    I bought the Silverbac 3 or 4 years ago. I had been shopping around on the internet and settled on this. Mine doesn't have the 2 modes but I can upgrade for $130 dollars. What swayed me to getting this unit was the price and warranty. They ship for free. I live about 20 minutes from the factory/store so I just stopped in and bought it. They actually gave me more goodies because I picked it up. When I go there sometimes Mark has waited on me. Very nice guy. If you have a problem and call them chances are you will talk to Mark. Very good customer service. They also have a smaller unit called the chimp. If you like ceramic they have the kong. They just came out with a gas grill the primate. Prices are very good for their products. All I can say is I like my smoker. Very easy to maintain. Built well.

    I actually purchased a Silverbac based on your and many other reviews about 3 years ago. I’ve been happy with the smoker, no flame outs, all the mechanical parts are still working fine. My only complaint is the internal thermostat. This pellet smoker runs much hotter than it indicates. If I set the smoker temp at 225 a secondary probe placed at grill level consistently reads 50-70 degrees higher. I realized this after my first few cooks finished much quicker and the meat was a litter dry. This is true with the new wireless controller.

    • @SlapYoDaddyBBQ
      @SlapYoDaddyBBQ  7 месяцев назад

      Easy fix. Just set it 50 degrees under what you want so if 275F is desired, keep the setting at 225F. Most of my pellet grills are a little off. Usually hotter than my set temps

    Somehow I missed your videos a year ago on this Grilla Grills.
    I was pretty busy with work about a year ago.
    Very happy to see you cooking Grilla!!!
    I first bought a silver back when they first came out with them. I’ve ran a lot of family dinners through that smoker!
    About a year ago I picked up their OG model it seems to give a little bit smoke your flavor I ordered it with the older alpha controller because I feel that I do not need all the high tech stuff. I don’t even have Wi-Fi at my house. I’m not a tech guy.
    A run Smoke Ring Pellets through my Grills . Absolutely love, my. Grilla’s!!!! there are a lot of bang for your buck if you look at the gauge of steel and quality of build. I’ve cooked six pork butts at 21° below zero the thing performed very well in cold weather!!! Without the use of blanks!!! it’s in another league above Traeger and pit boss type big box store smokers. Unless you purchase a Traeger that is over $1200 you’re wasting your time. I even owned a Grilla chimp.
    I had the gorilla chimp on a job site and the foreman told me that I wasn’t going home with the chimp. He liked it so well, he paid me for it and brought it home to his house. that’s when I purchased the OG. I still miss my chimp!!!
    Hopefully someday they build a suitcase style tailgate pellet cooker .
    The chimp was a little heavy for me to transport by myself add 100 pounds when it was full of pellets.

    • @JackCook70
      @JackCook70 4 года назад +4

      @@stenny1970 Mode 1 works like most every other pellet grill. It keeps the temperature pretty constant, and allows you to do things like jerky and baking. Mode 2 allows for more temperature swing, so the cooker produces more smoke. Most everything I cook is on Mode 2 with Hickory pellets. Excellent smoke flavor. Makes for killer pork butts, ribs, burnt ends, just about everything. Look at Grilla Grills here on RUclips.

    Great review, looking forward to part 2. I just ordered the Silverbac a few days ago. During November Grilla had a promotion where you got 2 20 lb bags of pellets, 2 spice rubs and a bottle of bbq sauce with the Silverbac but I think that ended Nov 30. Also, they are developing a WiFi controller that you’ll be able to run from an app on your phone but it’s not yet ready for distribution. Current owners will be able to purchase the WiFi controller at a reduced cost when it’s available.

    I have a Grilla Grill Chimp and a cheap Smoke Hollow from Bi-Mart. I enjoy using both for their own benefits. Chimp is efficient on pellets and great taste, but the 19 pound brisket hung over the drip tray. I cooked on Smoke Hollow grill for 8 hours to shrink the brisket then moved over to the Chimp after I wrapped it. 👌 Smoke Hollow has the real-estate for party size cooks.
    Anyways, I loved the thought of the Weber Smokefire and was excited for it. Then it came out and had some problems and I was bummed. Have the said "bugs" been fixed if there was a problem? Would a Silverback be a safer investment? I'm undecided.

