Bills are what keep people stuck doing work they don't care about. I don't make a lot of money, but I find that I am able to travel freely and pretty much eat whatever I want, see concerts, go to the movies, and buy things for myself because I don't have a ridiculous house or car payment. My biggest bill is my car insurance which is $115 a month so $1380 a year! Just cut my gym membership which was $450 a year. Instead just going to do more hiking, jogging, and buy a set of weights for home.

I'm down to $23 per month with metromile. Granted, I only have liability and I don't drive that much. Before that I had Geico at about $45 per month. Geico is a good company though for taking care of incidents.

You may be able to reduce your car insurance if you accurately report the miles you drive. Many people tell the insurance company they drive 20k miles per year when actually they may not. If you only drive 10k miles per year that can reduce your insurance cost.

My husband and I decided to go carless about 2 1/2 years ago. Just last week someone tried to give us a car, and we turned them down because we don't want the bills associated with having a car. Plus I like the reduced stress from having fewer possessions. Sometimes this lifestyle is difficult simply because people don't get it, but perhaps that is some of the appeal as well.

It's not that great of a place but it's in a decent neighborhood. Car is paid off. Car insurance is $107 a month. Netflix $15.28, two phones $125 a month. Spotify $10 month. Storage payment for our travel trailer (long story) $100 a month. We plan on in the next year moving into our travel trailer and doing some traveling out west. Boondocking is FREE!!! We are saving for a truck first as our Jeep just won't pull up mountains.

Preach! Bills are basically gatekeepers of luxuries. I consider a roof over my head, fresh water and warmth a basic one (in a civilization). Every other - added on top - creates more weight. When you realize what you truly need is less than the society is selling you - you can unload and carry on with more bucks in your pocket. Many small presents and unique experiences can be unlocked that way. Capitalism needs to create a feeling of being inadequate and "less than" to sell product. Live true to yourself and avoid sheep mentality! Great video! 👽

Then last year I gave my truck back to the lender, then lost my job a short while after. Getting rid of that truck (and losing that job) changed my life! 😌🙏🏼 I used half of my tax return last year to buy a cash car that needed a little work & my boyfriend and I did the repairs ourselves. My car insurance is $70 now and gas is maybe $40 a month 😄 Not having a real schedule has given me the freedom to take my kids on a few really cool trips using my savings and to be able to put my 8 year old son with Autism into an intensive therapy program halfway across the state that he otherwise wouldn’t have been able to do when I was working (currently getting unemployment). 🙌🏽 Never would have been able to do this with my previous bills!

I encourage you! YES! I was there too. My plan was to get rid of student loans in five years......I had $52000 accumulated from university. It went down to $12000 in 4 years.....and now, I can't wait for next year. One more year of payments and it will be over! Even though I was a straight A student and got Bachelor's and Master's degrees in International Administration, I could not find a job for almost 10 years after graduating. Seriously, I could not get a job even as a dish washer nor a fast food server! I did what everyone else told me to do: get a student loan and study hard and be the best student, and life will be easy and money will come! But it did not work that way. Nobody ever cared for my degree. So, I don't do anymore what everyone says, I think for myself and decide for myself what I need in life. But that student loan was soooooo huge! And I am about to finish paying it off. One year is left for me! Gosh, one year, and I will free myself from being a slave to Sallie Mae! And I can wipe my behind with those diploma's as they took so many years of my life...........When I finally pay my last payment, I will celebrate for sure! It will be my first day of freedom! And I encourage you to not deviate from your plan. Keep paying, give yourself small rewards for paying off big chunks. One day you'll be free from debt you will feel sooooo unrestrained, like a flying bird high in the sky.... Don't lose hopes and just keep going!

Honestly I'm sick of the "grind".
Right now we own a house, 2 vehicles, and 2 kids in school. Its a very expensive life. On a good note, I am a self employed roofer so I have some degree of control over my schedule. But it can be very tough, I find myself pulling away from my work more and more to do the things I enjoy instead. Life is too short to just work it away. I need to take care of my family, but I definitely don't want to slave for the almighty dollar any more than necessary.

