YYZ live in Rio. Trust me. Even for us lifelong RUSH fans, it’s mind blowing. The band was impressed big time! Those people had been literally waiting their entire lives to see them because they never toured there before. Strong crowd reaction!
I'm a fan of hearing the studio version of all Rush songs first for the fidelity and audio quality and then going back and watching them live to see how incredible they are at reproducing the studio sound on stage. They are amazing live! So, YYZ in Rio is a MUST watch but I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND the studio version first.
No need to signal, Geddy and Alex have been playing together since grade school, Neil came later and added his pure genius to the song writing, impeccable drum skills which were unmatched to this day and the rest is history. They are the real thing. Bands that can sync up like this are a true rarity. WELCOME the RUSH ARMY my friend, ENJOY!
you are so right when we played a new song all of us were nervous we would stuff it ... but after some back to back focus and we nailed it after 3 or 4
tightest band in history. they always said, if one of them is solo-ing, they're all solo-ing (all at the same time). There is always loads going on but they never do too much - always restrained and understated whilst being incredibly technical .
He's gonna need therapy after he finally works his way up to 2 1 1 2. Hopefully the studio version with lyrics but no cartoon to go with it. The video distracts from the music.
Love when you play the bass!....maybe do a music sheet read of the bass to Geddy's riffs? There is a you tuber out of New Zealand ( Andy Rooneys drums )...he does that with Neil's drumming, it's pretty cool! From west coast Canada 🇨🇦, peace.
This in my book is the best instrumental rock song of all time. Geddy Lee is a beast. Live, he plays the bass, sings and play the keys while having a foot on the Moog bass pedals.
This piece is about the nightmares Alex would have - and it a complex work in 12 acts. I. Buenas Noches, Mein Froinds! II. To sleep, perchance to dream… III. Strangiato Theme IV. A Lerxst in Wonderland V. Monsters! VI. Danforth and Pape VII. The Waltz of the Shreves VIII. Never turn your back on a Monster! IX. Monsters! (Reprise) X. Strangiato Theme (Reprise) XI. A Farewell to Thing Each segment is part of a different dream or nightmare - Lerxst is Alex's nickname - Pratt was Neil and Dirk is Geddy. You may see references to Lerxt, Pratt and Dirk at times - it is just what the guys called themselves in the band.
Geddy actually recently published a book about bass guitar, because apparently he has become one of the foremost experts on rare basses and the history and evolution of the bass guitar. He decided to channel his compulsion to collect rare basses into writing a book about them for bass nerds! Geddy is one of the greatest in rock, other top contentenders: Chris Squire from YES, Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Paul Jones from Led Zep.. This song is completely arranged, the only improvisation going on is Alex's main solo. The title means 'Strange House' and the piece was inspired by a series of nightmares that Alex had. Each section has a brief title that characterises the dream segment. The abrupt end makes me think of waking up suddenly, as it usually happens when waking from a nightmare, Lol!!
For some incredible Geddy solos check out Leave That Thing Alone from the Time Machine Tour & Malignant Narcissism from Snakes and Arrow Tour. As a fellow bass player I recommend checking out Geddy's Big Beautiful Book of Bass. It's an awesome compendium of vintage basses, with gorgeous photos, interviews with legendary bass players and lots of cool info on all types of models/styles.
These guys never have to look to each other for timing. They have these songs so down that it's just purely automatic. Every song, every time. It's incredible.
Anyone who tells you they don't read music is deluded. They are virtuosos, and extremely well trained. They completely understand their compositions, nothing is "accidental".
