I know they have lot expense and most probably will have little money left.

Everyone had so much wisdom. Especially the last question "Are you happy right now?", everyone gave such beautiful and deep answers to that. In the end, we all have a choice to find some happiness in our everyday life, despite the circumstances we in. God bless these people 🙏
I remember when I went to NewDelhi in ‘99 to volunteer with some other Americans at schools. And one lady observed & told us “ ya know, they don’t have a whole lot & are poor,, but at least they’re happy” ❤wich I’ll never forget. We could learn from them. I mean just here in the U.S. as 1 of many many people that has to take antidepressants & other meds proves that money doesn’t buy happiness
I was in India earlier this year and was amazed at how friendly and kind so many were and they had nothing.
So much wisdom but not wisdom for high wages.

Finally, Asian Boss found the right track; listening to the poor articulating about their situation so we can be more conscious and well aware of the world and realistic life.
2:33 Amazed by the woman in yellow. She and her husband have a combined monthly income of $180 (which is really only $60 after bills), yet she is happy and content with what she has. Her attitude is admirable, and there’s much we can learn from her.
It's lying to themselves is what it is. Happiness is the only thing they can cling to. I've lived in poverty, there is nothing happy about it. I'd rather off myself than go back to such a shitty situation.

She came from an even poorer village and compared to that the slums might seem great because atleast she can eat. For her sake though its impressive to be contend with what she has, because its not likely to change. Some happiness comes from "but atleast its not as bad as X", but thats not really something that can last forever when you are living in bad conditions
You're right, money doesn't just buy happiness. It lets you live a home not being flooded whenever it rains, access to food, water, healthcare, and not having to beg on the street. All of which CAN bring ease of mind and happiness. If you want to be happy in a rained out shack and begging on the street, please, go ahead and be my guest.

Things are really cheap in India considering what it would cost in west or developed world. $60 dollars would be around ₹5000 rupees. Even though, it might not seem enough, it's enough to enjoy but you have to keep yourself away expensive places and unnecessary purchase.
I stayed in Kolkata for a while and I bought a bigger umbrella for the heavy rain during certain seasons. When I left the city, I thought of giving the umbrella away to someone locally. I went to a poorer area and offered to give the umbrella to many people, but they were refusing to take, I believe out of humility. After about asking 10 different people, one man took it. I learned how humble people are in poorer areas in India that day.
Kolkata is considered one of the poorest cities in India at times but I can assure you they are very lovely people regardless of their wealth...these people walk with corruption in their shoes..we don't really have good political conditions in all of west bengal...we are not the richest but we try to compensate like every other Indian do...if you can..you can visit Kolkata again if you haven't had bad experiences there☺️

there is a bigger problem which doesn't get highlight, most of the poor people came to Mumbai from other parts of country where they faced challenges, they thought things will become better in Mumbai but cost of living is high and standard of living is worse if you are poor. They got work here but there standard of living never improved as Mumbai became more expensive with every year. The only solution I see is developing small cities so with average salary also they can have a better life than this.
China is same with migirant workers problem, but in china the migirant workers come from Less developed provinces and cant get residency so they cant rent or have government assistance so once they finish the project they working on they have to return to their province but many of them don't return and work odd jobs till they find next project to work on and many can't afford rent so they sleep in streets

Mumbai has 30 million population, but just 408 sq km area which can actually sustain just 5 million people..... this is why Mumbai is the slum city of India

So,it is not that the Korean guy is poor he is just poor in comparison to the stds of the nation...

And if a person has capabilities he will rise to the top and rewarding himself as the richest..

@@pikachue602 how can the companies get high profit without the workers which are often not paid enough? The rich gets all the money from the poor. Your chocolate and coffee is farmed somewhere out there and farmers are paid ridiculously low. Your clothes are often made in china or bangladesh and they also don’t get much. And for example, the riches Belgium made in the past was just literally robbing everything from Congo. It always the way, how to get maximun profit as fast as possible with least money spent.
Living here in Mumbai for more than a year taught me many life lessons. Every day I stepped out my apartment and see the slums around me, I am reminded of how lucky I am. Mumbaikers are very VERY hardworking people. They work hard for their family and themselves. The fire and passion burn in their hearts. Despite not having much, they did their best and often times, even bless others with what little they have. Of course, with the city like Mumbai, survival of the fittest may be common yet again and again, I met kindness of these people who had gone hardship doing whatever they could without complains. They are the most hardworking people I ever met. If only, training and opportunities to upgrade their skills would be given more holistically. Mumbai would have grown even more towards the right direction. The rich helps in many ways, sometimes in areas that the poor don't see. I do my whatever I can for my didi, and I hear many stories of my colleague who even sponsor their didi's wedding. So yes, never give up in life. Have hope and keep trying. Stay honest and be kind and you will receive the same in due time.
I love HOW MUCH THEY VALUE EDUCATION...and believe in its ability to transform their lives ❤❤❤ . This attitude can really take India forward. Govt schools need to be made quality education centres
Not everybody can become a STEM intellectual or Business Administrarion major. Those people learn and succeed with their hands, which is why labor unions are crucial.
@@DavidBustamanteda-bu-sa labor unions are already there. Labor laws only work well in countries which have attained high economic growth and overall prosperity through capitalism first... Give me one example which says otherwise !! I will be more than happy to be proved wrong because capitalism creates a cycle of exploitation

