  • Authentic Lamb Shatkora Curry is staple dish in all Bangladeshi households. I remember looking forward to Shatkora (bitter citrus) season back in the days to enjoy our family authentic lamb shatkora curry. Things have moved on a lot and we can get shatkora also spelt satkora, all year round now, thanks to someone thinking outside the box and now you can buy these frozen from most Bangalashi grocery shops. Next time you visit your local asian shop, please have a look at he freezer section or ask someone in there to point it out to you.
    Traditionally Shatkora is used with red meat, Lamb, mutton, Beef but you can also have it with chicken. It gives a slight tangy flavour however when its balanced with the correct spices it is truly a magnificent curry. Words can't to do justice to this curry you NEED to give this a go, just follow steps and ingredients and you will understand why its a staple dish in Bengali home.
    If you have any curry left over or even save some for the following day, the flavours are much much stronger in a good way. tranditionaly we enjoy lamb satkora curry wiht plain boiled rice, so we can enjoy the true flavours of shatkora and spices.
    I truly hope this becomes a staple dish in your home.

    Great looking dish. Are the timings the same for different meats for example chicken?

    • @TheBengaliCook
      @TheBengaliCook  2 года назад +1

      Thanks a lot and great question, yes timing will be different if you used chicken, as an example once the chicken is cooked or 80% cooked added spices, cook the spices well (6-8mins, just like the video), add Shatkora, and hot water and let it cook until you are happy with consistency of sauce. Hope this helps, generally chicken curry should take about an hour. Thanks again 😀 oh also if you use chicken, cook onions first, get them really caramelised and soft then add chicken.

    I can't wait to try this recipe! Sadly from where I am, we don't have the exact fruit. What can I use as a substitution? What about lemon or lime? Thanks in advance

    • @TheBengaliCook
      @TheBengaliCook  2 года назад +1

      That’s that great to hear, thank you. The fruit gives a slight sour bitter flavour so any other fruit that has similar flavours should be ok, might have to experiment with it. Lemon/lime sounds like a good idea, so let know how it turns out. Thanks again 😀💯

      Hey Tony, thank you so much bud. I used mix cut of lamb on this recipe, otherwise I would go for lamb shoulder or leg cut with bones mate. Hope This helps 🤤

    Hi can you tell me where to buy or what’s in the curry mix spice please?

    • @TheBengaliCook
      @TheBengaliCook  Год назад +1

      Hi I’ve got the ingredients listed in the description box along with measurements, you can find most of the ingredients in supermarkets these days. Shatkora you will find in Asian grocery shops, mainly frozen unless it’s in season. Hope this helps and enjoy 🙌🙌

      @@TheBengaliCook you haven't explained what's in the mix curry powder, it just says 1.5tbsp. So are we to just buy a generic curry powder, like Madras curry powder, or something else, please?
