- Welcome to the first episode of our new series: Behind the Scenes at the HCSO. This episode is about Food Services in the jail, which is responsible for making more than 1,200 meals per day for inmates ... and manages to provide good, nutritious meals for less than $2 per inmate per day. We will be bringing you new episodes every month, so check back for more!
My buddy told me everybody loved when camera crews were around because they knew the trays would be proper. I bet that dont eat like that every day.
Yeah I remember being Locked up when I was 15-16 in jail. We’d have higher ups come out to look at the facility and assess everything. And in those days we had fucking greasy bbq wings and all this good stuff. As soon as they left back to garbage trash
A lie... 4real4real...
This video was made by the in-house staff, who just showed up and started taking video. Nothing special about this meal.
*They.... not that..
@@BigManJevnikar lol 😂
I bet those nice looking meals where just for the cameras.

Cry more lib!
Yeah fr anyone who has ever been in jail in America knows that this kinda stuff is for good PR nothing more
@@HighlandsCountySheriffsOffice you have got to be kidding. Jail food looks nothing like this. It's all mushed up foods with meat that is labeled " not for human consumption" I'm seriously angered that this video was made making it seem like prisoners are fed well when in reality the food is atrocious. I did 15 days in county and couldn't eat anything except for maybe the cakes. Thank God for canteen.
@@jasonmccord9778stay out of trouble and you can eat ANYTHING you want.
I am 100% confident that this is all for the cameras. Of course they're gonna say that food is filling and nutritious. We all know the truth.
As someone who been inside, those trays look legit. The quantity is more important that taste.
Its different at different prisons
The nutritionist just literally seeing the bear minimum to keep them alive but keep them on low energy
Did dude just get two plates😂😂😂😂
Yep, meaning one person can go without
Most likely for someone in a wheelchair
Beating the deuce.

@@SophieJackson1993 beating the duece is something we say around my way. Va 703. Just funny as hell to see it commented on.
One of the women I was incarcerated with dropped her cup and broke it. They wouldn't give her another cup, so one of us gave her a bowl, which held more anyways. Solidarity; we ALL started using our bowls. Good Times.
Hell yeah! Help a fellow inmate out!
bruh. That intro nearly took down one of my walls.
A hungry inmate is a dangerous inmate.
The inmate can just ask the officer for a tray of food that he/she didn't get because someone stole it.
Don't say the name of the thief just be honest that you didn't get you're food.
Well they were dangerous to get themselves into jail in the first place I wonder how their victims are eating If at all
Well dangerous inmates need to be put in the hole
@@confirmhandle some aren’t in there for violence to anyone. Honestly a large percentage of American immates aren’t in jail or prison for violent crimes surprisingly.
@@Ghostkiller108 yeah it’s a shame
Liesss. Prisons don’t care & will definitely leave you hungry, multiple times I had to ask if my bunkie was gonna finish their food.
Yup
“fresh fruit, fresh vegetables many times throughout the year..” yeah, once maybe on the forth of July and Christmas Day. I’ve never seen fresh fucking watermelon?? Have you? I’ve seen mouldy bread and soggy apples. “We make sure they’re not hungry.” Yeah which is why you feed them at 4:30pm right? So they’re starving by 6pm.
@@SophieJackson1993 exactlyyyyy.
Good?
@@hellodarkness5644 can i beat your ass?
Fresh veggies as there’s a cans of green beans in the back 😂
A good meal should be a basic human right , just cause you are a criminal you are still a human being and deserved to be treated as such.
Most jails will leave you starving.
Its not to stave commisrries retired cops they want ur famipies money its politic
When the cameras are there, the food is nice.
When the cameras are there, the cops are nice.
When the cameras are not there …
When the cameras were not there ,the inmates are nice
When the cameras are not there, the inmates eat mice. :/
When the cameras aren’t there,

My girlfriend was in prison She said thats som bs since when do they serve watermelon she said the food they did serve looked like straight slop
When I was younger I served time in Chippewa county, Trempeleau county and Wood county WI. All three of them would leave you hungry. So would Eau Clair juvenile detention center. It is awsome to see what you put into making meals. Trempeleau would have good meals but sometimes you wouldn't get fed. I tried to speak out durring a visit. I was taken off camera and threatened by Officer Joe Clark Trempeleau county sheriff's office. He stated if I ever told someone I would be thrown in a hole and never heard from again. I just wanted to say thanks for the effort you put forth in your jobs. It really does help to keep the jail safer. I have not been in any trouble in years. I have kids and take my life and responsibilities sieorus.
Good man. Keep it up brother
What matters is you are still alive. Stay strong bro 💪
what you did that put you through all that with those bastards, dont ever do it again if you want to continue eating good food and staying strong. Hunger killing you is much worse than any deadly virus killing people right now
Good. You deserved nothing! Be happy they fed you at all LIB!
that's any jail. in general you virgin...
