- In this video I bring you along as I have a look at a customers 2010 low mileage Hyundai Accent that has a customer complaint of no intermittent wipers. Well this one was easy to diagnose and just as easy to repair.
-Enjoy!

Me getting off a nine hour shift working on Hyundais, to get home and watch a guy work on Hyundais, what is wrong with me…. Here’s a like
Same but I work on any and all brands. Wish i didn't sometimes but it pays the bills
At least now you know how to fire the parts cannon... You're welcome
You know what they say I like work so much I can watch it all day
@@calholli no such thing as a parts Canon in my field
Haha master hyundai tech here also, 10 hour day doing antitheft updates, now here I am too
Eric, you saved me $520 with this sort of plastic removal video. Got a new car. Wanted the electronic windshield mirror with automatic dimming at night. Dealer quoted $675. Bought the mirror new for $155. I had to snap-off the center ceiling-counsel plastic-cover. I would never ever have had nerve to do that without videos like this from you. It did snap apart (no screws). Undid the old mirror, one screw. Screwed in the new mirror. Plugged it into the wiring harness socket that was Right There under the cover. Snapped it all back together. Fifteen minutes start to finish, and I am a computer programmer with 0.25 hours of auto-mechanic experience. You have no idea how many people like me you have helped and how much money we have saved.
My dad had a Hyundai Accent he got from auction for £200. We did the clutch, the timing belt, and some fuel pipes. It was a pretty good car for around town. It also had a 1 star rating for crash tests. We called it the Hyundai Accident.
🤣
Hey man, it's a great car. Just don't ever wreck it 😂
Sounds like an Engrish translation for the "Accent".
"Hyundai Accident " how did you know what my parents called me? LolL
I think you mean Ass-a-dent
Congrats Eric...you found the only still intact Hyundai Accent steering column/ignition left in the continental United States
For now 😂
This has the older METAL design key switch. No immobilizer but difficult to start with tools.
The newer models built with the plastic design key switch can easily be defeated as we see with USB cables
Yup cuz most are busted by kids stealing them. 😏
In St Louis, 90% of cars stolen are the Hyundai’s with the easily defeatable ignition switches
About like every 1980s GM product. And every 1990s Honda.
Eric needs an easy one every now and then.
Another great video from SMA thank you Eric for my evening entertainment. Who needs all the junk tv shows when you have the best from SMA...
Glad you enjoyed it
I know your a busy guy. Really appreciate the amount of videos you've been turning out 👍
Yes!
Thanks 👍
Me too!
you're a
Thanks for showing the DIY-ers the tab you pushed and the way the cover went together.
No problem!
Hello Fellow New Yorker, all the videos are entertaining and well received. Long or short, technical or simplistic…. Enjoy them all.
Stay safe, Bill
Nice to see an easy job. And no rust involved.
Glad to know the rear squirter works too. Didn't know they came with a bidet!
Another quality job done by Dr.O another satisfied customer…
Always nice to start off the day with a quick, easy and successful repair to set the tone for the day. 🤩
I'm glad that it's an easy part to change out. I have had to change out the wiper control on my daughter's '02 Hyundai Elantra twice in four years. When my daughter moved out of state, she decided that she did not want the car anymore. So, daddy decided to take it. New tires and a few minor repairs later, that car runs like a top. It may be 21 years old but it makes a great around town car. Love the 36mpg it gets.
Yay! An easy one for Mr O for once! Good to see that you had a cake-walk job to start the day.
What a cushy life you have. All these easy jobs, easy to diagnose, easy to repair plus all the good food the missus cooks up each day. What a life. If it wasn't for the rust buckets, you would have a 9am to 3pm job Monday to Thursday - have to have 3 day weekends of course. Only thing that upsets you is when we, the viewers, don't comment. Well, I fixed that. Retired mechanic/machinist in Land Down Under (who does not have to work in the world of rust-ventilated vehicles).