Great reaction Church Man!! They wrote and released album “Hemishperes” in 1978. They were in their mid 20’s! This album nearly broke them! They were so musically ambitious that they have said they actually wrote music beyond their capabilities! They usually recorded live off the floor in 4 or 5 takes (rehearsed during sound checks while touring)! They recorded their whole 2nd album in 10 days. They attempted to record this song off the floor and were determined to do in 1 take, after 10 days, they finally had to admit defeat and record it in 3 parts! It took them nearly 3 months to record this album with only 1 day off! They worked and practiced this song for months after that until they could go out and record this video LIVE (with no audience) in 1 take! (They refused to do any song that they could not perform live.. and this was 1978) Geddy says they just do it over and over and over again until it’s muscle memory! They connect so well, they just know how to keep it on the rails, but they worked super hard for it! After this album, (which only has 4 songs on it) they swore that they would never put themselves in such a stressful, position again! It was putting them in a bad place ! So the next album “Permannt Waves” has a very different vibe! Lovin the journey, man! I recommend your next one be “Leave That Thing Alone” live from the Time Machine Tour! That will fill your need for “slappin dat bass” and has a really cool drum solo as a bonus!! Be well and God bless.. from Texas!
In one of his interviews after Neil passed, Geddy called him a "fucking monster musician." In reality all three were fucking monster musicians! Geddy and Alex were best friends since, like 7th grade or so. Neil replaced the original drummer after one album with John Rutsey, so he was considered "the new guy.". There is no weak leg on this tripod.
IT'S ALL EYE CONTACT BUT CHECK OUT YYZ LIVE IN RIO BY RUSH.. ITS ABOUT A 4 MINUTE INSTRUMENTAL WITH BASS SOLO'S AND THE CROWD 90,000 PLUS PUTS ITS OWN LYRICS TO IT... A MUST SEE...GREAT REACTION , THANKS
Fun fact about La Villa... They struggled to record it for the album, so they did it in 3 parts and edited it together. Then to record this video, they refused to fake playing... So they played it... this is the first take.
I noted this point above. Geddy told the story on his book tour. They hadn't been able to complete this in one take prior to this in the studio. They didn't do anything special, but this time it just clicked and they knocked it out in their first take...
They stopped at take 42 to try and get it all. Hemispheres was a progressive rock peak, but it broke them mentally in a way that brought in the eventual departure from the longer pieces.
Hemispheres was an album were the guys wrote songs that were at or beyond the edge of their capabilities. The story about them struggling and then failing to record it in one take demonstrates this. However, they ended up playing it time and time again live with perfection. This shows that yeah they were awesome on Fly By Night, Caress, 2112, etc, but they were still growing as musicians by leaps and bounds.
Eddie Van Halen was once asked by an interviewer "what does it feel like to be the world's best guitarist?", his reply was "I wouldn't know, why don't you ask Alex Lifeson"; high praise.
I've heard the same quote attributed to Eric Clapton, except he said Prince. I wonder how this "quote" originated. Maybe the first version has Les Paul talking about Django Reinhardt (or Jimi Hendrix about Billy Gibbons).
@@conchrepublictheband Me too! Dallas Reunion Arena 81. I was 14 yrs old (who said little girls didn't like Rush!). My friend's brother stayed in line all night & got us 2nd row right in front of Alex. $10. It may have cost $12.50 (don't remember), but he only made me pay $10. Pat Travers sat in front of us. Such a great memory!
This is Rush magnus opus. The song and all 3 members are at their highest level. Alex goes from a weeping violin to firecrackers on the fret, Geddy banging bass keyboard and pedals, w Neil giving another lesson on the skins. Doesn't get any better than this - caviar and Rolex watch out! 🔥
They count. They know their music and they are time signature geniuses. Exit Stage Left (original live album. Not the remastered whatever pops up crud on youtube).
Any Rush fan can tell you... you experience whole different songs when you focus on just one thing. As a bass player, I would expect you to hear the bass first. But you really need to listen many times before the lyrics come into focus, especially as a musician, and the virtuosity always overpowers the words. Truthfully that is why we are lifetime fans... you can listen over and over and over always finding new and amazing things in every song. Discovering lyrics is just a step in falling down the Rush rabbit hole.