The sad thing is kids in public school are eating the same thing
She doing a great job getting the best deals to make a decent meal for the inmate.
those hardboiled eggs are definitely for the guards
Yup, in county jails they are also served on vegetarian and restricted diet trays.
I just did 6 days in Vista detention center near San Diego. Breakfast at 4am, lunch at 10am, dinner at 4pm. The only drink served out of the three meals was with breakfast. One little carton of milk. Sometimes they would give you a flavored powder packet to mix with water at lunch or dinner but nothing to mix the powder with. So we saved and rinsed out milk carton from breakfast to fill with water from sink in cell. Problem was, our sink in our cell didn't work. It would literally take 20-30 minutes to fill the little milk carton with water from sink. I understand jail isn't supposed to be the Hilton and I understand it's a punishment but damn, what is this? Bagdad Iraq or something? Luckily I had a cool cell mate who had just received his commissary order when I went it and he shared with me. He was waiting to go to prison. When I got out, first thing I did was put some money on his books. Going to jail during coronavirus sucks ass btw. Only let out of your cell every 48-56 hours for 30 minutes to shower or make a phone call. They preach pandemic safety but not once did we get hand sanitizer or anything. Plus our sink didn't work to even wash our hands. Sergeant said that everyone entering jail is on 14 day quarantine unless you bail out or case dismissed. Luckily my shit was dropped. Merry Christmas everyone
You're telling the truth my brother. I did a few days at Rancho Cucamonga jail them was transferred to Aldelanto up hill. Did 5 months. I tell you our trays wasn't even as half full like they show on this vid. The toilet would get backed up. You ask for some attention and they act like you're animals just because you're behind bars. They treat you with no respect at all. Although, they did give out masks but they wouldn't give you a new one til 2-3 weeks later. They're view on safety and cleanliness is totally BS. Happy you were able to get your charges dropped. Stay Blessed!!!
That's messed up ..no access to basic necessary things like water. Glad you are out.
@@abriel6412 thank you. Me too lol
vista jail is nice. and the food is good.
@@ttt69420 u like jail dummy?
They thinking about saving money not feeding them food
Sheriff Office, Thank you for making a difference and using resources wisely while remaining compassionate. God bless you all and yours.
These inmates seem lucky to have someone who cares about what they get fed.
It's bullshit dude lol
@yoashmo Old comment, but I’m sorry to say it was just for the cameras. If you look up prison food on yt there are some real videos of inmates showing their trays, they don’t look like this at all.
People behind this footage should ask themselves if publicising prisons is really a good choice for law enforcement.
I'm not going to jail to find out if she's lying or not!
😂😂
Smart boy.
They lie, that food will always leave you hungry! You better hope you got money on your books or else you will starve everyday till or if you get out, also even if you get money on your books if your in a bad jail like I was you can get robbed by other inmates like I was occasionally
I'm from Columbus Ohio. Our notorious county jail (the workhouse) is among the top 5 worst in the nation I've been told. Our food trays are not fit to feed toddlers let alone grown men. You've heard of the "dollar menu"? Our trays look like they came off the 25¢ menu 😅
Do they have taco Tuesday?
Only in the women's prison.
In NY my cousin was getting yellow bologna… time and time again. It was spoiled he took pictures and got into trouble for the phone but the jail got into trouble and many got fired. They say now it’s good food. I like they take care of the immates because they are still people. Some made a stupid mistake and they deserve to eat right. Ty for all you guys do
I've been to jail a few times. You pretty much get the equivalent of dog food.
That lady sounds awesome
They are lucky to have a system that fed them right unlike other countries that you'll go skinny fast
"Astounding" to feed prisoners for $1.80 a day huh? I bet. You know who else finds it astounding? The prisoners.
lmfaoooo facts, some, not most but some dont even deserve life let alone hella food
They clearly did this for the camera AINT no way in hell
If our entire jail and prison system would implement a FOOD REFORM program and upgrade the quality of food for the detainees and prisoners, there would be far less violence and health issues for them. Bravo to this Sheriff for the job he is doing.
Even if you didn't buy wholesale, these are still apparently full meals for under $1 each. You should share the recipes. It seems like a good use of cheap but fulfilling and nutritious ingredients.
They're claiming the meals are made for 60 cents each which isn't even remotely possible no matter where they source their ingredients. they're lying
@@JS-wp4gs I've been a chef for over 20 yrs, mainly hospitals and rehabs. I can tell you with certainty you are talking out of your ass. Depending on your suppliers and menu it's not only possible but can be done cheaper than quoted.