Just wanted to say thanks for the uploads ....Saved me a parasitic draw ( Relay broken switch ) ....Dash cluster (Solder) And my 4x4 drive on the Old 05' (Canadian) Blazer ...cheers Hi to the misses !
Nice easy job. The plastics around the steering were nice and tight.. pain for you , but it probably won't rattle.
Also.. inside of that car seems really clean for being 13 years old. Someone takes good care of their car.
You’re a great mechanic I enjoy watching your videos. Just wanted to let you know that keep them coming.👍
Love the Homegrown song reference. Nice way to start a day, with an easy peasy one. All your videos are so helpful.
Glad you like them!
Hi Eric. A quick easy one to start the day. Leaves plenty of time for the rusted out nightmares that you usually fix
Thanks Eric, I appreciate your videos on removing the plastic trim pieces. It's such an annoyance to break the little tabs and have to JB Weld bits back together.
"if I can do it, you can do it."....and I did but not on a Hyundai, on my '06 Dodge Dakota. Stealership wanted $275 to replace that switch. I bought a factory switch and put it in. Took a torx driver, slotted and a phillips screwdriver and took less than 10 minutes to do.. Only cost me $79 for the part.
I like the shorter fixes sometimes this is great
May the rest of your day is as good as the morning was
Easiest job I've ever seen....you are the master of the art....
But! SMA is not on TikTok! Excellent job not breaking plastic bits on a 13 year old Hyundai! I was waiting for a T.D.= Technical Difficulties error on my screen with the cover! If it helped, I bet a lot of us were losing our $h!t watching. I would have broken all the plastic bits in the process! Thanks for letting us tag along!
Easy for you but you made someone happy
I think the last car I owned that had a ding dong door reminder was an 82 Datsun 210. Hyundai must be bringing back the oldies😅
Like the video, thanks for keeping me entertained while teaching me to repair stuff and things :)
Hey the easy ones are nice, too, Eric! Thanks as always!
Who would have thought that working on a Hyundai with this issue would be so easy sometimes you amaze me there Mr O .
DON'T YOU WISH EVERY JOB WAS THIS EASY ?? .
That was nice of the young lady that owns the car to put a new steering wheel cover on before dropping the car off.
Apparently made from old Laugh-In costumes
@@jamespfitz I picture the end of the show with people opening up the wall, popping out, and telling jokes!!
SMA .. Eric is the man
With the ol Gulf hat, Mr. O should have 6 pumps and be running from car to car in an old fashioned full service gas station that even sells maps!! With the Quart oils in cans that need spouts!! Don't forget the ding ding as cars ride over the magic alerter.
I think it was informative. Surprisingly simple. I changed one on my Volkswagen and recall it as a very miserable frustrating job! I like the engineering!
It's slightly more work, but not too bad. Yes it sucks that you need to take the steering wheel off, but other than that it's easy peasy. Takes about the same time tbh.
Need to do just a day at the shop video like you've done before I think us viewers love those.
I'm glad to see you using hand tools on steering column covers. I've had way too many cars where some dirtbag used an electric impact wrench and stripped out and broke all the mounting bosses, leaving the covers loose and floppy.
Over 20 years ago, I had to replace the fuel pump on my 91 Nissan Sentra. The best price for the pump was actually at the dealership but it was going to take 2 weeks to get it. I found it at NAPA for about $2 more with next day delivery. When I pulled the old pump out and compared it to the new one, the brand name and model number were the same. I told the service manager at the dealership about it and his response was that he wished he had known about that because they lost a fuel pump replacement job because they couldn't get the new pump soon enough. He said he was going to make a note for the parts department to check with NAPA when they had long wait times for parts in the future. I also got an ignition coil for that car from NAPA that had the Nissan logo on it and several relays for various cars that had factory logos under the NAPA stickers.
Thanks for taking the time to show us how the parts are disassembled properly. Cheers!
The first job of the day always sets the tone for the rest of the day, so these easy ones are a nice start to the day.
SMA right to the point !!!!!
Im a GM guy. Always have been. Ive owned 150 plus cars from my flipping car days.
