    Just had this done 3 weeks ago. I’m 36 I shattered my calcaneus in a car accident June 2022. After first surgery. I had so much arthritis it was basically bone on bone when I walked. So my doctor did a subtalar fusion. I’m hoping to be somewhat normal again and pain free! I’ll keep you guys updated once I’m walking again

      Yes please post an update. I had the same thing happen to me last November. Now I'm getting the plate and screws removed. I have a lot of nerve damage too. I was just told today the next thing I will need is a subtalar fusion from all the arthritis I have

    I had a Subtalar joint fusion in May 2022. It was the best surgery I’ve had to fix my joint because I had broken it back in 2015.

    I also had subtalar fused. (54yo female) Mine was injury at work breaking my heel. Comminuted fracture causing need for large allograft as well. Drastic swelling continued 5 weeks and then surgery was possible in 7th week. This by FAR is the MOST painful experience of my life !

      How's your recovery going? I broke both calcaneus from a fall in July, had both heels fused to the talus and still have extreme pain when bearing weight, every step I take is very painful even 4 months post surgery. Walking on uneven surfaces is very difficult as well... are you further along? Does it get better?

    • @outdoorfunblonde
      @outdoorfunblonde 11 месяцев назад +1

      I am struggling thru physical therapy. I'm not in much pain, and my foot is feeling much more normal. My surgery in July as well. Just last week went cold turkey from walking boots & crutches. You had a double doozie. I couldn't imagine.
      Something I wasn't prepared for was WHY our bodies need PT after prolonged immobilization and NON weightbearing.
      It's a whole 'nother issue !
      Most of my pain is back & knee as I learn to adjust my balance again.
      You never realize how weight compensation affects the body. Challenging.

    Hi, Im 20 years old and Im from West Yorkshire, UK. I've had this surgery done on both of my feet because when I was 17, I stepped off a 35ft bridge (mental health related) and fractured both of my heel bones as my heels took all the impact of the fall. I also fractured my L3, 4 and 5 in my spine, my sacrum and damaged my lungs extremely badly with the impact. The surgeon said he had to do the fusions initially because if he didnt, there would be horrific pain. So speaking from experience, the fusions do impact a lot of your walking especially on uneven ground. I feel that stiffness a lot of the time so I dont know how Tiger is going to return properly to professional golf with the fusions as there will be stances where inversion/eversion is needed. I know whenever I walk over a dint in the pavement, my feet feels extremely rigid/immobile so I do feel for Tiger Woods quite a bit. But thank you for the video anyway!! :)

      I’m also from West Yorkshire, had my procedures done at Calderdale hospital by a youngish surgeon ( Mr Sturdee ). Both feet failed to fuse. So had bone marrow taken from my hips to pack into the joint. Eventually we got there. Not before finding out whilst walking out of the boots. One of the screws had gone through and was grinding my ankle when taking strides. . Easy fix though. Had both heels fused from a fall. Also mental health related. Sometimes I wish I hadn’t had the procedure but I think that’s because I’ve misplaced how horrifically painful it was. I’m struggling to get out and about as navigating even the smallest stones are super difficult to manage. Uneven ground is next to impossible. Without my knees do things I don’t think they were designed to do. I also broke and dislocated my ankle a few years ago. Had it pinned and metal work added. Which adds to the difficulty walking. Possible ankle fusion down the line Hope you have got help and are managing your mental health. All the best

      @paulbennet121 Hi Paul, sorry it took so long for me to reply. I'm not doing the best mentally just because I find it really hard to process stepping off the bridge (it's down the street from where I live) and the injuries. I'm currently recovering from my second operation which was on 20th October 2023 at Chapel Allerton Hospital in Leeds. When it first happened in 2020, I was in Huddersfield but they just skipped the HRI and went straight to Leeds General Infirmary because the damage was so bad with my heels. I think I get frustrated because I was studying at Huddersfield New College at the time and the pressure to stay in college compelled me to step off the bridge. I just found the college course I was doing at the time really stressful but everyone was saying I had to stay in so I don't know what the answer is really. Hope your injuries are healing up and hope your mental health is ok too. (I know where Calderdale is as well - Halifax, Rastrick, Brighouse, Elland, so I'm familiar with where Calderdale hospital is).

      @Isabella-sg3em I can walk pretty long distances however I'm currently recovering from my second operation which is a medializing calcaneal osteotomy, PIPJ fusions and debridement of the lateral wall of the calcaneum. Its to sort out hindfoot valgus and lateral hindfoot impingements as well as clawed toes. But in terms of walking before the operation, I would say I could walk quite a long distance, just very difficult on uneven ground with the subtalar fusions. Hope this helps and good luck for February! :)

    Very well done video. My question would be what do you view his long term capability to walk 4 straight days, the limp: will it remain? Can he return to somewhat normal walking and longevity or is he beyond the hill of getting back to where he was pre accident. Cheers!

    • @apaulmcdonough2170
      @apaulmcdonough2170 Год назад

      TW's limp is here to stay. First his prior Ankle Fusion and now the Subtalar Joint Fusion. Also he lost a large amount of Muscle Tissue in the posterior of his Right Lower Leg.
      He didn't have any Dorsiflexion or Plantar Flexion prior to the SJ Fusion.
      Any Foot flexion was an Illusion created by Hip and Knee Flexion and Extension.

    • @shannonjaunsen1719
      @shannonjaunsen1719 15 дней назад

      I've done it for a funeral but only to walk inside. Took them off once seated and left without them on. You can do it briefly I recommend practicing beforehand bc it will not be the same as before at all
      It's doable with limits but I can honestly say it's not worth the discomfort. Best of luck!