Food is not like this in jail. Not even close
@@JS-wp4gstotally false, when you buy in enough volume you can get things for 90% less than buying only one of something. Bulk repeat buyers keep many farms alive and the volume of purchasing makes the discounts worth it
All inmates you tubers talk about how bad the food was.
Big herc never really boast about it. He said it’s actually something the prison system actually gives you generously.
first plate i got half way through i swear my throat was closing up like nahh dont eat this
The food is horrible usually inmates don’t eat that shit we make breaks .
Not suppose to show the food of a jail. I promise you that jail tightened up there kitchen for this film
Those dinner trays looked fire as fuck honestly
Free, too...
@@ARon82 not free if you’re on work release. You’ll be paying for everyone else.
They aren’t there warm on one side cold underneath
ah so thats why criminals keep offending and going back in, the meals in here were made by the savoy hoteliers
I think its' always better to have an actual staff prepare the food like y'all do instead of bringing an outside vendor. Companies need to make profit, and often don't care, while an actual staff takes pride in their work, can get the best deals possible, etc
Aramark and other prison vendors are some of the most corrupt companies on earth.
@HCSO I could be mistaken but is that the Plastocon Classic, BMC-13? Solidly designed tray. I like the design and heft of the Supermax, DHT-6, as well.
Search up Badd Bob's Prison Life, yt channel if you want to see how real prison/jail food looks.
I’ve had some pretty fucked up jail food. This didn’t look too bad. I bet you need two trays to feel full though.
salad pbj sandwich n turkey sandwich where’s this jailhouse at? beverly hills?
props goes to that lady putting the effort into making those meals look good
She sounds like a very good executive chef 💯
better food than school lunches XD
Lol
I did 90 days in Duval County jail back in the early 1990s. I got on the kitchen crew almost from day 1.(I was a line cook at a popular steak house). I used to load up the trays as much as I could get away with, cause I remember getting the trays that couldn't fill the stomach of a field mouse.
My ex-wife must have got a job cooking in a prison
Typical my behind! If you get 2 mains on one tray, you are blessed!
The Intro woke my baby up
I heard when some inmates from Highlands County got transferred to Polk County Sheriffs Office Jail due to renovations at Highlands jail they were not happy with the food at all in Polk County lol
So how come they can't have that for poor kids in school ?
Back in my jail days all I can say is if you aren’t getting commissary, you’re starving. I was lucky my mom always kept me fed, but there were many times I would go into jail, not be able to get to the kiosk because of either detox or the fact I didn’t have my account set up (every time you go to jail you get a new inmate number, meaning new account) so I would have to wait to order, then once I did order I would have to wait a week for it to arrive. The first couple days you’re alright but after the 4th or 5th day all you’re thinking about it food. I’m a picky eater and I ate things I would have never ate on the outside just because I was so hungry. Honestly, if you’re a convicted criminal you deserve the punishment but for someone who’s pretrial and therefore technically innocent, it’s torture.
I can tell you know this is a dog and pony show for the cameras because I've worked in places like this even when the health department comes to inspect they make it look like that's how it is everyday. And it's not the bosses put on a good show, and after they leave, it goes to being half assed. I worked a year as a Food Service Supervisor for Trinity Services Group. These are some of the most hostile work environments. You're sometimes better off having the job of a correction officer. Sometimes, you're understaffed or don't have enough inmates to get the job done. And the inmates like to steal anything they can get.
All gotta say is these meals look pretty good to be prison food. The lady over the meals they eat seems to be a really caring nice lady about what they eat, so they are very lucky at this prison
In the Jefferson County jail in Missouri the Bologna has a lovely green sheen and is very slippery. Do you serve such a delicacy?
Humans need food, air, water, clean places, love, and medical care alongside education and training. We need stimulation to grow and rules with understanding. If you take this away from an inmate, you will have issues inside and out. We send them there to be reformed and not tortured, regardless of their crimes. In case you think I am too pro-inmate, a person touched my 8-year-old daughter, and I don't wish him a tortured life. He needs to be reformed to make him understand the rules apply to everyone. My daughter is in therapy and with my help, I don't classify her as a victim of S.A., but a survivor of an act not appropriate for her age. He is still a human being and mistakes are made. If a woman would help him out, he would not be so prone to do these sorts of things. We need understanding and not hate or hurt. Thank you all and love and respect each other, any other way is not worth it.
😂
It's a meal like lunch or dinner or breakfast
We need her to be superintendent of school lunches .
Guess they've NEVER see those boxes marked " not for human consumption"
Any middle class or working class citizien would KILL for a healthy, filling 3 day meal that only totals $1.80 a day.
she might bring drugs or cell phone pay attention to her move
She does I can tell
They’re only doing this for the cameras
That so called cake is hard as a brick.
Yeah. Chipped my tooth on one of these. Hurt like hell.
