@@ProjectFarm do a review on brushless DeWalt and Craftsman tools... Since they are both owned by the same company. One is definitely cheaper than the other and is it all just branding that makes the difference??? Impact drivers, regular drills... I mean even their job site stacking tool boxes are interchangeable.... Including the radios? So is it over hype to buy DeWalt?

Thanks for the review! I have had the $59 Milwaukee for more than ten years now. It was quite pricey (for me), but I like sturdy tools with longevity. The adapter has helped me out of lots of (literally) tight spots, and continues to work flawlessly to this day! I have performed three flat renovations and a complete family house refurbishment with it during these years.
I've had mine since very first release which has to be nearly 20 years old now. The investment is so good that I won't think twice getting a new once mine finally gives up.
Likewise former pool and spa technician, and I'll also have to say it's a game changer.

I picked up the dewalt one that came in free on a bit and drill kit that costed anywhere from 9.99- 14.99 at Home Depot for BlackFriday.
Every time I'm shopping for tools/accessories, I just know Project Farm has a video to help. Thank you for having the inset box with a picture of each tool as you went over the graphs! That saves going back for visual checks. I think build quality and the screw and bolt driving are the most useful tests here. The max torque tests are interesting, but you could almost always use a wrench or socket and breaker bar to loosen very tight bolts anywhere a right angle drive would fit.
I think it indicates how much headroom you have with the device. The more over spec it is, the longer it will likely last.
This is where the whole test to failure concept comes from. Unless you break it you don't know where it's limits are.

There came a time where I had to use a drill, one of these adaptors, about (3) 12 inch extensions, and a 3/4 spade bit to drill holes through ceiling joists to run a wire for a recessed lighting. My flexible drill bit did nothing. A huge amount of torque was required. At one point, the shaft for the spade bit snapped. Still, the adaptor remained strong.
I got that Milwaukee $60 right angle drill bit about two decades ago when it was still only $29. And it still holds up very well today. With moderate to heavy use

Considering this was a torque test more than anything, I have to say that dewalt flex shaft is perfectly fine when it's general use, such as my last job where I worked on vehicle interiors. A lot easier to deal with a flex shaft over a static position right angle adapter to get hard to reach screws and bolts.
Using the right tool for the job. Personally, I don't like these stress-to-fail tests. This is not really how most tools die.
It's definitely more for light duty use than high torque. I blew mine apart trying to use it to drill 1/2 in holes in the top of a wall frame. If you've got it full speed and it's not perfectly aligned it likes to bind and spin like a pin wheel, with a sharp bit on the end!

@@RevelationAV They wear out and some die due to fatigue. Fatigue is not the same thing as push to fail. Push to fail is going way past the design limit. Fatigue is where the tool dies well within spec.

Test portable ac units for tool battery changes
I've carried a Dewalt 60 in my tool bags for years after destroying numerous other brands while steel-stud framing. It's compact size and durability make it my best option. I found one at Home Depot on Black Friday this year with a set of tips for $10 I'm giving to a co-worker for Christmas.
I have bought several in a kit as well that had other bits and driver tips as well. 12.95 for me.

@@Cobyc5150 the rear handle/hypoid or the sidewinder/standard saw? Either way, both are great saws. The rear handle is more powerful but obviously heavier. The gears on the hypoid are basically a hybrid of a worm drive and sidewinder, hence being call a hypoid. Worm drive his more powerful than sidewinder, but sidewinders are more efficient. Hypoid you get the best of both worlds, just slightly less powerful than a worm drive.
Andrej, i thought he did a comparison or circ saws. May have been the 61/2, but not 100% sure. I just remember seeing him test circ saws a while back

I’ve come to like your tests and find them to be more meaningful and more scientifically designed than most I see on RUclips. You’re one of the few channels to which I have subscribed. When I was an auto glass tech, these things were indispensable. I still have my Milwaukee angle driver from 10 years ago.
Also, from watching many of your videos, both DeWalt and Milwaukee seem to really care about what their name gets attached to. Can't go wrong with either brand.

I think your right in most cases. Unfortunately though when they have their misses they are usually very bad which is confusing to me. It causes me to considering to look elsewhere sometimes. But hey that is why we love @Project Farm because he does all the testing for us so we don't have to guess at it lol.
@@D3M3NT3Dstrang3r yeah I agree. But they tend to be smaller tools/less critical items. Like I had a Milwaukee utility knife that was a steaming turd. But their main line tools or specialty tools tend to be very good quality.

I was at the salvage yard removing a stereo off a Honda and needed a 90 degree driver to remove some bolts and a screw. I struggled using an offset screwdriver and a 1/4in ratchet in a tight space. Here I am again watching your videos to get phenomenal feedback on your test. Thanks!!

I've used several brands over the years. The basic Dewalts have served me the best. For my application of mostly tek screws in sheet metal, or various wood screws, their balance of size and durability have worked the best.