Great point about getting lost in any one aspect of their music. I get lost focusing on how Geddy Lee manipulates his voice and enunciates the words to match his bass and tell the story.
No lyrics, the music is the lyrics. The song is based on some crazy dream Alex had. Every movement in the song is reflecting a person going to sleep, dreaming, having a nightmare, and waking up. That's my interpretation of the song. The section called "Monsters" is the nightmare portion of the song but not a traditional nightmare (scary), think along the lines on Monsters Inc. The transition after the monster section is supposed to reflect a big band, love Neils drums in this section. Also Alex guitar solo sounds like the horn section in a big band. Alex first main solo at the beginning of the song reflects a person dreaming. Geddy is my favorite bass player. He has so many bass lines that are absolutely killer. One of my favorite lines is from Digital Man, just love the groove and melody. Two Geddy solos that that are fan favorites is Leave that Thing Alone from the Time Machine Tour and Malignant Narcissism from Snakes and Arrows tour. A must see is Working Man live in Cleveland, what is killer is when you see Alex and Geddy solo with Neil holding it down.
When you compose or learn a song, and if you have natural rhythm, you can feel and instinctively know where you are by what you are playing. I can play along with this without any trouble. It's all about knowing the layout etc.
You say you want some more bass; I say YYZ Live In Rio. It's based on the IATA code for Toronto's Pearson International Airport, and Geddy's opening bass riff is actually spelling it out in Morse Code. Cheers from Toronto! 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🔥 🔥 🔥
Excellent reaction, and I know you will love "Working man live in Cleveland" and "Freewill", great songs with a more prominent bass. I will also tell you that Geedy Lee changed his professional contract to a bass that I believe disappeared and "Steinberg" and then to the Fender Jazz Bass. Another point to highlight is that in the drumming community it was said "A drummer uses a metronome and The metronome uses Niel Peart". Again great reaction and follows Rush. Blessings
Two songs that are a must for you Working Man Live in Cleveland (Time Machine Tour) Headlong Flight - Opening is Bass riff you would completely dig. FYI they didn't use queues. They were all just that perfect
Fun fact - Rush struggled to record this track in the studio and finally decided to lay it down in two takes. When the time came to record this video they were really surprised that they were able to do it in only one go.
You have a 40yr discography to get through my friend… enjoy the journey!! These 3 guys were so in-sync, it’s just crazy… Check out spirit of radio an natural science… 2 songs that showcase their time signature changes, showcase Neil’s drumming, Geddy’s base playing an Alex’s ability to weave his guitar through it all like a seamstress an pull it all together… Incredible band ✌️
They each have their own unique cues to help each other out. They are known for being notoriously over rehearsed when it comes to the live show AND it’s like they have a special kind of relationship with each other and can basically telepathically communicate and react to the other person in a situation that might make other bands train wreck into stopping mid song and starting over, where they look at each other and keep going how they need to till the other one gets back in sync with them🤯I’ve seen it happen live when Alex broke a string heading into the solo of ‘Closer to the Heart’ and Geddy and Neil double backed a few seconds, together in unison, while Alex literally threw his guitar to one guy (stagehand) as his tech was running up with the replacement for him, and it was like maybe 3-5 seconds and if you blinked or looked down right then you would have missed it and never known it happened.👌👍🥇🇨🇦🎼🎸🥁🎤🎹
Great reaction! The expression on your face is the same one I had the first time I heard them in the early 70's. It says, "How the hell are they doing that?" Said like a leprechaun "Slappin' da bass, man." Rush has some fantastic songs with Bass solos. I won't list them because many have already done that. But even when Geddy is playing rhythm, he's playing a solo. That's half the fun of listening to them. You could be listening to any of their songs and Geddy is there in the background doing the most amazing things.
@@BatFang-s8yAlex first formed the band in 1968. I think they've been stable as a 3-piece containing Alex and Geddy since 1972, with Neil Peart replacing John Rutsy as drummer in 1974 after Rutsy tore up the lyrics for the first album the day they went in to record it!