My husband and I are planning on living in an RV to kill our bills. once there, we'll invest heavily with the money that would have gone to bills. 😇 ofc I'll also have an 110 lb dog, but he's worth it 👌 my life would have no meaning without pets. 🐶

Best video I have ever seen about killing your bills. I do have some bills, but I had surely more.
I have rent (very cheap one), home insurance for my studio apartment, electricity bill, basic 4G plan on my phone 1 Mb/s for cheap and music subscription to Google Music. I had Netflix, but I canceled it 3 Years ago when I sold TV out.
I am now full 3 Years without TV and Netflix. I found to watch on Netflix very few movies a month, so I overpaid for something I never cared to open most of the time. My rent reduces bills - water, sauna included, everything gets fixed etc.
My home insurance is lowest one. Because my payment fee if something happens is €250 instead of €150 - so you pay less - because if something happens you will pay for that issue more. So it's pointless to pay more.
Unless you are really poor who can not afford that when problem will occur.
I am minimalist, this made me go loco with my decisions, I have basically only 4 bills coming to my bank and one from my Debit card. I found internet to be cheap in general, but it hooks you for sure if you'll pay for speed.
I had 50 Mb/s, I used to watch RUclips instead of going out. Now I have slow internet, I still can watch RUclips and listen music, read blogs - but I save €10 a month and have real life instead of Online life.

I have a lovely job and I'm a live-in helper for my mother. I offered rent, but Mom refused. I do most of the housework, run errands, and generally assist her anyway she needs. She's still in pretty good shape, just needs a bit of help now and then.
I usually don't eat out, but I may start, once a month a local church sells take out lunches which raises money for their different ministries in the community, such as a food pantry -- that I like, I can help out and still get some yummy food for much cheaper than a restaurant.
I will however eat out a bit more, maybe every couple of months, I don't drink alcohol, and I really don't get to socialize much. One of my co-workers and I used to split the cost of a large pizza, and she took some home to her husband. So we may start that again.
Also finding inexpensive clubs to join -- often they have refreshments, so that's an option.
Also for the last four years I have gotten a membership at our local pioneer village. One admission is $18, one full access, unlimited visits costs $55 for a year. Way better, and it's a nice place to get away from hussle and bustle of the modern world.
I'm finding ways to cut back on groceries, and really not spending very much except on things that I really want or need.
Great video Timothy, great thoughts, thanks for posting.

We switched our phone plan from 125 a month contract to 50 a month prepaid. No more overage charges or strange charge surprises. We got rid of internet/cable and took old hobbies back up instead. We save 200 a month just from these two changes.
It's hard to stay motivated so we made a list of money we've saved by not buying things. A new espresso machine is 80 bucks, so we saved 80 by not buying it. It helps to see the money we would've spent start adding up. Reminds us how purchases take away from savings.
I know how silly and basic that sounds, but a lot of times we spent money because it was there. We didn't see that connection between buying and our lack of savings. We would just wonder where all the money had gone and start looking toward next payday to "fix" it.

I think that once you don't have a 50 hour work week you have the time to find out how to get things for free and basically exploit the offers out there that you just don't have time to deal with when you are working. I liken working to being on like the jet stream that you can get out of... for instance the only time you have to buy groceries is the weekend, when everyone else is doing that, so you don't have the time or space to find good buys or good cuts of meat, you just have to grab what you can and get out of there... but once you get off the jet stream there is this whole world.

Followed Dave Ramsey's Baby Steps in order to kill my debts and (in your words) put my bills on life support. You're right about work as well. Now that I live below my means, going to work has a completely different feeling. I like the industry I'm in but there's a lot of things I don't like about my current job. I stay there now because there are some things I like about it and for the time being, I'm able to continue putting money away for the future. The feeling that if something happened and I walked in there tomorrow and either quit or got let go but I'd be completely fine financially is such a liberating feeling.
