CNO and MCPON celebrate Thanksgiving aboard USS Harry S. Truman

- Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Russell Smith visited the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) on Thanksgiving in the Mediterranean Sea. While aboard, CNO and MCPON celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday serving dinner to the crew, re-enlisting 22 Sailors in the ship's hangar bay, and personally recognizing the more than 5,000 Sailors deployed aboard Harry S. Truman.
Since deploying in April, the crew aboard Harry S. Truman has flown combat operations in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, conducted numerous bilateral training events, operated above the Arctic Circle, and participated in Exercise Baltic Operations 2018 and Trident Juncture 2018 - all while flexing the U.S. Navy’s dynamic force employment strategy. And, despite not being home for the holidays, this Thanksgiving was full of good cheer and high morale.
Currently operating in the U.S. Sixth Fleet area of operations, Harry S. Truman will continue to foster cooperation with regional allies and partners, strengthen regional stability, and remain vigilant, agile and dynamic.

ADM Richardson seems to be an awesome CNO! I truly admire all of our Sailors, but especially the ones who serve away from home ANY time of the year. I have a buddy who is a bubblehead (submariner) Chief(ETR) and he has spent more time at sea over the past 16 years than he has with his kids. But true US Sailors understand that their responsibilities protect ALL children in this country, including mine and their own. For that, I am forever grateful for those who serve honorably.

If that's meant to be a swipe at Trump, I wonder if you realize there's few more solidly Republican demographics than the military, including women and ethnic minorities. If the President had visited the carrier for Thanksgiving, he'd have gotten a warm welcome....especially if he brought the First Lady with him.
I worked for ADM. Richardson before he was CNO. He’s one of the hardest working and accomplished officers I’ve ever met, and as a former Submarine sailor, I have tons of respect for him. Much more respect than any politician or current leadership in the Whitehouse.
It doesn’t matter to me what his political affiliation, nor do I intend to know what it is, but to take time off his busy schedule to visit the men and women of the world’s greatest Navy during thanksgiving when they’re away from their families doing the job they swore to do, that’s what true leadership is. 🇺🇸
@Greg If I remember correctly he didnt want to go to Dover and see the casekets of dead soldiers he sent Pence and went to Iraq

Still remember when the CNO and MCPON flew out to the USS Kitty Hawk in the Persian Gulf in 1996 - MCPON joked with me as he awarded me my ESWS pin - I already had Aircrewman Wings and EAWS. Back then we were in pressed dungarees - we didn't have coveralls. The CNO later popped into the ASWModule, surprising us at 0130 during the night-shift - turned out our Div O was one of his old RIOs - and safely tucked away in his RACK .

THESE ARE OUR NAVY SAILORS AND MARINES, ULTIMATE PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH! Military wasn't for me, though I worked along side with many of them. Sometimes wish I had served in the best navy in the world the USN!! A lot of us civies work long shifts but not 12+ hours 24/7 for 5-10 months at sea away from our loved ones!!? God bless our sailors and marines!!
