I just got the Eastman MD314 oval hole ...I LOVE IT!!!!! I can hardly put it down! I still love my A style F hole, but this oval hole reverb is fantastic!!
Definitely on our to-do list! In the meantime, we actually have played the MD300 Series in our most recent review of their new versions: ruclips.net/video/UDQhk7Vatgc/видео.html These models are the same as the original ones, but with a Pickup & new finish!
I have an Eastman 604 that is 16 years old now. Sounded decent when new, with those Eastmany high/bright overtones on the e string especially, which I don't love, but sounds incredible now, just a wonderful instrument. They age and mellow just like a great instrument should. As a side note, the type of pick used changes the sound quite a bit. I use a "Redbear" ? and it has a nice bright clack to it. If I switch to a "Dawg" it is more mellow, and I have a black, I think horn, one that is real nice sounding too. Anyway, these mandolins sound pretty good now - but are going to mellow a little, and sound way better down the road! By the way, thanks for that great guitar you sent me yesterday! Eastman E20SS/v-sb. I got to play it for about an hour and then my brother came over (great artist/guitar player) and left with it, and another guitar (Simon and Patrick Pro rosewood) - he picked them from about 6 guitars I put out, to choose from - and I think both of them may be staying at his place from now on. If that is the case, is that 00 still there? Heh heh - I'm gona be one poor sucker!
I like both of them. I don't know which one to get. I want an oval hole and was thinking of getting the cheaper mandolin to travel around with. I play a lot of solo chord-melody tunes. To me they both sound about the same. What do you guys think?
You failed in really explaining what styles of music each suits, or how you would incorporate them. Eg. Is O hole better suited as an accompaniment instrument just playing chords?
Would be better if the demo at the end was more the same stuff played on each instrument. I don’t feel like I heard as much of the low end melodic style demonstrated on the F style.
Excellent video , well spoken.great playing
LOVED this video. Thanks for bringing this quality information to the public, deserves more likes for sure
Thanks for the kind words!

Ive listened to this loads of times - would love to see a video comparing the sound of the MD304 and MD305.