I'm glad I watched to the end, and I, as with everyone else down here, really appreciate the thoroughness of these tests! I've been using the Dewalt 60 for drilling wiring holes in the upper and lower wall plates. I finally had the gears give up on me, with the debris preventing the mechanism from turning at all, and had to purchase a replacement, for which I bought the same one again. Drilling seems to be relatively heavy-duty for these adapters, but they still make it infinitely easier to drill 90 degrees to the wood in places where the drill simply won't fit, as opposed to the electrician I hired who used an extremely long straight drill and said "just guess the angle, and try not to miss". In his defense, I think he'd be going through a 90 degree adapter every other day.

The Dewalt 60 (or similar) regularly comes as a bonus item in impact bit kits. I got mine in an impact drill & driver kit. It is good for what it is and I've had no issues with it. Since I needed the bits, I consider it a free bonus. And you can regularly find the bit kits with Dewalt 60 on sale for cheaper than the Dewalt 60 by itself. I use a Ryobi one+ HP impact driver (not with a HP battery) with this and it works great. I recommend the Dewalt 60.

I got that kit too near black Fri for $10. That's why I got it. Great deal for bits & adapter. Can't say I will b beating the crap out of it so I'm sure it'll b fine. Just a nice bonus item for hard to reach areas
Only bad part is taking the bit out…only comes out with pliers. Its set in little to far

@@Bremend Mine has a little hole in the back to poke the bit out with a #1 phillips or anything smaller than that. I do have an older version though (about 2012).
It used to amaze me how consistently the Milwaukee tools were at or near the top of each test. Now its come to be expected, and this one was no different. Great job as always!

I used to work for Milwaukee Power Tools as my first job out of college and they do make quality stuff. The major thing that I noticed is that they have field research teams that go out to jobsites and asks real contractors and laborers what could make their day easier or their tools work better and they take all that information to make the best tool the can for the price. The tools are still made in China but they really do put in a lot of real use research by asking the people who use the tools the most what they can improve.

@@walterbrunswick So technically they don't have any assembly workers similar to how Apple manufactures products. They hire a third-party assembly company similar to the likes of Foxconn (the manufacturer of all Apple products) to manufacture all their products overseas.

Very impressive test. It is nice to see the increased amount of information including the pictures of the brand from the chart. I have used the Milescraft driver for about 5 years now, It has worked very well with no noticeable issues.
I have used a off brand and still have it (It is at 45 deg angle, works well servicing candy machines, but has early proto technology-sloppy gears)
The high priced Milwaukee seems to be made very well and if I need a long term HD 90 deg adapter that seems to be the one.

I didn’t know these even existed 6 months ago, now I reach for these all the time. I’ve used them to drill holes in tight spaces (with hex keyed bits) tighten and loosen fasteners in places that would usually require an extensive amount of time to get to otherwise. Probably the most useful is the screws that hold on the wheel well of Chevy Silverados when we need to remove a bumper.

remember going gaga when saw/got a grandaddy of these 40 yrs ago...miss it a lot...lost in the housefire,along with the rest of the tools,last nov...it took the firetruck 30 min to go from the fire station at the top of the hill to my house at the bottom of the same hill, go figure...if this mechanic fixed cars the way these guys do their job, we'd all be walking...plus you cant sue the fire dept here in canuckstan
These adapters are worth their weight in gold when you're working in cramped auto interiors. I own both the Milwaukee units, but Dewault looks like its a good choice as well. Great job, as always, Todd. P.S. - How are your forearms after the screw driver workout? Can you fold a frying pan yet? lol

Dewalt's have a discount right know at Homedepot, 14 dollars and comes with more impacts bits.
I'm a tradesman & this guy is one of the very best for the most thorough tool & accessory tests.

Would love to see a comparison between carb cleaners or electronic cleaners in a can. I use them daily to clean almost anything not just carbs or electronics but glue on plastic that alcohol can't get of and acetone will destroy the plastic surface. Please consider this

The flex shaft Dewalt can be a sketchy situation if you don't have a good hold on that head and you're drilling. I was using it to do electrical work and drill 1/2" holes in wall headers where the roof made it a hard to reach area. If you're not holding on to that head it will kink and spin the whole thing. The all metal fixed version is much easier to control in awkward positions where you're likely using these.

I busted one of those plastic milwaukee angle drivers, teeth on the tapered gears sheered off. I believe it made about 20 or so 7/8 holes through wood with a diablo paddle bit over the course of several weeks. I wasn't upset, each of those holes wouldve been hell without it, didn't regret the 25 bucks. Replaced it the same day it broke, next day I saw the heavy duty milwaukee angle driver at a Ferguson in town, and it's been a life saver too.
You put these things through more hell than I ever will, thanks for good science.

I've abused the heck out of my Milwaukee (expensive one) for 10+ years for bolts and screws with impact drivers/wrenches. The adjustable handle has made it worth every penny especially when drilling holes at weird angles. Great video as always!

A lot of different brands make flex shafts, i feel like that should be it's own video. whatever the case, i enjoyed this. i use the milwaukee (cheaper one) almost daily, it's worked great for years now.

