it's such a simple thing, but it can really help when you feel like you are getting pulled in various directions rather than following your heart! My hubby reminds me of this all the time, grateful for that!
Richie is absolutely spot on! Create for YOU 1st! I am adoring all you do! I have been in a stuck mode here in our winter weather but you have given me inspiration to grab the cold and apply it to my art which will be beneficial to my early spring exhibits. Saying goodbye to winter in a series… wonderful! Happy New Year!
Hi Laura, your videos are so enjoyable to watch. It is really fun to see your new studio space evolve as you settle in and it's so generous of you to share what you're learning as you go. It's also great fun to see your garden evolve with the seasons! All the Spring growth looks delightful! Your art is really, really beautiful. What you have learned lately about the fine liners and use of a brayer is really cool and such an interesting layer to your mixed media botanical/abstract pieces. Thank you for making and sharing this content!!
Oh my, your studio garden is just lovely! I think you would love having the companty of "studio chickens" - and I wouldn't weed that area. It won't take them any time at all to scratch up all those weeds and get rid of them for you! Your studio is so lovely, too. What a beautiful place to work. And even the indoor plants look like they are thriving! Looks like you got the a/c unit in just in time. I, too, recently bought some of those tiny bottles with needle tops, and now that I've seen you using them I am excited to get going with them. Using the brayer to add to the variety of marks you can make with them is a great idea! I do think Richie is right - do what brings you joy! Whatever art you are doing here on RUclips, I'm sure we'll love it!
I really enjoy watching your videos, especially those of you working in your art cottage. I was so surprised to see so many cottage garden style plants growing in the garden; it really is beautiful.
How wonderful to have the space to be able to treat wall paintings like sketchbook pages. And big trays of pencils and paint trolleys. I am so happy for you. The garden space is incredibly inspiring. Thankyou for sharing.
Laura I could listen and watch you all day. Your work is so beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for letting us walk through this special place with you. (I am 76 and live in beautiful Niagara, Ontario Canada.)
I am jealous of your lovely studio & the magnificent light you have! Congrats. Query: how do you prep your canvases for your collage pieces? What types if any medium do you use prior to applying your paints?
I could watch you paint for hours! Thank you for this moment with you in your beautiful studio. And I too like that scratchy sound of the needle tip ;)
Love the light and garden in your new studio space. You inspire me to try out the needle bottle I have with a braver. Love the marks you can make. As for the incomplete larger work…great colours and interesting marks. It’s quite busy so recommend you keep layering and consider where you want the focal point to be.
Your garden is so full of lovelies! What a wonderful spot to take a break from your studio! It’s a treat to see what is happening in your part of the world and what you are creating…you’ve been busy and I thought it all beautiful.
I love your art and work ethic; i don’t really care where you do it. I would like more videos of you trying out new color combinations and new mixed media effects
I agree with Richie. Do what you want and brings you joy. Speaking of joy, that garden is incredible! So much beauty and inspiration - I don't know that I would want to leave. I love the idea of chickens but the reality may not work. My brother and SIL have chickens but they do require daily work and interaction. Plus, don't you guys have lots of icky spiders and snakes down under? Thanks for this video reminding me to include variety - definitely what I needed for some current works.
Got some needle nose applicators! Love them! I don’t have any fluid paints, but I’m working with acrylic inks and loving the results. I’ll certainly look forward to any more ideas, techniques, etc. that you use with this fun tool!
I'm going to pop in and say that I add water to a deep dish eg a plastic one I've kept from the grocery store that had chicken fillets in it, and put the brayers I use in there, leave them to soak a few hours and using your fingers the acrylic comes off / peels off. Hope this helps :) (A tip I learnt for storing a brayer is store it upside down so you don't get marks on the rubber part. This is a good tip for soaking as well.)
Chickens are pretty low maintenance. I love having them. And the eggs....can’t compare to factory/store bought. I say do it! 😬 And no need to weed that area. That’s what chickens live to do. You probably couldn’t keep a weed alive in there if you tried. 😂 It’s good you’re giving chicken ownership a serious think tho. It’s not for everyone I know. But I’m selfishly hoping to see some happy chickens 🐓 on your channel one day. 😉 Gardens, chickens, and art make for a fab channel. 💚🐓🌿🌸
The problem is, chickens scratch so they can completely wreck a yard, as we found out with our neighbours having chickens. In drought, especially like I'm experiencing in my spot in Australia at the moment, that's not something you want.
thank you for the wonderful explanation of your thought process as you work. Love your art!
Love that Laura…Make what I love to make.. I keep reminding myself that too 🩶