@@NARUTO-7764i have seen a bunch of people here in India who have managed to lift themselves out of poverty. Generally, it takes the will to work hard without denying any opportunity and having an open and aware mind. There are various opportunities for informal or formal work. It's important to educate the kids for generational progress.
As bangladeshi who is 20 now im feeling reality. its harsh and brutal. there are people who have lot more than they need and there are people who live in hunger. if its a country like india or Bangladesh the difference is more clear to see. hopelessness is what i see
Nothing to worry about Bungladeshi. You can illegally enter India and live in slums, work as rickshaw puller and make all kind of mess there. Moreover, you can make fake identity certificates to survive in Indian slums 🙂

Well we are outsiders to them. They lived by caste system, and they honor their traditions. The idea of servant only breed servant ingrained in their very lives. Who are we to tell them to live by different standard. If they wanted to, they should abolish their own long traditions. Nothing much we can do.

If there is no education, and the government puts importance on not allowing their citizens to get any, because let's be honest, only with some proper education you can excape from the matrix that is formed, how are these people able to reach to a higher thinking? The rich only benefit from the poor, working class to get even richer. Offering education would unbalance their benefits because people would be able to aknowledge that they can make a difference. And this is not what the leaders of the world want. With knowledge, there is power. Without it, you just stick to the sheep mentality.
@@minyaksayur we honor our traditions but as times have changed most people naturally realized the bad things that were part of them and those things have ofc become an evil in our society.. No one really focuses much on the castes and stuff, even rich/poor, there's a good understanding in us that we're all humans and should be respected.. Best way to stand out today in our society would be by trying to assert dominance or superiority over the poor, it's pretty evident and understood in the society today..
What you'd rather see is the times when some of the habits of some poor people like them affect the middle/upper class in a normal day-to-day interaction like on a public bus, where sometimes they try to "book" their seats by placing handkerchiefs on seats, or would ask you to shift inwards so that 3 or sometimes 4 people can sit over 2 seats, or them coughing drastically without covering their mouth, basic mannerism etc.. It's that we understand that they're poor and have sympathy for that, but no denying that sometimes some of these small things affect our lifestyle too..
I do think so too that no matter how poor you are if you try hard enough and SMART enough, you can break through and make your lives better but at the same time, other than the "caste system" being ingrained in them, I also find them being slightly realistic, I mean if it was actually that easy they would've made their lives better just like that, but there has to be something stopping them from breaking through, is what I feel too.. And people here tend to place little too many expectations on government doing things for them, that mindset needs to change fr even though there's bit of truth in it..

no need for any stereotypes people in India are also rich Just take my example I live in the city of delhi and my parents have a combined salary of $5386 PER MONTH.
1 US $ = 83 Rs
300 US $ = 24,900 RS ( average middle class Indian salary)

My dad works in the army ( in India) and his salary is around 70 ,000 - 75,000 Rs . My dad worked in the army for more than 20 years, that's why his salary is higher . And we come in the upper middle class category.
My both parents come from a very small village... They worked hard to give me And my brother such a privileged life and we're grateful for that . Middle class Indians live their life comfortably in 25,000 rs . And Mumbai is one of the richest cities in india. It's expensive... From rent to buying stuff.

you are so true. in india if a person having a family of 4 people is earning 30,000 rs in a month and living in tier 2 or tier3 cities can happily live his life . as compared to us in india things are cheaper. even after paying rent, groceries and other stuff one can easily save 10000 a month . and yes if you are earning 70-80k than you're considered rich . but in next 5 year things are going to be change drastically . even 1 lakh per month salary will be considered low .
I don't think so 75k per month is upper middle class, it's around the avg middle or lower middle class. Upper would be around 1-1.5 lakh per month
I think U have to have 12-15 lakhs per annum to be considered an upper middle class

The slums in Mumbai are areas which are encroached upon or illegally occupied by some people who in turn have lent it to settlers. Slowly but surely, these slums are getting demolished. All the people who have lived for more than a certain period are given free housing and settled in high-rises. The free 1BHK which these people(squatters) will get is worth 75000 to 150,000 USD.
That means Maharashtra government is not doing enough to bring solution or drive out the encroachers.... For instance I have seen, a beggars begging daily beside the roads of an office building and dirtying around with faces and garbage food thrown around. Not only there, the encroachers building a tent on a footpath in a posh areas and authorities doing nothing about it.. Is really incompetent.