But I will say Hyundai makes a fantastic product. We bought my wife's 02 Sonata from a kia dealer in 2019 with 77k original miles. Its at 120k now and has given us absolutely no issues. Had to put a new AC compressor but thats the only "major" thing, and that was in 2020. So an 18 year old compressor is bound to fail.
And now i have a car ive wanted since i was a teenager in the need for speed underground days. Mines an 06 Tiburon SE in Orange Crush. The SE was only available with a 6 speed manual and orange crush was an SE only color. It has 126k miles on it and it runs and drives flawless. I had to replace the ac compressor as well, my clutch wouldnt kick on. System had no leaks. Got a new compressor from oreilly, had it professionally evac and charged, new compresor leaked from the front seal immediately and wouldn't hold freon after two days. So warranty swapped it and paid for the evac and charge again, 150$ each time, and she's had ice cold ac for over a month with no leaks.
Moral is, Hyundai makes a fantastic vehicle. People can talk bad about the engine recall all they want...every manufacturer has big issues with their vehicles.
And, we live in ohio, rust belt, and my wifes car has been in Ohio all its life...and theres barely surface rust underneath. Mine has no rust either.
That brought back a few stalk PTSD jitters from fixing both my sons cars. One had a bad wiper stalk and the other a T/S stalk that wouldn’t cancel. T/S culprit was a broken .10c internal plastic tang that cost me $85 for a whole new unit. Covers can be a beach. 🏖 I’m sure many future Hyundai DIYers will thank you for years to come. 👍🏼
BRAVE man working on these Hyundas..
Nice fix! Parts may have arrived before the car on this one.
All of your videos are educational in one sense or another. Either you show us what to do or what not to do. Keep them coming!
Nice job on the replacement of just a switch...vs an older systems where you have to change the whole combination switch... Nice way to start the day, with this repair.
Short and sweet Eric O, nice to have easy jobs in between the hard ones.
Any of your videos are great!! I hope this easy-peasy made your day
Thanks for making a simple job look, well, simple! 🤣
It was short, simple, informative and one of your most enjoyable ones to watch IMHO.
This is why customers love the parts cannon: because when it works, it sure does save you money.
"not every diagnosis requires fancy tools. Tell that to Ivan. He would've scoped all of the wires and been like 700% sure it was the switch.
And then scraped the contacts of the micro switch inside to proclaim "no parts required!"
And billed the customer five hours of diagnostic and repair time.
Nice to start the day with a win. I just ordered a SMA t-shirt. They have a on-line store folks.
'We got a rear squirter.' Must have chosen the wrong taco truck to have lunch at....
Lucas Auto Electrical invented the intermittent wipers. However there was not an intermittent position!
They also invented the 3 position headlight switch, on off, and flicker!
Not correct. A professor from Wayne State University located in Detroit Michigan invented the first delayed wiper system. He tried to sell it to many automotive manufacturers and they all said that they were not interested. They stole his idea. He took them to court and won. They had to pay him a certain amount for each delayed wipers that was installed in vehicles.
Peace.
Lucas, Prince of Darkness. 😅
@@scottreed991- @annyer262 was being funny as Lucas in the UK had a less than brilliant reputation for reliability as many of us
oldies will remember.
@@VeryOldSaint Thanks for the explanation. I understand what he meant now.
Peace.
Stalk switch went on my wife's Exploder...I was pleasantly surprised to find out the replacement switch (entire stalk) was only $20! I mean, that's still $15 more than what FMC paid for it in the factory...and the part came from FCSD, which means they probably paid $5 for it too...but you gotta have that guaranteed profit a rolling! LOL. Easy Peasy replacement too!
I like the pretty pink flowers on the steering wheel cover.
I swear this guy could make a ‘watching paint dry’ video and make it interesting to watch and I’d love it 😂 great job!
Intermittent Intermittent Wipers? Sounds redundant to me! LOL!
Just got done doing the crank sensor, ignition switch, starter, wheel bearings and lower ball joints on an 06 Accent. Starter was not fun at all! The ignition kept the starter going with the engine running, so I think the excess heat had something to do with the bolts being grumpy!
