I think my favorite part of your videos isn't so much the photography, as the sheer joy on your face when watching wildlife. Thanks for sharing. Stay well.
I had last year, a pear of woodpeckers in a tree in a park before my balkony, its was so great to see. After weeks there was a baby woodpecker coming out,my face was Just so happy as your face. Great vidio its put a Smile on my face too. Thank you so much for sharing
Good morning again from Nova Scotia. A cup of coffee and another great video. Thank you for posting these. Have a great week - stay safe and stay well.
Yesterday mor I got I found my own pair of woodpeckers and it was so much fun to photograph and watch them. You can use the Olympus EE-1 to get a wider view, if you know where the focus will be you can use the laser sight to see the birds coming in.
I used the pro capture low the other day to catch a Red-winged Blackbird taking off in flight. I use the same Sony tough card as you but I prefer to use procapture low or silent low, that way I rarely fill the buffer!
Pro Capture very impressive looks better than the slow mo on my recent Woodpecker outing. Taking a picture before release sounds like fantasy but not with the Olympus . Great video
Espen Helland excellent actually. The 1.7 x crop in 4K comes in very handy for that extra « reach » and when filming in 50 FPS that means lots of choice for the perfect frame
Hi Espen, A big "Thank you" for your excellent videos. As an Old Bloke who has significant hearing loss I wonder if it might be possible to put a text version of your commentary on the bottom of videos when you are whispering out on location as I, (and possibly many others) have a great deal of trouble hearing what you are saying under those circumstances.
Thank you for posting Espen, very much appreciated - I have just switched to the M1X from Canon but not had chance to try out ProCapture - just to get it set up! A couple of questions arising from this video if I may ..... (1) Am I right in thinking that you still have to half press the shutter button to instigate ProCapture even if its focus function as been taken away after setting back button focus? (2) I am thinking of using a remote cable release to effectively half press and then fully press the shutter - do you know if this will work with ProCapture? I am hoping that it will as I want to mount my camera on a tripod as you have done, prefocus and then operate the camera without physically touching it. I'm thinking that as a remote release is simply an electrical extension to the shutter button switch I will be able to use ProCapture in that way. EDIT Just had a brief try with a remote release in my house and it DOES work as expected - half press on the remote release invokes ProCapture .... now to find a proper subject and get to grips with this new way of shooting.
Hi Alan, awesome! I’ve been thinking about a remote cable release as well, several times it can be a strain to wait for a long time. I’m sure you already answered your other question as well, but yes you still have to half press shutter button for pro cap as bbf only focuses. But you may be able to change that in settings.
@@EspenHelland FYI, the Canon RS 60E3 remote release is identical in wiring to the Olympus RM-CB2. The Canon one is available on Amazon at about a quarter the price of the Olympus one (which is currently unavailable anywhere that I have looked). I prefer "officially" branded devices like this rather than those labelled as "compatible" simply because of quality control and manufacture quality .... but maybe that's just me.
Hi Espen, really enjoying your adventures with the new Olympus gear. Can you answer a couple of questions please. 1/ Though you have had the Olympus for a short time, are you finding it gives better results than the cannon gear. 2/ Living in Scotland how do you find the low light capabilities of the Olympus (or is that problem removed by having Topaz) 3/ Why the mk2 and not the mk3? Sorry it's a bit long but I am also thinking about the same change.
loving the new gear, I think it's better than what I had, the 7Dii on many aspects. Noise can be an issue, it's one of the downsides, but I don't find it that big a problem. I use lower shutter speeds and the IS is excellent. Topaz helps when I need it. It'll be different over winter when it's a bit darker, but I tried out the em1x over the last winter and got great results with it. I went for MK2 first because of price, the 300mm f4 was expensive, but wanted to get that first and upgrade the body later.
Hi Espen, great shots and very tempted to change to this set up. I read somewhere that high ISO was an issue but didn't state what high actually was. Do you find it ok without using topaz in post production? Thanks
Thanks Brian! It's definitely one of the limitations with the system. It think the em1x is better and on par with the Canon 7Dii with is good for a cropped, but nothing like some of the newer full frame dslrs. I always try to reduce my shutter speed instead of increasing ISO, and with the excellent image stabilisation it can work really well. I try not to go higher than ISO 1600 with the em1ii, but I have and they are still ok with some cleanup with DeNoise.
Woods are massive so you must of been right place right time to find that nest! I know the chicks make noise but you have done well to find that! I’ve found a nest aswell but noticed only one woodpecker is feeding the chicks, do you think the chicks will make it? And also do you think you will change to Olympus ? Thanks Ben.
Nice work Espen. The procapture mode looks very useful. Having given up 640mm effective focal length how are you finding 600mm effective ? If Olympus finally release the 150-400 f4 I will be very tempted to make the switch
Hi from western Australia. Footage looks great, glad its working out for you with the new camera, you certainly are getting some great video and images there. , I've just gone mirrorless mainly due to arthritis, I still have my 7DII and 5DIII but its become harder all the time to carry them far. So I've just gone to a Fuji XT3 and I have a couple of lenses and hoping to get a 55-200 (so much smaller and lighter than my canon gear) the camera also can shoot mechanical and electronic shutter at extreme speeds.. Quite amazing really. But I think Im going to have to change my whole photography ways when it comes to nature and birds, after years of huge lenses . I guess its something to aspire to, change is as good as a holiday so they say. I will enjoy watching you and others I watch on RUclips for all the wonderful close up wildlife
I am curious: Is there a remote shutter release that will operate the Pro Capture mode? That might relieve some of the difficulty with holding half shutter press on the camera body.
I’m pretty sure the official remote trigger does, not sure of the name but it’s on the OM website. I’ve thought this would be useful for certain situations as well.

