Re-uploading because I had a tune name wrong, can't have that 😄
Nice, thanks for that video Baron. It's very important for me to know these tunes. They are popular and welcoming to new people at sessions. Then, the sessions allow you to discover many tunes. Or other versions (you're so right in the video) of tunes you already know.
My local session has a lot more in D major/mixolydian: The Dublin Reel, Banish Misfortune, Toss the Feathers, Maid Behind the Bar, Rolling in the Ryegrass, Silver Spear. Glass of Beer also comes up a lot - I have trouble with all the triplets that are almost mandatory in that tune.
Just started learning on tenor banjo , your tabs are very helpful. Would love to hear more of your banjo playing, have you ever played Rocky road to Dublin , do you sing aswell?
Thanks!
Great, great picks! The butterfly, road to lisdoonvarna, swallowtail. Would love to see a video on "the pearl" by you! I know of it by Scottish group Silly Wizard, but it may be traditional.
Nice mandolin!
Super super super lovely playing
Augustine violinist from Malaysia
Out on the Ocean, connachtman’s ramble, My Darlin Asleep😊
Nice axe. I’m just learning mando but I’m already thinking of what to get when I progress far enough to justify the purchase of a good one. want an A-style made in the US, but the jury is out on round vs. f-hole. Irish jigs played well push me to the round hole.
Would love to hear you play Maggie’s Pancakes on this Ellis, but I suppose that’s Scottish.
Harvest Home
Irish Washerwoman
Peg Ryan's
Jimmy Allan
Ashokan Farewell
All common in North East England.
I'm getting a Mandolin this Friday. I gotta learn it for an upcoming irish wedding. Do you recommend a type of mandolin?
Glasgow Reel is where it's at - but I guess that's Scottish?
Also called Tam Lin after a character from a folk tale . How about the Chicago reel
Denis Murphy The Crossroads,(Humours of Trim) The Road to Lisdoonvarna The Crested Hen The Palms of Kerry
Crest3d Hens is French but also gorgeous
Swallow Tail jig
Thanks for showboating what does it teach me?
His version of the most common Irish sessions tunes.
What a salty ass comment haha
I like learning Irish session tunes. I don't need him to say 'first finger second fret on the D string' Listen and play it for yourself.
Someones got their mandolin strings in a twist.