    One test I would like to see is how grills compare in terms of efficiency of pellet use. Would be interesting to do a test like heat a unit of water with and compare how many pellets were used. Also to cook a comparable cut of meat - same weight - and see how many pellets were used. I wonder, for example, does the double wall help pellets last longer? (Or maybe since you care more about the smoke, it does not matter..?)

    • @SlapYoDaddyBBQ
      @SlapYoDaddyBBQ  3 года назад +1

      You must be a scientist or product tester by trade? :-) You need a lot of pellet grills and a lot of effort to run such tests. I live in SoCal so the double wall effect, I suspect, is not a big factor!

  • @karupsion
    @karupsion 3 года назад +1

    Looking into this grill and interesting with the hot spot test. I also noticed that the heat/hot spots are were on the edges where the foil pans did not cover the bottom. Do you think having the extra pan underneath may cause uneven heat distribution?

I like the idea of limiting the fuels I purchase. Great Video Harry I'm glad you got this pellet grill, I have had my eye on these, I've been more of a charcoal fan Weber kettle, weber Smokey mountain. I'm interested on how it holds up and ease of use,nothing like an igniter going bad in the middle of cook or auger problems. It seems like they ironed
    Out problems with smoke fire but that is at a different price point. At this price point I think this wins, the accessories are not too expensive, and very functional Front table drip package and rub holder. The one that really is amazing is the multi rack that is used for making jerky. Since I don't have a y tube channel I would like to minimize the amount of cookers. Thanks Harry. Good overview of an interesting grill. I am in the market now for a pellet grill and this was helpful. One question, what size foil pans were you using to fit under the grate.

    • @SlapYoDaddyBBQ
      @SlapYoDaddyBBQ  4 года назад

      Yes they are standard size half foil pans like the ones from Costco or Sams. I found some half height ones from Restaurant Depot that are cheaper so I use the half height ones from now on as no need to spend more on foil pans that you throw away

      most pellet grills work well and the outcome is determined by the skill of the pitmaster.

      @@SlapYoDaddyBBQ agreed, no argument there.. But some make it easier to get good results than others.
      I'll take your lack of endorsement of this smoker as a positive for the gmg, for better or for worse.

    Does adjusting the smoke cap help with making the heat more even?

    • @SlapYoDaddyBBQ
      @SlapYoDaddyBBQ  3 года назад

      I think it will affect the draft or convection current so may make the heating more even. I did not have any issues with uneven heating in my Silverbac

    How do you like your silverbac so far? I just got a pit boss about a month ago and thinking about switching to a silverbac already, I’ve had a few issues already with my pit boss.

    Welcome to Grilla Family! I have had my Grilla Chimp for a little over a year now. I live in Wisconsin and mine sits outide with the cover from Grilla and have had no issues. I cook on it all winter, as low as temps in the teens and it cooks as well as when it is 90 outside. They keep teassing us all with an updated wifi control panel to retro fit all their grills, hope to see it soon.

  • @gl5930

    For anyone thinking about Grilla, read the Amazon reviews, these are crap. They do not hold temps. I didn't know that, just received my grill and it will swing from 40-60 degrees above set temp for no reason. Don't waste your money. Customer service keeps telling me try new pellets, I think the controller is junk. Why didn't I buy the RecTeq like I planned to do, I got suckered by a sale, but I regret this purchase.

    Wow I think you were correct in calling it "primitive". You can get a Camp Chef for the same price with a WiFi controller and advanced smoke settings. Thanks for the great video, Harry.

      Extra electronic gadgets doesn't make it a better grill. There are other differences that make the Grilla stand out. I would rather have thicker steel on the body and lid of the grill than wifi capabilities. Here's a page that highlights some differences between Grilla and others.

      @@SlapYoDaddyBBQ Probably like the Lumber Jack, and Cookin Pellets for them being 100% what wood they are advertised as. So many companies use a lot of filler woods and very low % of actual flavors they are calling their pellets. I understand this on some flavors of wood which could be over powering such as mesquite . GMG pellets are good and I use them a lot since they are available for me locally and I am no longer in the pellet industry.