I really love the set of botanical paintings in the corner between the windows. What a nice studio and gardens.

I so enjoy your work and the time and care you take to share things like your studio space and garden.
Thank you so much! I can't help but want to share all the little things!!
What Beautiful gardens!! Like paradise! Happy painting 👏👏💕💕
Wow what a wonderful place. I do think you are blessed.
Beautiful video! And great advice from your husband 😂❤ I’m still trying to figure RUclips out too & I think you’re both right. Thank you for sharing ❤
Your studio is beautiful and I love watching your videos!

Love your suggestion to use a brayer over top the fine lines. Your space is just beautiful.
I love being outside in my garden too 🤗🩷 I also love working on my art journal outside.
It's so calming and energizing at the same time!

Thank you, what a lovely comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. I would love to visit where you live one day 🤞

Thank you for the tour of your studio. I ,ove the use of the brayer. The last painting you worked on using your black pencil was great.
Thank you! Plenty of experimenting going on in there atm 🎨✨🌿

Enjoyed my time watching the vid. Thank you Laura. Also, enjoyed the music. Who is the artist please?
Hi, it’s kind of feeling like ‘spring time in northern Florida also. The difference has been the most hot and awful hot summer preceding.
Wonderful video! I enjoyed every minute. Can you share what surface you are using to tape down your watercolor paper?
Got some needle nose applicators! Love them! I don’t have any fluid paints, but I’m working with acrylic inks and loving the results. I’ll certainly look forward to any more ideas, techniques, etc. that you use with this fun tool!
They are so fun! I’ll share more as I use them more. Love when a tool surprises you in a good way ✨ I wasn’t expecting to love them!
Chickens can mean rats and mice and snakes...some factors to consider!!! Lovely garden. What a "gift" from the previous owners.
Beautiful video, thank you. Quick question: how do you keep the needle tip applicator from drying out and clogging, between uses?
Loved the video. Bought the needle tipped bottles. Keep trying to find what you said about cleaning the tips with no luck.
Beautiful space Laura. If you’re not already familiar with him, have a look at Robert Kushner’s work. I see similarities (-: Marion 🎉
Hi Laura, can you tell me how you clean your brayer? I tried Murphy's Oil but it made it so sticky.
I'm going to pop in and say that I add water to a deep dish eg a plastic one I've kept from the grocery store that had chicken fillets in it, and put the brayers I use in there, leave them to soak a few hours and using your fingers the acrylic comes off / peels off. @@riteasrain thank you so much. Will try that. 😊
You’re using a roller, which I think you are calling a Brayer - can you tell me what’s attached to that roller to get the thick and thin lines?
The brayers have a rubber roller on it that pick up and spread the ink in that way! Speedball Soft Brayer: geni.us/sjg0
Your home is so beautiful 🤗🩷🩷
Thank you so much 😊
9:08- i moved my inks for this reason. Drying out in the sun.
10:29- reasons why we sometimes may get stuck/ paralyze.
It's an ongoing challenge in my lovely light-filled, but very sunny studio!!
@@LauraHornArtlove your studio spaces, interesting and fun to have different areas to paint be creative and the lighting throughout the day
@@LauraHornArtyes here it's challenging aswell. We are having bathroom re- done so lots of parcels this week.
@@MJWINNER_Sketchbook999 I hope the renos go well! Exciting time ☺

who is the artist singing on this video?
I also would like to know... can't track on the net
I’ve been trying to find that song… please tell!
Hi again. I heard they chickens attract rats at least in Florida.