Hey dude, you want to hear the best bass player?...you are looking at it. Try Digital Man, Big Money, Cygnus X-1, Book 2, Grand Designs, Where`s my thing?, and so many more, you`ll end up borrowing money to finally get you that beloved base guitar you dream of...
The pure synchronicity of Rush is what makes them special to me. So, a few things to know: This piece is based on Alex Lifeson deciding he wanted to express in music a period of his life when he was beset by very strange nighjtmares. Thus the title, "the strage village". This is also why he is featured much more prominently with his guitar than either of the other two. Geddy's bass takes no back seat, my man, it's pounding away throughout this number like John Bonham's kicks. But the song is Alex's story, so he gets the front. This band composes all of their music as if writing an orchestral symphony; no note is improvised, and the beat is so well rehearsed that it's locked in before you ever get to see it. For another example of this, check out YYZ, another instrumental with insane synchronicity.
Love the fact you are taking Rush to church, right after Rush takes you to church. And if the church found out that you were planning to steal from Rush to take Rush to church what would church think? 😂 Great reaction and keep up the Rush run.
These guys didn't mess around. They create what they feel. They knew the songs by rehearsing their creation. They knew the flow. It's like 3 into 1. When you are that tight, even a mistake sounds good.
It's nice interacting with you as well! I loved my Rickenbacker 4001 and wish I still had it (bad band break up- sold all my stuff☹️). Beside the tone, the best thing for me was the neck as I prefer a flatter neck. A BC Rich Mocking bird is nice bass as well. Wishing you and yours a long life, health and happiness.... and a Rickenbacker bass in the color of your choice😀
Hi Dude... These are Rush... Each part is composed and executed, and 'aligned' by an authentic Drum Machine named Neil Peart, the 'Professor'... They do not need to nod, they always trained each song for perfection... Welcome to Rush world...
Rush has been my favorite band since 1980. I am so enthused to see another gospel team member find this band! If you want to hear more of this bands 40 year career and the evolving styles they used, or the focus you mentioned in Geddy’s bass playing just listen to the comments. All Rush fans seem to be UBER fans, almost super fans. I will suggest three things to you: listen to 2112 next, listen to my favorite 3 recordings in a row- from the album Exit Stage Left Broons Bane, The Trees, and Jacob’s Ladder. Also, please note that Neil Peart is also the lyricist and that the this band is, in my humble opinion, among the greatest greatest collections of musicians ever put together. The Professor (drums) is arguably recognized as the GOAT for rock drummers while Geddy is also arguably the best (at least in the top 2 or3) bassists in rock. Sadly, most fans feel that while Alex Lifeson, the lead guitarist is among the top 3 to 5 guitarists of all time, critics don’t agree. Anyway enjoy your Rush journey!!! “Leave That Thing Alone” for crazy bass focus, and “the Garden” and so many more for incredible lyrics and stories.
Not only is Neil drummer's drummer, he's literally a human metronome. Their precision is basically a lot of rehearsal. Before a tour for instance, each musician would re-learn the music that was chosen for the show, Then after each musician did some homework, they'd rehearse for a several weeks until everything was solid, and each member was satisfied. Geddy would learn his bass parts until muscle memory, then work on the vocals with playing. Then team up for rehearsal. These guys worked very hard, right out of the gate, and that never stopped.
If you want to hear Geddy shine. Listen to the rest of the Moving Pictures album. You already started with Tom Sawyer, just go to the next song Red Barchetta and then the rest, and you will some incredible bass playing with that incredible Rick tone. What I really love is his playing over Alex's solos. It's so good!
Easily one of the best Rush reaction people I have seen this far...there's getting to be A lot of them though..lol...peace love prosperity to you and yours..
It's always a pleasure to see someone discover the genius of RUSH. It is my understanding that it took them three months in the studio just to lay down this one track for the album, and because it was so extremely complicated, it was rarely played live. Check out the studio LP. It is an epic masterpiece.
