  • Long-throw dual action polishers have become the go-to machines for both professionals and automotive enthusiasts. These machines yield excellent results in a shorter amount of time, making them a clear choice when time is money. The best part is that they are much more user friendly compared to the dated rotary polishers.
    A unique trait that the Rupes BigFoot and Griot’s Boss polishers share is that they do not spin freely like other free-sprinkle machines. This is because these machines were designed with a shroud that always is in contact with the top of the backing plate. This does not allow the backing plate to spin unless the machine is turned on. The shroud was engineering to slow excessive backing plate rotation when the pad is not under load while the machine is running. So in situations where the pad is not in contact with a polishing surface, or barely in contact with the surface, and the machine is turned on, the ultimate speed of rotation is limited by the friction between the shroud and the backing plate. This was seen as a potential performance inhibitor.
    The idea behind this simple ‘Washer-Mod’ is to eliminate the contact between the shroud and backing plate by inserting a thin washer between the mating faces allowing the backing plate to spin freely and therefore increase the backing plate rotation. The benefit here is that more backing plate rotation can lead to an increase in cutting speed while also potentially aiding in your polishing results as well.

    I’ve actually had hands on training with rupes with Alberto, And modifying the polisher can result in premature failure. Anyway the rubber shroud is just causing a bit interference, but with the new mark 2 more power makes up for all that. Also over use the rubber will wear. And over time a washer mod will not be needed

    Great video, but I don’t think it’s a great idea that putting a 5” backing plate on a 21, it has a reason of using a 6” BP on 21, check out the video that Rupes explains why you shouldn’t swap BP plates over on different machines, just stick with 15 if you really wanna use a 5”pad I think:)

    I wonder why RUPES didn’t design the machine with this washer mod straight out of the factory. This mod must affect your warranty?

      @@andyh8239 absolutely NOT! Rupes designs these machines to be consumer friendly but not void warranty if you apply this modification. Some of the things in this video are true there are a few that are not. Probably just a mistake and he didn't realize it when he said it. Why in the hell he would have to do a second step IDK because I promise you that those defects should've been removed and ready for sealant in just one step

      Exactly! It all depends how well you take care of it and how you wash the car. The safer you are with washing it, the less you'll be scratching it. The less you scratch it, the less often you will need to polish the paint.

    • @saucy3809
      @saucy3809 6 лет назад

      You should polish as much as the car allows you to. If your car is clear coated , the layer of clear coat is fairly thick, but if you are like many of us that purchased an used car, chances are it has been polished before, be careful cutting to deep with the polisher or you may get into the base paint fo the car.

    Seems lots of negative comments from RUPES Company HR managers or cyber cell team . Yes this works like charm and no need to buy multiple machines as RUPES charges hell lot of money 💰 for this machines. So moral of the story is changing BP is worth every penny and washer mod is always best part of it . Its 23mm washer available from £0.30 penny . Saw the rupes video about chabging BP side effects and it make me laugh 😂😂. Just chill and keep swaping BP from 15-21 and vice versa. Cheers 🎉

      Clearcoat doesn't oxidize.

    • @todtalk3912
      @todtalk3912 3 года назад

      You dont have an old enough neglected vehicle. It def does oxidize and when it does the paint has a chalky type of look to it.
      Good news is, it can be removed and fairly easily n quickly with a da or rotory.
      Its when the paint basically dries up mainly from the sun and the oils and chemicals in the paint are dried up and also contaminates left on the paint help speed the process up and make it worse than it would of been.
      You need to at least polish the paint, it can sometimes need compounding and in the case it gets abd enough, it will need repainting, as in the clear coat is peeling off. Sometimes thats from the process of not being cared for properly but when that happens its usually from something in the painting process that didnt happen the way it was supposed to, or bad cear coat that failed early for whatever reason. If theres big parts of the clwar missing with faded paint theres not much u can do there besides getting to the paint and if the paint is thick enough sanding to clean good paint and re clearing, but thats rare thats ever an option, usually only starting froms scratch is the only option.