@@ProjectFarm to add to this idea, I'd like to see which adapters have the least play (for example, turning carb adjustment screws in hard to reach places, which requires accuracy and little slop), and if there's any difference in ability to drive/remove hard to reach hardware (I break lots of exhaust manifold studs that are hard to reach). Drive some screws behind an obstacle and see which adapters are more likely to cause cam out?

I've been using the Milwaukee 8510 for years now and it's a real workhorse. I have no fears throwing a 1-1/2-in spade bit in it and drilling through pine, poplar or oak joists or beams. The adjustable handle is prone to coming loose, so you have to be careful storing it in your pocket and walking around. I've lost parts on it that way when the screw handle came out and the adjustment pieces scattered around. This is definitely a case of "you get what you pay for."

@Ross Radford In soft studs you should be able to drill 3/4 inch holes all day long. The only thing you need to be careful of is hitting nails. That can cause the drill to twist in unexpected way and can be dangerous (I got my finger jammed really hard between a stud and the drill once when the whole thing twisted and locked up on my finger). It's actually safer to drill with an impact since it won't twist when the bit jams.

Awesome video. Perhaps a video on knee pad inserts would be good. Finding a good set can be tough. Comfort is subjective, but there are a lot of objective tests that could be done too.

I just had to do a 3.0 toyota valve cover job. Two back bank bolts broke off. Right up against the firewall. I bought a Dewalt 120 and it literally saved the day and drilled out the bolt, so I could retap. These things are amazing! What a lifesaver! I will probably grab an all metal Milwaukee one after seeing this test!

This was great! Milwaukee has been my goto recently for power tools but their smaller tools seem to be hit and miss. Like the fact that they have a solidly built almost commercial grade product available for retail.
Just to throw yet another idea on to the list, floor jacks might be interesting. There's a lot of weird brands, they vary greatly in price, some have major ergonomic issues, creep and clunky letdown. Would love to see the project farm pit stop...carry a 5 ton floor jack from the garage to the back of your truck and get the wheels off the ground haha.

I have trashed my fair share of floor jacks. The only on I've had hold up is a NAPA pro. I mean I get that people are prone to abuse floor jacks, but I've always oversized my lifting equipment and had a lot of brands fail.
Or maybe put the jack under the hydraulic press and see when they explode 😈
did it surprise anyone else to see that a strong CCP/Chinese company like Milwaukee would have their best 90 degree angle tool built in Taiwan? Given all the political falderal between China and Taiwan, it just struck me as funny and ironic...
The Milwaukee ones which he tested are better than any commercial / professional versions which I have used. I use the fully plastic version daily in a professional setting and it takes some abuse and has been doing so for several years now.

I just ordered the Milwaukee tool based on your test results. Thank you for all the tests. They have proved to be valuable to me a few times now. Very time consuming for you I’m sure. I would be interested in seeing a comparison on larger coolers for hunting/fishing/camping for an extended period of time. Are the newer ones worth the $$$ or traditional ones good enough? I would also like to see a comparison on torque wrenches if possible. Keep up the awesome videos!

Great video as always! Timely, too. I just bought a right-angle adapter for my Dremel 400 series rotary tool, and I am loving it, so I suspect an RAA for my drill will not be far behind.

Any flex shaft tool has a very limited application, when you need them they might just save your project. I guess the same could be said about all these adapters, but you definitely proved that spending a bit more for these is worth it if you are doing anything heavy-duty. Very well made tests as always.

I recently bought the DeWalt DWARA 60 and this video has reassured me that I've bought a good angle adaptor. Seeing how much abuse it survived in the video it should certainly handle my use.

Bought mine in 2019. Use it occasionally. Works great. Is a must-have in a carpenter's tool box. I have noticed it heating up some but not to a level of concern. Only complaint in practical use is its thin and slippery, tubular form which can make it difficult to hold, causing it to turn and slip off the screw head in tight spaces. The Makita angle adapter seems to have a slightly better form in this regard but i haven't tested it.
In these times, there exists SOOOO much 'testing' BS on the web, that it's really tedious shifting thru all the vid's looking for the TRUTH. THEN I found your site, and the process became SOOOO much simpler, and SOOOO much more satisfying- to the point NOW that when I need to know what's good and what's not, Project Farm is my GO TO source for practical answers:) Salutations and congratulations for setting the Web's 'Standard of Excellence'; and, a personal thankyou :) Thumbs UP!!!!!!
If there is one thing to learn from your videos its that thier is no one set company many people get stuck on one brand and that all they will buy tools blades bits etc but your videos always prove that just because one brand has best tools doent mean they make the best blades bits etc as always great video and Merry Christmas project farm

Great point! Only a couple of them can survive a hard hitting impact tool!
90% of my use with them is hex drill bits with this tool run by a 3/8 snap on drill. I have found the cheap slim dewalt to hold the tightest circles with bits and handled far more abuse than my Milwaukee one. As always, awesome videos!
I’d really love to see some tests done comparing 1/2 drive to 1/4 hex adapters. To see which is really the best. There aren’t many videos out there comparing or even previewing them.