Luv your reactions to Rush. Best 3 man band ever 3 incredible musicians that create such amazing and complex pieces. Enjoy the ride. God Bless. Spirit of Radio is a great song
Hey my friend,I am glad you are enjoying the best live Canadian rock band ever!! Over 40 years of great music to enjoy! Check out Red Barchetta(live) Really enjoy your reaction to RUSH, I saw them once (Power Windows Tour) in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
The album this song is Taken from is called “Hemispheres” from 1978. This was the last Time they recorded an Album such as this Because (they admit) That they reached beyond their abilities, And painted themselves In a corner so to speak. They had to record the Song in 3 parts because They couldn’t do it all the Way through in one take Initially. They all vowed to Not do that again, and Completely changed the way they approached Songwriting after the fact.
I was fortunate to see RUSH 6 times live, from late 1974 & last time in 1981. I am glad to see so many live concerts from them later in their 40+ year career. With 19 studio albums in their catalog, enjoy the ride!!!
Okay Church Boy! So glad to see your reactions to RUSH! My wife an I have been to see them 5 times back in the day, they were so awesome at their crafts. I watched all 3 of your RUSH reaction videos and see you really dig on the instruments so here is a suggestion for you to react to. The first is YYZ (pronounced YY Zed) in RIO and has no lyrics except for the huge and awesome crowd singing the instrument music and can be found here - ruclips.net/video/sBCVsVKU4O4/видео.htmlsi=7VNOa2eUHGAZBepC . Also , I think you'll like Spirit of Radio. It has lyrics but it's a great jam and can be found here - ruclips.net/video/FFpZFnJ6ZT8/видео.htmlsi=4666PU4P9YkMPlbz . It would be great to see your reaction! You also mention their timing and sync capabilities a lot so, I know you've reacted to Tom Sawyer already but I think you should see this video for an idea of how they do it. This is Tom Sawyer in their studio during the winter and is a superb video and track - ruclips.net/video/XmLRFM_un1I/видео.htmlsi=3VzGqS8Ro7gfQFnL . Lastly, for another instrumental, you have to react to Neil Peart's drum solo in Frankfurt, it's over 8 minutes and is a concert on it's own. You'll be amazed! It can be found here - ruclips.net/video/LWRMOJQDiLU/видео.htmlsi=ArQJRDtQMAOEdLHH . I'm a musician too so to see your appreciation for the 'masters of their craft' work that RUSH did is awesome, I love your reactions! Keep up the good work!!!
This is the first song I ever learned on the bass. 1986, by ear, took me a whole year to get it the best I could. My childhood drummer buddy said learn bass so I can have someone to jam this song with. Also something cool hardly anyone knows. at 15:28 Neil does a backwards drum roll. amazing. Listen for it.
Been addicted to this band from the mid 70s , Neil the drummer writes the songs while arguably the best drummer , Getty world glass bass ... Alex world class guitar ....blows the mind all their sound comes from just 3
My favorite band of all time, I was lucky enough to see them live 13 times and every time it was such an incredible experience. It was like watching three virtuoso's performing in perfect synchronicity! Most shows where in Las Vegas, but I also got to see them a a couple of times in Phoenix, once in Grand Rapids Michigan and Once at the Red Rocks..a few years later while getting my first Rush Tattoo I had one of the heaviest mind blowing experiences of my life.
Probably not as a reaction but there's a movie about Rush that is excellent. Lots of top musicians talk about how Rush influenced them so much. YYZ in Rio is amazing. A must. Btw, YYZ is the airport code of Toronto.
bro! do yourself a favor. listen to their song "'The Big Money" its peak 80s, but Geddy Lee throws down some aggressive bass.. and the Professor has a magnificent rat tail. freaking magnificent.
YYZ live in Rio….. When most reactors see the size of the crowd and the energy, unity And sing to a wordless song, it blew the band away… a must watch!!!