You'll be able to use it, but it may take a little time to buffer. I haven't used a 170mb before, best to try it and see if the buffering time is acceptable to you. I guess it depends a bit on how you focus, I tend to use just the one small point for focusing C-AF. I only use bird tracking in particular cases because I find that it loses the subject sometimes.

That’s amazing! Tanks Miranda 🙂
I love hide work, and I find looking out of a peep- hole is great for anticipating birds coming in.
I love pro-capture mode
more bird footage please
Good morning again from Nova Scotia. A cup of coffee and another great video. Thank you for posting these. Have a great week - stay safe and stay well.
Thank you Michael!
Great way to start my Sunday morning. Thanks for the post, Espen!
That feature looks like a game changer! Shots like that would’ve been incredibly difficult to capture previously.
Absolutely!
I use the Procapture too! Olympus makes great cameras for wildlifephotography.
Sadly USED to make great cameras. So long Olympus 😪
Very helpful. New to videos and this camera,. Table at the end useful too. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Fantastic images and video Espen. There is just so much you can do with the Pro Capture mode. Can't wait to see more of your brilliant photography.
Thank you very much Pauline!
Thanks for an excellent video Espen. Great to see the GSW nest behaviour. Pro capture mode looks interesting.
Thanks Paul!
pro capture is one of my favorite feature I love Olympus camera so much, I wonder why no other camera brand do similar things
Very nice video I even learned how to tell the male from the female which I did not know before.
Good to hear :)
Hi Espen that was a brilliant video and that feature looks like fun and wow some brilliant images. Until next time take care and stay safe
Thank you Clive! Take care
Cool feature. Enjoyed the bird time too!
Excellent explanation on Pro Capture mode
Thanks Ian!

Awesome shots! Nice video.
60 FPS!!!!! Wow that is pretty amazing and resulted in some stunning images Espen. Pro capture seems like an amazing function.
Thanks KG!
I got the distinct impression you really enjoyed the shoot and in particular using the pro capture seemed exciting
What a great video.... thanks for sharing
Great video as always Espen, Pro Capture sure looks impressive!
It is! Thanks :)
I should also say nice that you are exploring the strengths of m43 systems as well. Keep at it top notch video.
Excellent channel. Thank you very much for sharing. You have a new subscriber in Buenos Aires. Best regards.
Awesome, thank you!
Beautiful pics, as always.
Thank you Jeff!
Great video well done 👍
Thank you Tobias Häufele!
This feature looks really awesome. Also have to check and get the card you mentioned sir. Everyone need that kind of storage speed
Absolutely! Thanks Karthick :)

I switch between the two, when I tried low for these I really wasn't getting many images of the flight.
Pro Capture very impressive looks better than the slow mo on my recent Woodpecker outing. Taking a picture before release sounds like fantasy but not with the Olympus . Great video
Thank you!
I use the frame grabbing feature in my 5d4 whilst filming in 4K, has proven to be very useful in scenes that are too fast to capture otherwise.
Cool! How do they come out?
Espen Helland excellent actually. The 1.7 x crop in 4K comes in very handy for that extra « reach » and when filming in 50 FPS that means lots of choice for the perfect frame
great video
Thank you rudy!
Espen, nice video. Pro capture is where it is at. Only one camera beats that and it is the g9 6k mode which is pro-capture on steroids.....

Nice one Espen. Now you are shooting M43, you may care to check out the Topaz DeNoise 30 day free trial for those overcast, higher ISO days.
Thanks, was already using it for my 7D. It's so good to have. I try to go slower shutter speeds instead of using the high ISO.
Beautiful woodpecker situation and view I hope to purchase gear like this especially for the same task. What hide do you use?
The tragopan Grouse V+ is ideal for this 👍
Great video. Looks like some nice features on the Olympus. Ive tried the same thing with swallows leaving nesting boxes - fricken impossible 😫
Thanks! They're so fast

Really good! not much difference in focal length, but handy to have that extra stop of light.
Great shots Espen, must try the Pro Capture on mine, do you use the 1.4 teleconverter with your lens?
Thanks! Don't have it yet, but will pick one up soon.

Can you use an SD card with 170mb write speed with ProCapture High?

Do you take the image stabilization off as you are using a tripod.
No never really turn it off
M43、OK
Wait...where is your girlfriend's thumbnail of you? Lol
🤣She makes these as well luckily!