Do you understand what $75000 means? It’s more than 60 lakhs. You mean to say these slum dwellers getting apartments worth 60 lakhs to 120 lakhs? Can you share the link for this news? Please do not post fake news. These poor people are in dire situation so don’t add insult to injury saying them squatters. Because of these “squatters” we enjoy cheap maids, drivers, sweepers and many more. Still they are happy in their own way unlike us.
Thank you asian boss for showing this side of india too. Im happy that india is developing rapidly. But a lot of folks still strugle for day to day needs. It will take 3 decades more.

Any foreigners seeing this comment, let me tell you I am from Mumbai and the people who have been shown in this video are the biggest hypocrites, they have already been alloted flats but still they live in slums and give those flats for rent to different people. Government has tried many time yo redevelop this slum Dharavi but the people here just won't let the government do it.

These are the problems that politicians really should care about. One day, hopefully, India will start a program to improve living conditions, sanitation and environment. There are thousands of new jobs to be created, at the benefits for the nation will be huge.
Don't think new jobs can be create in the current condition when market is already saturated in almost every aspect and every industry. Except the one coming with new semiconductor chip related industry.
There are programmes and redevelopment projects too but these same people protest against it.
@@deepanshu00730 - clearly there is a lot of undone work in India. Either all of that "saturation" could be used far better and more effective or you need even more people to improve living conditions. I was born in Denmark, where we had a lot of slums. During 10-20 years it was systematically erased by public funding in co-operation with private firms.
You should visit (or search for) Indre Nørrebro and Vesterbro in Copenhagen to see what it looked like before and how it has changed today.

They were temporarily resettled in modern flats, until the old buildings had been demolished and replace with new ones including schools, parks and other facilities. But the fact is, that in such areas there are a large mobility: all who can will leave if they are able to. In the old Danish slum areas there was an exchange of about 33% of the population EVERY YEAR. It is a myth that people are against it, but they are caught in a social prison of misunderstood "solidarity" combined with fear.

Because that keeps them alive & living. Can you imagine that being poor and recognizing unhappy feeling both at the same time? And that's what the biggest problem in western world. People in the west are poor and also unhappy.

I can feel their pain, as well as they are really strong inside. They are hard working people. There should be equality in India where people can get basic necessities like education, water, electricity, medical and shelter. As India is growing in terms of economy but not in equality among people. Really disappointed with the government in terms of not having the basic necessities to them. Some of them are really content with their life and it's really inspiring. Thanks to the Asian boss for the wonderful street interviews.
Poor get free ration food ingredients in India, also Government runs free schools and hospitals.
Problem is most of these parents send their little ones to daily labor than to schools and they don't do family planning.
End of the day it depends on the individual as well.

The driver guy said farmers were having an even harder time and were suiciding. Would be great to investigate and do some interviews to some of them Asian Boss?!
Again, they will go and interview famers near Mumbai or Delhi which are not even major farming areas. There are cases of farmers suicides in Vidarbh and Marathwada regions of Maharashtra, state where Mumbai (capital of Maharashtra) is but the reason is, Vidarbha is a very drought prone area.
So, every year, droughts are common to that region, and farming is not suited to be an ideal occupation in that area, it's a big region. They end up taking loans and loans and sometimes from private lenders to repay the previous loans. Burdening with loans, many famers end up taking their lives. Tho situation have improved over time because, the government many times forgives their loans but that cannot be the case private lenders.
Farmers are unhappy yes...but tell me are u happy when vegetables prices more than doubled before some weeks,what about tomato prices?that time people were telling mahangai hogayee...abh jab prices gir gye...toh kisan mar rhaa h?...Kya karna chaiye? prices badhta h vegetables ka toh kisan khush,aur girte toh consumers khush aur kisan mara???hmmm?am I right?

Don't you know why there is a need for minimum support price? A major part of the expense end customers is transportation cost, and guess how our government is directly causing it- Tolls. High tolls everywhere. Many truck drivers barely make enough for fuel after all the toll they pay. Who do you think ends ups with that addition cost?

These are the people who vote for some politician who gives 5000rs during elections. If they choose better one, their slums would have been reconstructed into better buildings.
These are the people who have 3 kids instead of 1/2. They are creating burden in their family by having more kids, if they have 1 kid and plan for education of that kid well, soon as their son/daughter starts earning, they would move out of slum to better part of the city.
Problem with poor people is no one is there to make them understand.
My parents lived in 150 sq ft rented house with leaking roof when they got married. I am only child and my dad worked hard enough to have a MBA graduated Son, 3BHK home and couple of plots in Bengaluru.
I live with my wife in rented 2bhk which is 4kms away from office and already purchsed 2400sqft land to build a home in couple of years.
My dad removed poverty in our family and i removed lack of higher education in my family. That's how we should plan.

