Our top story this week looks at the impact of Mumbai's water policy on low-income communities that live in informal settlements. While an affluent south Mumbai household is entitled to about 300 litres per capita daily, informal settlements get only about 15 litres.

Need to move the slum dwellers to areas with piped water, electricity and clean dry homes. If the homes are built they will move. Need fast development to give them their human rights back.

Mumbai GDP is more than Toronto. Most skilled Migrants comes to big cities due to lack of states infrastructure and initative. Revertism required in terms of settlement as per skilled qualifications of these peoples.

Water is our right but using it carefully & saving it also should be our duty and right.
Rainwater harvesting- smart structures are already starting to incorporate this into the building system.
if they harvest rain-water which is gone as floods, then it will be great help. they have o make underground collection, recharge tanks and use pumps. no need to transport water in from far away dams.

I know the government employee was shitting on the Water Mafia is expected but do remember they (water mafia) are created out of a necessity. People don't want morals/ ethically supplied water, they just want water! Instead of looking at those guys in disdain we should accept there is a problem in the current system and should try to mitigate the problem at hand.
Everyone has the right of drinkable water. Great initiative. But what i don't get is why people are not educated about storing underground water. If they get together collect money and build up an underground water storage unit which supplies water to everyone . Wouldn't it be easier actually. I mean India is a tropical land. It may get difficult with Govt. S interruptions and legalities though
The thing is, it can anytime be declared illegal and destroyed by govt.
Govt donot want to build, but they are ready to destroy.

What do you mean by "they"? Do you say the same words for everyone else including the "rich"? Why would you assume they will waste water? Do they usually waste water? They treasure water more than others. That "they" were not given access to water for years is what is wrong!

Do you think the people that have the water connections on their name are the only ones using them?...their entire neighbourhood is using them...and once water usage goes unchecked, it will start getting exploited once they realize that they now have a free aource of unlimited water...

1-"They" include all the people, may be rich or poor.
2- Yes "they" is used for everyone including "rich".
3- I assume people will waste water because I see a lot of people wasting water in my locality.
4- Yes, some people try to save water, but most people don't give a minute concern.
5- Without proper awareness, there are chances that people think that there is no scarcity of water.
I wrote this comment because I just want that with tap water there should also be awareness among people about water scarcity.

@@assassin9763 Don't abuse poor people by singling them out! Rich people waste water as much as poor people if not more! Education is needed for everyone and not only "they".
DON'T call them "slum-dwellers," okay? They are not bats that dwell in caves. You must respect them. You should call them "slum-citizens."