Have a great day, Sir! o7
Just did this on a Crown Vic. Owner pulled everything apart, arms, linkage, wiper motor, even cut the connector off the harness chasing wipers that were stuck on high. All that was wrong was a bad multifunction switch 😂
I enjoyed that video even though it was short and straightforward and I really want that ladies steering wheel cover 👀
Eric, that was an interesting repair. Thank you.
Eric: "If you hold it just right... you gotta wiggle it just a little bit"... 🤣
You have a dirty mind. Welcome!
We have a 11-year-old 2013 Accent (purchased new $17K) and it's been a great car. Besides normal maintenance we've only had to replace the alternator.
This doesn't look like much but these are the kind of jobs that regular guys without a huge tool box can do themselves. They just don't know it until they see this video. I can see you extract a broken stud from a manifold 100 times and I'm never going to do it myself but this shows you how you can actually save money and stop driving yourself crazy because you can't afford to fix a stupid switch.
Thanks Eric made my day
easy one!!
Nice easy Diag. and fix. Eric you deserve it!
It's impressive that a 13-14 year old Hyundai is still kicking it in the PRNY.
Nice to have an intermittent wiper video now and then. 😮
Nice easy one to start out the day. Thanks
ohhhh... Hello
Sweet video seems easy
It helped me with my 1999 Hyundai Sonata. So THANK YOU.
Eric, Nice to get an eazy peazy one every now and then!
I enjoy watching you do your thing, keep the videos coming.
Rustless and pussless what could go wrong? Great way to start the day!
Two years ago i did the front bearings on my ‘02 s10 along with much of the front suspension. This week i took it off roading and river fording, and it did well, but on the way home, it developed a pretty loud hum. I think its one of the bearings - front right wheel was hot. So, i gotta go back in. Thanks to mr O i used lots of anti seize and grease when i put it together, and I know to use the timken bearings this time also. Probably will help the longevity if i dont forget the dust cover again and crush the o ring and pop the sealed bearing apart like i did last time haha.
Eric,
Great video and fix - thank you!
Wow crank windows (2010 is not _that_ old).
The column covers and wiper switch come out almost exactly the same on my 2006 Ford Focus. Who borrows from who?
And that wiper switch is not an inexpensive part.

You keep forgetting to say "criticisms" at the end. 😆
Kitteh came by to supervise apparently.
You should think about during another day in shop video. Just a thought keep up the good work Mr. O
Start with the clean job - your a very wise man Eric O ! Great video as always
Hey Mr O, now don’t be getting any grease type stains on that fancy wheel cover!
If only this was the fix for my 1991 Peugeot J5 lack intermittent wipers. Cheers for the video.
Thank you for the vacation from the Silverado rust.
I was so confident you made a typo in the title, but as usual my assumptions were wrong :)
Great job, I like it when they go easy.
Love the simple straight forward ones too!!!!!❤
I think it would be funny if you had put an " ? " After intermittent 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Hi, Mr. O., I think it was an interesting video. I always found that console disassembly was a lot easier than assembly after the fix. So it is nice to see how you do it. Thanks for sharing! Stay Healthy!
Love the funky steering wheel cover it’s yours really you’re just pretending it’s a customers car aren’t you 😂
I actually liked this video, easy peasy fun. 👍
The ignition design it's surely lacking, but dang, I sure love those 3-dial heater/AC controls. Simple perfection.
Wow, that was fast, iiiiiii like it !
Thanks for showing how to fix a Hyundai's wipe switch Now I know how to fix our two when the time comes.
Posted for 2 hours. 800k watches ….. good for you man! ❤
That’s actually the number of subscribers. Still good for the O family @ SMA.
It pays 4/10 of an hour.... but, but... you did it in less than 2/10....GOOD JOB...👍
What! No rust? Thanks Eric!
Lighting strike fix - a - rou - ski. Perfect!
Nice start to the day. Good job Eric.
