8

Actually, I strongly disagree; it just takes some artistic analysis of both versions to get a better understanding.
"Inside of the sudden light I awaken in the middle of the night" parallels the concept of Kingdom Hearts being light within the innermost darkness. Similar lyrics are scattered throughout the song. "The light known as 'you'" refers to Kairi not only being a princess of light but also being a light for Sora throughout his adventures; this was important at the end of KH2 (returning to the Destiny Islands) and towards the end of KH3 (after Sora uses the Power of Waking to save the Guardians of Light and change time).
Throughout the song, the lyrics for the chorus (it changes a little each time) talk a lot about [Sora and Kairi] being together, which is the concept of the paopu fruit: As stated in KH1, "If two people share one... They'll remain a part of each other's lives no matter what." This overarching theme of togetherness in "Hikari" is juxtaposed to the overarching theme of "Simple and Clean," which focuses on "walking away." That concept is based around Kairi's name meaning "separation" or "severance" in Japanese, (Technically, "kai" is the Japanese word for "sea" or "ocean," so her name basically has two meanings.) and it corresponds to how Sora and Kairi always seem to be away from each other.
I'm sure there's more in there that I'm missing, and I'm not touching on "Simple and Clean" directly, either; but, I think there's a lot of artistry in these songs that are very subtle... just like Nomura.
