so have only flown Cessna 152 and 172, so while I like the Alpha and plan to purchase very soon I feel they got the ignition and switches on the wrong sides? Ignition i feel should be on the left and switches on the right lol. Just my thoughts
I know exactly what you are talking about. But, I've flown Pipers, Beachcraft, and others where the ignitions were elsewhere.
One thing I had a question about is why Honeycomb puts the ignition switch on the right side of the enclosure when the Cessnas that I’ve flown the ignition is on the left. I would say in the name of realism that it would benefit the student to have it on the left side. My instructor taught me to run the throttle full power leaving my hand on the throttle. My left hand is on the key switching from left-both-right-both then pull throttle to idle.
It is a balance of all the general aviation aircraft. There is no one side that will be perfect for all owners, renters, students, and operators.
What model Skyhawk are you flying that you start it with full throttle? That is not a method I ever taught nor required for any C172. Other aircraft, there were a few.
I’ve flown the 150, 152, 172 and 182. I guess I didn’t explain clearly. I was taught to taxi to the run up area, apply brakes and push the throttle to full leaving my right hand on the throttle in case of an emergency where I need to immediately return to idle. At full throttle and left hand on the key I do the mag check and then pull back to idle.
@@douglashornick4388 Understood. I might be a bit fuzzy, but i thought all the sub 200 hp Cessnas had a suggested power setting of 1700/1800 rpm for the mag check?

Do you find the general feel and flair of flying with the XPC yoke any different to the original Alpha yoke? Cos it's a 200$ + difference here for us in N.Z and Aus :/
There is a difference, but some people may never notice.
If you are someone that can notice the truly tiny inputs, it may be worth it. However, the casual simmer may never notice.
If I am training someone, I would want the XPC. But if i am only doing intros or casual simming, the regular alpha is all good and not worth the extra $200.

Your reviews are always very reasonable and contain reliable information. The spring-loaded start looks cool. However, Since I don't have an Xbox and have no plan to get one, it's just bells and whistles for paying $100 more expensive. So, aside from the spring-loaded switch and the number which is 400% more accurate resolution, were you able to feel 4 times better performance on this new product? Because specification numbers often don't connect directly to how you actually feel. If you could feel a significant difference, I'm going to have to increase my budget and wait for restocking. To answer your question I used both my Alpha and the XPC I have at home. They both have different "feels" to them. The XPC is more accurate but it is more noticeable in X-Plane 12 and not so much in MSFS. If your primary sim is MSFS, you would be happy with the regular Alpha, but I would recommend adjusting the sensitivity and input curves to suit your personal taste.
@@JoeNDBAVIATION Thank you for the answer! I'm currently waiting for the Xplane12 discount while enjoying MSFS. I didn't know a program could change the accuracy. I'll keep in mind when it's time to make a decision.
@@jw8553 I wouldn’t say you can change accuracy, but you can fine tune the “feel” of the sim to your perception of how the plane should feel. MSFS is frustrating at times, to me, due to how it senses input and the way it scales the input. When you get to X-Plane take a look and compare how the axis (pitch, roll, and yaw) are received by the sim. There is a difference and to me it is noticeable, and why I still recommend X-Pane for training uses.

I’m confused, fselite article on this states, “..this new yoke is still fundamentally the Alpha which you’re used to, but it will come with better Hall effect sensors up to 16096 resolution. It’s a lot more advanced than the original Alpha.”
So is that true or is it like you said, just a rebranded alpha XPC with identical specs and xbox buttons?
Rebranded xpc. I clarified with honeycomb and as of right now, that is correct.
Compared to the original alpha, yes.

That is a good question. Right now you can buy the XPC and it is the same product. I will reach out to Honeycomb and ask that question.
I sent an email to the company a week ago and have heard nada. Not a great way to run a company.
@@RichardSattin i think they had a changing of some personnel, so that could be a reason why.
When I get an answer about the Pro, I will pass it on.
I'm in the market for a yoke and was considering honeycomb. I use xbox and would like a set of decent rudder pedals. It does seem like the honeycomb pedals aren't available anywhere so I'm tempted to go the Turtle Beach route if I can't figure this out. Do you know which pedals would work for xbox and honeycomb together besides their own which seem impossible to get?
The Honeycomb pedals were delayed to 2024 so unless you're comfortable waiting another 4 months, you may want Turtle Beach. I love my Honeycomb products and they're very high end products for the price but patience is needed as they are known to have multiple delays per new product release as they are still a small company despite their demand.
The Turtle Beach Yoke comes with throttles, buttons for rudder control on the yoke, a screen that may get more support through software updates overtime, and pairs with the Velocity rudder pedals compatible with Xbox. Users report that it feels sticky on the axis but most people say that goes away overtime. The Honeycomb products need multiple products which comes out more expensive for the same controls but is more quality such as the Bravo having an autopilot panel and switchable throttle axis. It's you're choice to wait for the Charlie Pedals and enjoy the "Alpha Pro" and Bravo Throttle for now and maybe get a cheap joystick with rudder control, or get the cheaper Turtle Beach which is still pretty decent but won't be as immersive for "training" or people trying to get as realistic as possible.
Can u direct me to a super basic video to set up both the alpha/bravo and a c172 and baron. Sometimes some of these videos assume lots more experience with sims. I am flat at 0 with sims after 22 years as a commercial pilot. Thanks for the help

