I grew up in a town of 100,000 just southeast of Dawson (circa 1972) I live in the suburbs of Atlanta now. After 40 years have to deal with traffic here, I would love to move to a small dirty town like this.

This is my hometown and Its definitely peaceful and everyone for the most part come together as one. We don’t have a lot of restaurants but then you have US as people who support one another so we help each other by supporting the community business. As a child we were able too be just that children go as we pleased. Over the years yes housing has went down tremendously but it’s home. The crime has went up a little more than we have expected but we get through hard times like that together. It’s really not a bad place

The appearance of a place does not mean it's bad but the appearance makes people wonder why , they don't take care of the property they live in. It does not matter if a home is small or old but people should learn to take pride in their homes to make it look clean and cared for. There are many places all over the US that looks uncared for, unkept with trash in the yards , houses that need just some tlc. It makes a big difference on how people feel . If a place looks bad, it's just a normal reaction to think that the place is bad because of it. Cleanliness is next to Godliness. I don't care if one rents or owns it if a place is small or large, but people should take care of the places they live in.

This Person Just Rode Through The Areas Where Old Houses Were And Hardly Anyone Stays In Them Areas. We As A Town Love Each Other. Like Pac Say We Might Fight Amongst Each Other But I Bet You Can't No One That's Not From Here Come Here With The Bs. One thing About Our Town Is Small and Ran Down In Some Places BUT THE LOVE FOR OUR CITY IS BEAUTIFUL ALL OVER. WE LOVE DAWSON GA IT'S OUR HOME TOWN AND WE ARE PROUD TO BE FROM DISCO CITY

As he drives by every house I try to put myself in the shoes of the people that had to live there and what it was like. At the best and worst times. I think the overgrowth of the south city's compared to our home town Detroit is what's different and separates us. But we do have that kind of spaced out grassy areas an fields where the grass an trees have over taken the houses. That's what gives it character. Love to see the differences. Stay blessed yall

I was born and raised there. I can tell you that about 98% if those homes are rentals owned by a couple of prominent business men in the city. I noticed he panned away from the nicer homes on those streets or kept riding up and down the same ones in different directions. Anyway, Dawson is on of the best kept secrets in S.W. Ga. when it comes to quiet country living and affordable property. However the poverty level is high. Like most areas jobs have shut down or relocated.

I love Georgia. Some of the kindest folks in the world live here. Sure, in this clip, the houses might be run down, but that could very well be because the government wastes money on helping people in other countries when it really should be taking care of its very own citizens. Hardworking American citizens deserve to be helped. How many well paying jobs are in this area? How is the educational system? I have a good idea-and it is dismal. More jobs need to be brought into our very own communities; more after school programs that provide tutoring in math, English, and science need to be provided to us in these communities. Truth is I grew up in an area not too different from this one back in the 1970s. We helped each other as neighbors; I actually miss the feeling of community. People would drive through and roll up their windows, wide-eyed, thinking they were in danger. We were just decent, hardworking folks that didn't have a whole lot of money. Lack of money doesn't mean a person is bad or lazy; it sometimes means they don't have the resources to fix their place up. Charlie, I would like to see you present your research to Congress; our politicians are our employees and they are failing us. They work for us, yet they do nothing for us. If I performed my job the way politicians do their job I would have been fired a long time ago! Thank you so much for exposing poverty in the United States. (P.S. the South isn't dirty; it is quite lovely, and it has the best people in the world). Of course, I am right partial to the South since it is my beloved home. Thank you.

I grew up in the ghetto to, so I'm use to seeing neighborhoods looking like that. But what I don't understand is how a country so rich allow any part of their cities to get this bad. Well where I'm from we complain so much that they are renovating our part of the city now and it's starting to look a lot better, plus more businesses are starting to come back to the neighborhood, which is generating more money into the community. I hope that their city council will start cleaning, and building up in that community, because it's sad how a Country so rich would allow a group of people to live so poor. The hate need to stop.

I'm curious, what were you hoping to accomplish by your false and biase video of my hometown. There a public official might openly ask you for money. Not so here. Such an act would have them facing a judge. Instead we allow the wealthy to donate large sums of money to those who govern us. They then serve their benefactors instead of those who voted them into office. In other words here it's legal corruption. Each time I visited I noticed improvement. The day will come, my thoughts only, when Africa will become one nation whereupon the west will have to give it a place at the table. It is filled with old houses probably built in the latter part of the 19th century or very early 20th century and the owners have passed on or might be in a nursing home and there's no one to see after the houses and land. I did not see one piece of police crime scene tape or the police at a neighborhood disturbance. There was not an area packed with so much filth where a special meeting has to be called for health reasons.
If you want to see abandonment, dirt, and filth, then come to Philadelphia where a huge part of the city is like that. Can't no one say Philadelphia is a forgotten city. I live two blocks from a main college campus and four blocks away is an entire vacant housing project with two empty high rise buildings. I'll gladly take one of the houses in Dawson, Georgia and have the necessary repair work done to make it livable or I might even take one as is and go from there.