In the early days of Rush, Geddy played strictly only a Rickenbacker 4001. He didn’t begin switching between that and the Jazz bass until Permeant Waves and Moving Pictures in 1980 to 1981. He would later play pretty much only the Jazz bass, but he did have a short period using a Steinberger and then Wal basses in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He has one of the largest bass collections in the world. He published a book called the Big Fat Book Of Bass that shows a lot of his collection in some of the most breathtaking pictures of bass guitars ever taken. He really hired a top tier photographer to take the pictures for the book.
This is a "concept song". And is about the nightmares of the guitarist, Alex Lifeson. Rush made their living writing concept songs and albums. Neil Peart, the drummer, wrote the songs like the chapters of the books he read. And he was an avid reader. They used change of pace to distinguish one chapter from the next. And to describe action. This song is divided into 12 chapters: I-- Buenos Nochas, Mein Froinds!, II-- To Sleep, Perchance To Dream, III-- Strangiato Theme, IV-- A Lerxst in Wonderland, V-- Monsters!, VI-- The Ghost of the Aragon, VII-- Danforth and Pape, VIII-- The Waltz of the Shreves, IX-- Never Turn Your Back on a Monster!, X-- Monsters! (Reprise), XI- Strangiato Theme (Reprise), XII-- A Farewell To Things. Greetings from New Brunswick, Canada. And welcome to the the rabbit hole that is RUSH. 3 Canadians from Ontario, Canada. If you want the full immersion, try their song, 2112, from the album of the same name. It's 20 minutes long. And has 7 Chapters. Enjoy your journey. I did subscribe.
Alex and Geddy have been friends almost their entire lives. Unlike today, when recordings are by one-time lineups of "X featuring X, X, and X", the lineup of Rush was unchanged from their second album through the last. (There was a different drummer for the 1st album.) in that span, they had ONE guest vocalist, and ONE guest musician. It wasn't until their final album when they finally recorded and toured with a string section. If you are wondering why they are so tight, it's because you are watching moments from 40 years as a band.
Damn, you’re starting at the top with some of their strongest songs! Good thing they have a deep catalog. 2112 is an important number in your future. The simplest way to describe them is special. RUSH was special. Live? Forget about it! Phenomenal live band! I was fortunate enough to see 18 different tours over the decades. RUSH night was always special and a different vibe from other Rock concerts. No dummies in a RUSH crowd. You definitely need the lyrics with these guys. Wait a second, this song doesn’t HAVE lyrics!! 😆
The story I've heard is they wrote his song in pieces, and were struggling to record it in one take, because it was complicated even for them, they arranged to film the song for a video (what you see here. No audience) and did this in ONE TAKE. As far as the timing and ques for each other, the saying that Rush fans have is: "Drummers use a metronome and a metronome uses Neal Peart"
YYZ live in Rio. Trust me.
Even for us lifelong RUSH fans, it’s mind blowing. The band was impressed big time! Those people had been literally waiting their entire lives to see them because they never toured there before.

Dude this. I love how the band is blown away by the audience reaction. So much positive energy.
Agreed!
Bunch of RUSH GEEKS! I will bully you! 🤣

Quote of the month " how is Neil Peart doing all that with that polyester on". He is the professor that's how.
There was no band like them. They were a completely unique thing. Instantly identifiable. Welcome. Enjoy the Rush ride.
Agree.
When other bands were partying, they were practicing. That's why they're so tight.
Other worldly!
They wrote it and played it so much, most of the time they dont have to look for timing. They are the real deal. Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse.
you are so right
when we played a new song all of us were nervous we would stuff it ... but after some back to back focus and we nailed it after 3 or 4

LOL...that's what I've often said to others. When you think you're listening to a guitar solo, you're actually listening to a guitar-bass-drum solo.
Greatness ♥️🎶🎶,👍
You're right...they're doing a lot and yet it's tasteful and purposeful.
You're now in the rabbit hole for sure.
