    Still considered one of the best instrumentals of all time and the best argument that Lifeson is underrated as a guitarist.

    • @majones501
      @majones501 25 дней назад +4

      I’ve been a huge fan of Rush since I first became aware of them in 1976 and over the years I’ve talked with a lot of people about Alex Lifeson being such an incredible guitarist. I do not think he is underrated at all. I think there is just a lot of people who don’t like Geddy Lee’s voice (which I really just can’t understand). All three of them, with their incredible talents, each fills such huge space in the group that if someone doesn’t like the voice, it overrides everything else and they just don’t listen to the group. So rather than being underrated, I think the problem is that many people don’t have the opportunity to experience Lifeson’s talent.
      Whenever I have the chance, I play this song or YYZ for my friends who don’t like Rush because of the voice. As for me, I love everything about them. At least up through Moving Pictures.

      @@majones501 There are different kinds of underrated. There is being unknown and then there is always being ranked lower than Slash, jack White and the Edge on top lists kinda underrated.

    • @majones501
      @majones501 23 дня назад +1

      I don’t pay any attention to lists. There really are so many great guitarists in the rock world, and there’s so much personal taste, subjectivity, preconceived judgement, and even just exposure. The thing I give more weight to is the opinions of other great guitarists, and they don’t underrate Lifeson.

      I'd not picked up my guitar and played La Villa in near ten years, 🤫hope my wife still loves me.
      Life of a musician, I was a twelve year old in 1975 playing in a band full of older musicians, mostly weddings - I could play Autumn Leaves, Misty and such. I jammed my finger playing basketball and we had a gig at the Bloomsburg fair three days later... My Dad said "a commitment is a commitment, you made your bed you lay in it. Just do your best."
      It turned out Les Paul was the headliner and got to play along side of him... is a long story but It was hot out - I was drinking too much teem soda, was elated being called up on stage, in pain and had to pee so darn bad.

      I certainly hope so! 😂 I would say keep an eye on a fast growing group of 3 sisters from Mexico called The Warning, though. They aren't as technical as Rush, but I give them 5 years and they may be nearly as powerful as Rush. I've referred to them as Rush 2.0 in many comments, as it feels like they followed the Rush handbook. I miss Rush, but after 30 years of substandard rock from other artists, The Warning gives me hope.

    I'd been to thirty-two Rush concerts in my life, first in 1977. A lot of people forget Alex also played moog pedals. Is the life of a musician though, you get hand injures - usually outside of playing - but the gig goes on.
    Rush had always been a great band because they were what I'd call a "working band". They toured so much early on they could only get ever tighter and better. They had plenty of talent but it's the feeding off each other who are so good which pushes each other along to get even better.

    Saw this tour with Pat “Boom Boom Out Go The Lights” Travers opening. One of many shows I was fortunate to see and (mostly) remember. Like great wine, every harvest of Rush is my favorite vintage.
    The only thing that would have improved this video would have been a camera isolation on Neil doing his thing with hair flying and the classic stache twirling stylishly as his sticks.

    That wasn't Jack Black who said that about Geddy Lee and his nose (although he was in the documentary), it was the bass player for Rage Against The Machine.

    I first heard Rush in a Spencer’s store at the mall in the 70s. So different at the time. Only us ‘rockers’ liked it but it blew us away.

    I feel lucky I got to see them live and the very next night I saw Van Halen both at the Aladdin...what a time that was!

    Then there was the night in Seattle in 1989 when Pete Townshend punctured his hand with the whammy bar on his guitar while doing the infamous Townshend windmills. It went completely through his hand. He missed the encore of the show that night. His doctors said he got lucky and no tendons or arteries were hit. He was back onstage for the next show of the '89 tour. Also, in the infamous and amazing live performance of Won't Get Fooled Again at Shepperton Studios, at one point after doing a series of windmills, you can see Pete sucking on his finger after he lost a fingernail. He was more interested in completing the song than the pain he was experiencing.

    Just astonishing to finally have a camera crew who keep a single shot on the guitar solo!