I have frasca and Redbird sim lab but trying to set a xp12 alternative to replace 12 ms 2020 sims with old cpu. Not worth upgrading. So was thinking xp 12 w/ honeycomb on a r76 as I saw in flight sim convention. But the settings are Chinese to me as of right now and all simers are talking nerdy talk is above my e175 capacity haha
@@SJSUa114-CFI man, I missed the 175 Captain upgrade by 5 slots. Instead I upgraded on the 145.
What questions on the settings do you have?
Had this yoke since release. To be honest im a little disappointed with mine. The yoke has started to creak when held, you can also feel the plastic bend when squeezed at the sides where the 2 plastic halfs meet. The plastic is definitely a little thinner than the original Honeycomb. The original one did not do this at all. I also dont notice the extra resolution that the hall sensors bring to the table. Very poor show 'Alpha Controls'.

So where is the second Ignition Switch for the Multi Engine users??? At least give me a 1 - 2 Selector by the Switch for ME use!
That would be a cool addition. There was once a way to program a switch for that to change from ignition #1 to #2.
I've been a real world pilot since 2010, when I got my private ticket. So I am extremely surprised to hear a real world airline pilot would be using MSFS20 instead of Xplane 12, which has much better flight physics and much more realistic dynamics. I find MSFS20 too cartoonish and game like instead of an actual sim. It's nice to look at the graphics of the ground if you are flying VFR at low altitudes, but can't get away from the horrible flight dynamics. I've actually got both, but rarely fly MSFS20, unless I'm just looking to see landmarks in certain places.
As far as the older Alpha versus the new Pro, which I get the message you are giving about the spring loaded starter switch, the mere fact that the new Pro comes with all the XBOX crap on it, turns me COMPLETELY off of that product. They SHOULD have updated the PC version as well as the XBOX version, and offered a choice. And besides fixing the springloaded starter, they should have added more resistence to the roll axis, as it's well different from the pitch axis. So I won't consider the new Pro, because I don't want all the XBOX crap on it, and it's just not worth it to me just for the starter switch improvement. Good review. Cheers!

Yeah, the xbox stuff can be a bit annoying but there are logistic issues as to why we only have the choices we do.
I prefer X-Plane over MSFS for training, but utilize MSFS for fun and my kids. MSFS is real close when it comes to just basic VFR training. And..... with the new add-ons out there, you can get some good training in even for the transport category aircraft.
As a real pilot myself...
XP12 still uses Blade elements theory simulation which is old and outdated. "Feels good" is no longer valid as an excuse for more accurate flight dynamics.
Mathematically and scientifically, Boundary Layer theory simulation and CFD is more accurate and that is being used in MSFS.
So, "XP has better flight dynamics" is just an old MITH. It was relevant years ago, for sure (because FSX was soooo old compared to XP11), but not anymore.
Stop being a fanboy. There's no more gap between these 2 simulators. Even MSFS has taken the higher step now. Bye-bye.
To much of the hard sell for me in this video i was hoping for more of a realistic opinion but sadly this is a promotional video.
Thank you for your input. The review is far from promotional. There are so few options in this price point that offer the same amount of realism and Xbox functionality.

Been on real multi engine simmers and is totally different .
This feels worst than CH products of the early 2000s
The yoke itself works well but is not well thought out. No button backlighting, just the ugly red leads behind the dust-collecting honeycombs that serve no purpose. No rudder keys on the yoke, and it takes up a massive expanse of desk space.
When will the Flight Community of products get a clue from the "direct drive" set up with a modular design.
Overall it is sub-standard.
I can understand your perspective. The alpha follows the usual trend that these products follow. Are you using the Alpha for PC, Xbox, or both?