He's gonna need therapy after he finally works his way up to 2 1 1 2.
Hopefully the studio version with lyrics but no cartoon to go with it. The video distracts from the music.
This could be a rabbit hole!!!
Ya Squash lmfao. Dude got himself into something hard to get out of.

This in my book is the best instrumental rock song of all time. Geddy Lee is a beast. Live, he plays the bass, sings and play the keys while having a foot on the Moog bass pedals.
When Peart died, the world lost a treasure. Not just the music world, but the whole world.
Broke my heart everyone has their inspiration he was mine my personal hero
The world is smaller without him
My favorite instrumental of all time
Over the past few Decades, when I'd be Down or Depressed, I Always Play this song, when I Need an Emotional / Spiritual BOOST!
É meu favorito também, porém eu tenho amado muito a The Camera Eye também!❤️
@@LourivalVieira1988 Love The Camera Eye as well

I've always thought the bass playing on "Roll The Bones" was a thing of beauty, too. Nice and funky, almost filthy.
Yes, gotta do it.
🙋🏿♀️ I recommended that also! 😁🥰🐰
Rush - Where s My Thing?/ Here It Is! (drum solo) - Live in Dallas
And the sequel "Leave that thing alone"
This was a rehearsal with no audience filmed during summer/fall 1978. It’s the apex of heavy prog in my opinion.
Check out the song YYZ LIVE in RIO.....all 3 get to showcase!
Aye, for a bass lover, that will surely impress.

Be well and God bless.. from Texas!
Rush were craftsmen in addition to musicians. They perfected their craft.
Leave that thing alone and a Working Man from Cleveland, you'll love the bass.
Yeah this is a really special recording. It’s just a crazy hard song to do and they nailed it.
Alex was also playing Taurus pedals at the beginning of this song. Always loved hearing this song live! First time was ‘81.
Me too in Dallas!
You picked the right video , it's the most faithful to the studio version.
This song is what separates RUSH from any other band in the world.
Watch Working Man Live in Cleveland , See how three guys in their 50s end a three hour show fire 🔥 fire 🔥 fire 🔥
I still believe the Exit Stage Left Version of this is the best.
Great choice you're in for a treat😆❤🇨🇦
This was Alex's song. I think Geddy wanted the audience to focus on Alex.
This was composed about a series of nightmares Alex had experienced.
Geddy the lead singer plays bass, synthesizer, foot pedals and 6 string on occasion.😊😮😊
He sometimes plays 12 string as well (Xanadu, for example).
Rush is a musicians band. I've seen them over 30 times and they sound exactly like the album. All in perfect timing.
That was a great reaction. They never signal each other. Each piece is composed that way.
Blessings
Geddy was a big rickenbacher player early on. I think because of Chris Squires influence
This is music perfection at the highest level. This is incredible
****Neil Peart...Drum Solo, Live in Frankfort. MUST SEE!
why
plz no
You need 'Leave That Thing Alone' live, on the Time Machine Tour.
Two songs that are a must for you
Working Man Live in Cleveland (Time Machine Tour)
Headlong Flight - Opening is Bass riff you would completely dig.
FYI they didn't use queues. They were all just that perfect
Fun fact - Rush struggled to record this track in the studio and finally decided to lay it down in two takes.
When the time came to record this video they were really surprised that they were able to do it in only one go.
YYZ Live in RIO is legendary and a beast. We are/were blessed to have them.
You will enjoy Rush Xanadu live in Montreal Canada 1981 Exit Stage Left. Enjoy.
They had all their music beyond memorized. It was subconscious muscle memory.🎶🔥✌️
You have a 40yr discography to get through my friend… enjoy the journey!!
These 3 guys were so in-sync, it’s just crazy…
Check out spirit of radio an natural science… 2 songs that showcase their time signature changes, showcase Neil’s drumming, Geddy’s base playing an Alex’s ability to weave his guitar through it all like a seamstress an pull it all together…
Incredible band ✌️
It says, "How the hell are they doing that?"