Im not gonna go to jail...i like my food and freedom, i shouldn't put myself in the situation to have that happen, my choices equals my consequence
Jails only act right when camera crews show up
reminds me of my junior high lunch even ketchup was made there it was terrible but I was hungry and never complained it can be a lot worst!
I've been in jail in nine states I never got a tray like that! Still never been to prison!
What about vegetarians?
Well if those so called vegetarians kill innocent people then they should be thrown to the lions and tigers
"The most impressive part is they feed them for less than 2 dollars a day" I uh don't think that's as impressive as you seem to think
You mean if you treat people with respect, you get it back? Unbelievable
That disgusting bologna should be considered cruel and unusual punishment. How many people have vomited trying to eat it? What crap is even in it?
Cruel and unusual punishment? Then m@+haf@$kas dont do no crime if you guys gonna complain about prison food it aint ur 5 star restaurant fool its prison its punishment
@@Lcky-gu2gi I was being sarcastic you ding dong. I’ve never it tasted or been in prison, but it sure looks disgusting. A lot of people who have been in jail and prison have not committed a crime, but have been falsely accused, by the way. With your logic there should be no standards regarding food. Bologna is not even healthy for you, by the way, and to be served it to people three times a day will probably increase their risk for cancer. It has nitrates in it and a ton of chemicals.
This must be the jail where the rich and famous people go. Ain't no jail or prison serving this kind of food to regular inmates. This is just a front, because the camera crew is there.
Beans & Rice would be better than a constant stream of sodium laden cold cuts. 😮...and $1.00 a day to boot.
Normally I'd laugh, however, anytime the media shows, you're going to see a nice trey of quality food and the quantity will be more than sufficient. I'd also add this prison is lucky to have Miss Thomas as the head of the kitchen. I'm sure she orders the best you can get with such a miniscule budget. Jail food is ten times worse than prison food, however, a lot depends on who's running the kitchen. This place lucked out but hopefully she's not in prison too long. She should open her own little food truck when and if she's ever released. The county wouldn't turn a permit application down from her. I think if anything, they'd encourage it. She could even park it out front of the courthouse lol. The food trucks outside those places make bank.
She should create some training and resources to provide this information to other jails.
That is a funaminal straight for as the police officer said good food and a healthy portion avoids fights protests, and potential harm to county jail inmates and even correctional officers is a wonderful reality and overall responsible way of enacting a form of violence prevention the said thing is that the majority of all other county jails actually have incompetent nutritionist who are actually more interested in conspiring with jail and medical staff to cause their jail inmate population to remain hungry with for the most part terrible looking and tasting food, whereon said officials objective is to make their jail populations suffer from constant hunger with food with little to no nutritional value, that with a cost of about 10 to 30 dollars to feed each county jail inmate, verses the 180 in the above video for what appears to be 9utstandinf food.
I was in county for about 2 weeks once and not once was I like worried about the food. There was that one guy though that used a book to heat his lunchmeat. I mean he tore the bookup but putting balogna on ink isn't healthy especially if you put it in the microwave.
That guard said it right. You feed them enough and make it at least acceptable or you have riot's. The hardest prison in the USA ADX in Florence is supposed to have some of the better food in quantity and quality in the federal system even though all feds follow the same menu's. They don't want food riot's
I'm so happy not to be eating that stuff no more I don't know how people eat swole in the streets I can't do it
Somehow prison food is still better than School food
Johnny Tootmiester did his time here
Until someone puts glass in the potatoes lol
Wonderful video thank you for sharing
I guess this county is good cause I've been to alot of counties in Texas and I was always hungry. 😆 🤣 😂
Imagine prison food for the rest of your life
You might not be happy but the one feeding you on it is. Think of all the money they get to save "sourcing local produce from the trash"
Lol don’t do the crime don’t do the time!
Lmao reading the comments!!!!😂😂😂😂
It's sad they feed prisoners better than school lunches
Don't like the food, stay out of jail ..
I’m sorry I just don’t believe that you actually gave them 2 sandwiches most jails get 1 like when they make actual meat like fish they get 1 small piece each…like 🧍🏼♀️
I don’t understand the comments at all. It’s JAIL we all know the laws simply don’t break them if you want the freedom to eat what you want and how much of it you want. Be grateful you are getting anything. It’s a deficit to everyone else to provide free meals when most working class who have families are going hungry themselves 🙄
Fresno county jail u get a bag breakfast no lunch and a tray for dinner
I hope in the Philippines the prison food will be like this
Love that diarrhea mystery "meat".
It cost less to fed 400 inmates but we as good citizens pay over 2-300 for food
So
IKR?! They offering all these free food that even contains meat to these inmates as if it's a reward or as if it's a 5 star hotel when most people out here never have that kinda food!
What about not feeding them at all?
dat's de hotel food right dere. mmmhh yeah I am moving in
