I'm no expert at all, but I sometimes go to the gym with my brother, but more often do workouts at home because i have dumbells. But I noticed that when you did the rdl's you were kinda squating at the same time. I often watch videos explaining that exercise and people usually say that when you are going down with the dumbells you should push your glutes back and not do a squat, cause when you are pushing the glutes back the legs automaticly bend, so that you extend the muscle that goes from the leg to the glutes. I cant explain it really well, but you should watch some videos of gym influencers doing the exercises you dont know really well, thats what I do. I watch a lot of them but Im gonna suggest the ones that I remember de name: Krissy Cela, Analis Cruz, Caroline Girvan (I do her home workouts), Diana Conforti.

Hi omg okay so for the RDL’S first bit of advice if you really want them gains, elevate your ankles a little, you can use like a block or a thin weight, just a few inches off the ground and it really helps. Also: keep your knees/legs together, maybe five-seven inches apart, and imagine you’re leaning back to touch your butt against a wall while keeping your weights as close to your legs as possible. Trust me, they burn but they work. 🩷

    • @snows12152

To further on the weights to legs thing, imagine leaning forward to pick something up

BEST ADVICE FOR ANYONE GOING TO THE GYM FOR THE FIRST TIME: no one cares. Literally not a soul cares, everyone’s too focused on themselves. Go get them gains and lemme again say NO ONE. cares :D. (also ty kayli for the vlogs ur literally my fav RUclipsr ever 🩷🩷🩷🩷)

now that i’ve gone a few times, i really did notice not ONE person cared AND i was filming on top of everything. everyone there was just doing their own thing and is bettering themselves. first time is still terrifying cause we’re all in our own heads but if you can get past that hump you’re gonna be good!

Babe for your RDL’s it looked like you were squatting more than doing a hinge movement. Don’t know if it was just the camera angle! Think about like trying to touch your toes and pushing your hips back!
You did amazing for your first workout! Conquering the fear of going to the gym is the hardest thing! I still struggle with being perceived at the gym. It’s what usually keeps me from going

"good mornings" are good to start off with when learning how to do RDLs. helps you get used to that hinge motion in your hips and that slight bend in your knee towards end of that eccentric movement. that's what they had us do in weightlifting class in HS before we "graduated" to RDLs lol. props to you kayli! good luck on your fitness journey!

You're actually iconic for filming your first time at the gym! 💎 I went for the first time at 23 years old and I just felt so embarrassed wandering around looking for the equipment I wanted, figuring out how to adjust machines, and figuring out the right weights for a new exercise. For real though it's all mindset, someone can be an experienced gym goer and still feel that gymtimidation when they go to a new gym or try new things (which you should to keep the fitness journey fun). Just enjoy the process and you'll see those beginner gains before you know it! ❤

I think you did awesome! The more you go, the more comfortable you will get and find the exercises you like to do most. The RDLs are more of a hip hinge, less squat, but honestly I think the deadlift is one of the hardest lifts to get right! Just takes time. Even 10 years into lifting, it is still a constant effort to make sure my form is on point! Keep up the great work.

You started ur fitness journey around the exact time as you and it’s been hard on me. I’m an extremely insecure person so it’s been tough for me to push myself to going almost every day, even if it’s just for a walk because I feel like I won’t change or love myself. When at the gym I felt like everyone was judging me and I’ve only done treadmill and stair master because I get anxious with others being there. So seeing your journey makes me feel a lot less alone in this! Thank you so much for your positive energy.

It’s a really good idea to start with 0 weight for things like the lunges, get the form right, and then build up from there!

Don’t get caught up in the fad diets and etc.. do what works for you. And it’s trial & error if you don’t have a coach; so try different things out and don’t be afraid to experiment.

Two pieces of advice I would stress: take your time going in and out of each exercise. rushing isn't going to help you. second thing is really pay attention to your back and core; you don't want to be arching into other exercises and compensating. can cause back problems down the line. also relax your neck!

as a gym girly myself i can remember how scary the first time was but you did such great job! Be careful with rdl´s at the beginning, it´s really hard to get the correct form. maybe start with squats, kickbacks and hipthrust and glute bridges (they are a bit easier to do) love your content btw!

Loving this new series! Yes, please post a workout clothing vid! I’m OBSESSED with your black low back bodysuit and I’d really like to know where it’s from! Also, how do you maintain your hair after working out? I’m assuming you’re not washing your hair more often than before? Keep up the good work! You’re doing amazing! ♥️

As a gym girlie, who has been consistently working out for 2 years, I think gym community is the most supportive and welcoming community. It’s great your boyfriend is there to guide you. I guess the best advice is to work on your mind muscle connection, it’s literally everything when growing any muscle! I am so proud of you for doing this, you’ve got this!

don’t destroy yourself on the first couple of days! just get your body used to the movements and perfect your form before increasing the weight. welcome to the gym community girl :)))

I definitely agree with having a gym buddy, I personally get way too much anxiety going by myself 😂❤

Congrats!! Getting in the gym is definitely the hardest part and you did great! My tip would be to consider compound vs isolation exercises. You probably want to do your harder compound lifts that require more muscle groups (hip thrust, RDLs, squats, lunges) first then go into isolation movements (hamstring curls, calf raises, abductors) towards the end. I also think lunges are 1,000% easier on a smith machine because you can use the bar to brace yourself! Great video 😊

Also RDL’s vs SLDL (straight leg deadlifts) RDL’s you want that bend in your knee which is PERFECT, but imagine you have something on the crease of your hip, and hinge at your hip. And only go up when you feel that stretch in your hamstring and glutes. SLDL mainly target your hamstrings. you want to make sure you only slightly bend your knees & take that weight past your knees to get that stretch in your hamstrings. For a challenge, place a plate under your feet

Preworkout is not regulated by the FDA! It’s not considered food, so there aren’t regulations for what can be in it, if you are looking for an energy boost before exercising I would recommend having a shot of cold brew and something with a little bit of sugar to keep you going

Hi Kayli! So proud of you for making this huge change! You should be so proud of yourself ❤
Also I’m not one to correct others form because forms differ with body type, but one thing that is really important and helpful to know early : engage your core! For example on the hamstring machine, keep your back flat to the seat and engage the core to protect your back and put the strain on the right muscles, same with all exercises really 😂

Also for rdls, slight bend in the knees and try to think about sending your butt back instead of down (you can do with your butt close to a wall at first to get the feeling for the correct form)😊

Hi!:) I've also started going to the gym like this year and thanks to my boyfriend I've learned a lot. For example, I suggest you some mobility exercises and warm up before your actual workout, it definitely helps you better for the pain ( you actually don't feel it at all after the gym session). I was also very scared at first, don't worry for the other people! Everyone has been a beginner!!

I'm a bit late but I thought I'll comment on your split (the one in the notebook):
    - Overall volume may be high for someone just starting out but since women can usually handle and benefit from more volume than men, you may be good.
    - Your pull day (back and biceps) seems too lat-dominant, missing some upper back work. I'd swap out one of the vertical pulls (pulldown or pullup) for a high row, face pull or even a rear delt fly. Also, I don't see a point in doing the seated row one arm at a time, no need for that, especially with beginners, unless you have a good reason for it.
    - Your push day (chest, triceps, shoulders) seems very tricep-heavy. Whereas chest should be good in your case with just 3 sets, from experience, shoulders can handle a lot of volume. I'd swap one of the tricep exercises for a lateral raise.