Said like a leprechaun "Slappin' da bass, man."
Rush has some fantastic songs with Bass solos. I won't list them because many have already done that. But even when Geddy is playing rhythm, he's playing a solo. That's half the fun of listening to them. You could be listening to any of their songs and Geddy is there in the background doing the most amazing things.
This band is so tight and have played together for almost 50 years.Great musicians and lots of practice. ❤
Over 50 isn't it? Since 1972?
@@BatFang-s8yAlex first formed the band in 1968. I think they've been stable as a 3-piece containing Alex and Geddy since 1972, with Neil Peart replacing John Rutsy as drummer in 1974 after Rutsy tore up the lyrics for the first album the day they went in to record it!
Next, watch YYZ live in Rio and watch 70,000 Brasilians sing along to an instrumental.
The best band of all times… my opinion
Not only does Geddy Lee play bass and all keyboards he is also the lead vocalist on all songs.
Neil, Geddy and Alex were kicked out of an orchestra for being too loud so, the three of them started their own 3 man orchestra.
The rest is history.
Your hoodie should have a guitar instead of a fish and it could still be Bass Pro Shops 😂
😂
Thanks so much! ❤ I hope you get your Rickenbacher one day! Love your reaction 😊
As far as making it back home, you can see often Geddy would walk over and lock eyes with Neil to sync the rhythm section.
Check out "Show Don't Tell" for an awesome bass solo
So many great bass lines played on a Rickenbacker. The sound of he 70s. I love Fender though.
yeah chris squire of yes !
Luv your reactions to Rush.
Best 3 man band ever 3 incredible musicians that create such amazing and complex pieces.
Enjoy the ride. God Bless.
Spirit of Radio is a great song
If you like bass then Leave That Thing Alone is the song for you, Geddy puts on a clinic especially the last solo. 😊
It's Rush...what's not to love?! Welcome to the Rush family.
The album this song is
Taken from is called
“Hemispheres” from 1978. This was the last
Time they recorded an
Album such as this
Because (they admit)
That they reached beyond their abilities,
And painted themselves
In a corner so to speak.
They had to record the
Song in 3 parts because
They couldn’t do it all the
Way through in one take
Initially. They all vowed to
Not do that again, and
Completely changed the way they approached
Songwriting after the fact.
Next reaction video from RUSH - YYZ in Rio Live
Blessed to have been part of a small fraction of humanity that withness them live - Hemishpheres thru Grace Under Pressure. RIP Neil
Rush are the favorite musicians of your favorite musicians.
Probably not as a reaction but there's a movie about Rush that is excellent. Lots of top musicians talk about how Rush influenced them so much.
YYZ in Rio is amazing. A must. Btw, YYZ is the airport code of Toronto.
In this video you get to see the secret 4th member of RUSH....Niel's moustache lmao!
😂 #PornoStache
Hey Buddy, THIS song, took More time to "Perfect", than the Entire song list on this Entire Album!!! BTW, GREAT Ear on the F - A chord progression!
Can't wait until he does Working Man an also a drum solo ( I like the one Niel did on the Letterman Show).
bro! do yourself a favor. listen to their song "'The Big Money" its peak 80s, but Geddy Lee throws down some aggressive bass.. and the Professor has a magnificent rat tail. freaking magnificent.
YYZ live in Rio….. When most reactors see the size of the crowd and the energy, unity And sing to a wordless song, it blew the band away… a must watch!!!
Kings of time signatures!!!! Seamless!!!
"How is Neil Peart doing all this with all that polyester one?" lolololol
'Headlong Flight' live. Trust me. You'll never regret it. And they were 60 when the song was written and performed.
What makes the F-to-A groove really sing is that it's in 7/8. It brings an off-kilter feel that elevates it.
IMO your take in Alex's style is spot on. He always kept you wanting more but it is always the perfect amount. It couldn't be any other way.
