    Christine is so good l I love this musical. One of the best productions of MAME I Ever saw was a All Male cast , in the 70s at a theatre in San Francisco !! It was Fabulous !! I went because my baby Brother was in it, and He was good!! I had to find Him because he was in a female role in the chorus !! There was a part where the cast came down through the isles of the theatre, singing their parts, and it just so happened He came right past me !! I almost didn't recognize Him, but then He knew where I would be seated. And winked at me !! As He passed by !l It is still, after all these years , one of the best productions of MAME I HAVE ever seen !! My Brother is now in Heaven and I remember how pretty He was !! LOVE You, David !! Thank You for posting this scene from MAME !! Stay Safe, Luv Ya 😍😘

    Just saw an interview where she said the biggest problem with her broken leg was not the dancing so much as it was coming down a monstrous staircase. Figured she might be exaggerating it a bit. Then I saw this thing wheel out. My own knees got sore seeing it.

    • @cata8e
      @cata8e 2 года назад +1

      As a person who had surgery at one knee, i almost have a panic attack when i see those stairs. And the most difficult part is going down, not up. I mean, i couldn't walk properly for half of that year and i couldn't run properly for about a year after. I can't imagine how is she able to do this after about 2 months after the surgery. I can't even enjoy the show, because all can think is the pain she must have felt through all this.

  • @jlasf

    I saw the original with Angela Lansbury and this version in DC. Christine Baranski is good.... but not quite good enough. That's why this never went to Broadway. All the pieces are in place - Baranski can sing, dance and act. But somehow doesn't inhabit the role, the way Lansbury did.
    There are a handful of Broadway roles that are owned: Robert Preston, Music Man. Rex Harrison, My Fair Lady. Barbra Streisand, Funny Girl. Zero Mostel, Fiddler on the Roof. Other people can do them well. (Lea Michele is great in FG right now.) But no one can erase the memory of the original. (Hello Dolly has dual ownership: Carol Channing and Pearl Bailey.)
    Angela Lansbury still owns this role. It revived her career and she was on the cover of "Life" magazine. In Hollywood, she was almost always the "heavy" and was never allowed to be glamorous and beautiful. "Mame" allowed her to tap into her innate classiness - she was from a prominent British family. I think it's that "class" that made her a perfect fit for Mame.
    As for Lucy, the less croaked, the better....

    • @josephsf2452
      @josephsf2452 6 месяцев назад

      that's probably one of the best comments I've ever read on RUclips. You are 100% correct, "Baranski can sing, dance and act. But somehow doesn't inhabit the role, the way Lansbury did.". That's exactly how I felt. what's interesting is I didn't do that comparison with Angela Lansbury and Rosalind Russell, to me those two embody Auntie Mame.
