The version of the Carey Nitro OG you have there is listed at $335 at Knifecenter.
The paper you had says it's the Peter Carey/WE Nitro OG, which is cool because I believe you reviewed the WE Nitro Mini a while back and it had some cool variations but was surely a step down in overall design and finish; plus it was around a 7.5" overall length and this Nitro OG is much closer to the size of Carey's full custom Nitro. WE/Civivi usually never disappoint; it's come to the point that I am shocked whenever they have a miss because they hit so many home runs and that sentiment holds more weight when I see awesome unboxings like these. Civivi missed the mark on the utility elementum in my opinion. It's 2024 There is zero reason to not have a quick blade change on a utility knife

Literally none of the major OEM's or makers that have utility blade models have quick release mechanisms though. The CJRB Breeze doesn't have one, the Chaves C.H.U.B doesn't, Serge Panchenko's production Utility Slipjoint doesn't, the G&G Hawk Shortcut doesn't have one either. I can't think of a major OEM/knife maker that has a production knife with a replacement utility razor for the blade that has come out with a quick release. They probably are worried that knife guys using a knife with the only difference being a utility razor instead of a blade, will probably still be used as hard as it would if it were a regular knife blade and thus need to be secure enough to not be prone to becoming unattached during use.
@wes.killed.it.5511 the reate exo utility has quick blade change. Also I the exceed designs tirant v3 does have quick blade change. Most oems are just to lazy to do it they prefer to use hardware already on hand rather then make new parts to it
WOW! That WE fella is amazing, and one amazing thing about it is that WE knives always seem to be $100 more than I'd pay for them (like the Thug XL). Not this one though. This might be my first WE knife. Just gorgeous. Also that dagger is money.
WE makes knives you put on a display and never use! I wouldn't pay $300 plus and not have it a custom knife I at least know the hrc in. Heat treatment is the most crucial factor i🎉f you're running cpm20v, 204p , m390, m4 don't mean a damn if they're too soft or too hard. It's rarely too hard!😂
That orange peel finish on the Carey is gorgeous.
I'm exactly the same. I absolutely love the dagger grind that looks like it could be a double edge but works perfectly for a folder for me.
Are you familiar with Daggerr Knives? They makes some really neat false dagger folders. I have Dagger Nestor, which is a beast of a knife with a VG-10 false dagger blade. Cool button activated back liner lock mechanism too. Almost like a compression lock.
Saw the Nitro OG on Instagram and thought: this is a really awesome looking knife. The design is a bit retro and I love to see, that it is performing so great. Another great model by WE.

You bring up a good question with the 2 jimps or i guess just one statement. Is the jump the rises that come from when they cut into the blade or is it the cuts in the blade themselves? 🤨🤔

Yes! I saw it on Blade HQ's site a couple weeks ago listed as coming soon and I've been checking to see if it was in yet. Must have it! Anybody heard a release date?
I really hoping for a folding "dagger" like this, but with a hollow fuller ran through the middle to make the cutting geometry better along with the hollow ground bevels. Or at least flatten the middle a bit just to make it more performance oriented.

Man the WE prices are getting a bit ridiculous. If they are gonna keep charging $400+ for some of these models (that's not Integral), they NEED to get that HRC bumped up, especially on the coated versions. 61- 63HRC is what we would like to see on M390/20CV/204P on FOLDERS, so if they can narrow in on getting to that 61-62HRC It will be much easier to fork out $400+ for them considering the competition for Companies getting the hardness right is getting much larger at this point.
I love the look of that WE, though I'd be unlikely to fork out the money for one. That dagger though.. I'm sure that's going to be a big hit and that we'll see upgraded versions down the road. I'll be holding off for one of those, but man does it look nice.
The Nitro OG is very similar to MBK Turbo with different lock system (also a Carey design)

That WE knife is awesome! It's also to pretty to use! I'll stick with Cold Steel and actually use my knives. I wish Spyderco would start using S35vn or something more affordable. I wouldn't mind 154cm either. The American brands need to be more affordable!

The Nitro looks identical to the MBK Turbo. I own 2 of those and they are amazing. I'm on the fence on this one for that reason.

It's based on the Carey Nitro, not the Cayman. Clue's in the name😉
I do like the fact that the thumbstuds are easily removable for sharpening, although I'd prefer them not to be there at all.

Man I need to send you a knife that I got a little while ago. It's done by Lambert Kirby called Raine. It was sold through kaviso. Very similar looks to the we nitro og and the Varga Knives vbr.

A month or so ago, I got a Civivi Backlash, which I understand was Civivi’s first model, new for $30. Ergonomics of handle and thumb jimping are wonderful. The action is either way too tight and slow, or with a slightly loosened pivot, it’s okay, still scratchy, with side-to-side play in the deployed position. It’s my first Civivi and I love everything about the knife except for the fit and finish in the pivot, action, and lock-up - which are kind of 70% of the experience of a folding pocket knife.
I’d be interested in tips or feedback or comments.
The Baklash is still one of my most carried knives even though I have knives that cost 20x+ what I paid for my Baklash. It just feels right to me and I like the blade. It is not super sturdy, but really does the job for most tasks I have. If you need a daily hard work knife though, this is not it. I'd recommend you take apart, clean and replace the stock bearings with Skiff Workshop bearings 5mm-(11)-1/16", lube appropriately and then play with the tightness. IMO very good knife for the price.
@@heavyduty822 thanks for the thoughts. This could be my opportunity/impetus for investing in upgraded parts/bearings. I’m kinda concerned that the Skiffs won’t make enough of a difference to be worthwhile.
@@ajpend Totally get it, but you can always use those bearings in another knife if you feel it didn't make the difference you were looking for. This can become an expensive hobby. For my money, the bearing upgrade was worth it.

Why won’t WE knives make some of their more popular knives in a left handed version? That We Nitro would sell to lefties. It reminds me of the Kaviso Kirby Raine that recently released. If Bestech can OEM in batches of 50, then WE would have no problem doing that either. WE is big enough at this point to drop 2-3 models a year as pure left handed versions. release the popular knives from the previous model year. With so many smaller boutique knife makers (Vero, Griffin, Divo, Varga) doing it, I’m surprised that WE hadn’t taken the plunge. In a left handed version, I would buy that Nitro in a cold second.

My best friend is a custom knife maker on a small scale since he is 85 years old but boy did he hit it out of the park with a fixed blade knife he made for me and my sons. Carbon handles in black. And the blade has a reverse grind on both sides and steel is 62 on hardness and has a mirror Finish on it! Perfection in a fixed blade knife❤