This is because you are smart enough and self-disciplined enough to live up to your parents’ expectations. Most children cannot be as outstanding as you. There is actually no difference between them having one, two or three children.

@@oyuyuy The standard of life, quality of goods and services are also high for the same reason. A walled AC costs $400 here. Refrigerator costs $200 here. School Fees is like $300 annually for primary.. Tell the average prices in your country.
@@vedants.vispute77 AC isn't really a thing here to be honest (cool summers and well insulated houses), so I wouldn't know. Refrigerator, $500 and up. All school is free, from primary to university.
This is an insightful interview. Nobody lasts for an extensively long period in the slums. Some have the tendency to even take their own lives as attributed by the mindset that there's no hope left. I do think that the slums are quite literally unbearable and have little to no neccessities that act as basic human needs.
Every human wants to survive. Whether rich or poor there will be some unfortunate people who will unalive themselves.
New urban poor get frustrated more... because they come from villages where they have land and a house...or at least clean environment and a society they can call their own. They feel frustrated in these overpopulated Cities but cannot leave because that's where the work is.

26% of the population in India is still illiterate, which is like 287 million people (the population of Indonesia) who have to depend on their physical strength to meet the two ends. These are the people who will get discriminated and isolated from the main stream of the society. 😢

What point of going yo school to learn when you know you have to work from early age to be able to feed yourself and family, many of them start working from young age don't have time for school
Blame politician for this, ask them why they want to keep a certain section illiterate and poor. I have seen this trend and read dozens of case studies. Our government has always promoted government job as priority than private job which made everyone's life goal same or similar whereas in other countries people would rather go for private than government. I hope youth read these kinds of case studies rather than these nonsense caste census.
The point is, you cannot expect the old people to be get literate, right? It is not like a certain person in his 40s will go to school to get education now?
Lets me get cold and answer the question. When illiterate people will grow old and die, then only the literacy rate will decrease. I guess you understand what I am trying to say.
I like their thoughtful optimistic responses. I think that's what I like about Indians - deep, thoughtful, intelligent, very high class even if they're poor.

Situation is similar in borders countries like Nepal , Bhutan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar ?

@divyanshd3969 Hi, it depends on where you live and which stage of your life you are at....if you are in a Tier 2 / 3 city and living in a parental housing / shared housing with other bachelors during early stage of your career..38k is a great earning per month....
If you are in a metropolitan city living with a family to support and in middle stages of your career, it could be slightly challenging..

France and Germany have an universal healthcare whose some islamic immigrants use and abuse.
But doctors are complaining not enough paid. Salaries are kinda low for nurses.

India has Government run free hospitals and schools where anyone can get admitted. Also Government is distributing free food ration to poor.
It's also interesting to compare to the western world. The western worlds have a totally different set of problems. For example, imagine a kid going through school who hates school, but the kid is forced through peer pressure and social status. It's not just elementary but everyone has to go all the way getting university educations which in some countries are expensive and requires financing. Besides this whole education thing, there's the constant pressure of social media that is harmful in so many ways. Listening to these people, even as poor as they are, they often sound as happy as many of the people I meet who have kept forcing themselves through stuff they never wanted playing the hamster wheel game just so that they can posses material that might as well have had no value to the person but just to please the social circles around them. Like what does it even mean to be happy and successful.
"Imagine hating school and having to be forced to go to school". Education is compulsory for children in india as well, from 6-14. And social pressure to succeed is way higher foe indians and other asians

I just spent 28 days traveling through India and it’s amazing to hear from the people how they feel about their lives. Many of the people seemed happy and I felt perfectly safe wherever I went. They seem to be a gentle, peace loving people. It’s a huge country with 1.4 billion people and many of them seem to have small prospects for gainful employment as the distance between towns is vast so those in the smaller towns and countryside, 64% of the population, don’t have access to lucrative jobs in the cities. These are villages where people are still pumping water out of the ground and gathering wood to cook their meals. They use bicycles and motorcycles (often 3-5 people per motorcycle) to get around. At the same time, they wear the most colorful clothing wherever they go with the women in flowing fuschia, red, green or yellow fabrics embroidered with gold threads. Amazing. It’s a dusty country and I’m not sure the government has set up garbage collection. It left me wondering why the government doesn’t hire the people to keep things tidy. I really do think they could do more for the people because it’s clear people struggle. It’s a beautiful, fascinating country everyone should see at least once in their lifetime.
I've once visited a slum in Delhi and it was also last time I've visited there... I didn't told anybody how are they living but I can assume from there that they are living miserable life... The government is busy in making colonies for government employees and bureaucrats especially in Kashmir valley and in other parts of India... But if they give them better life then their vote bank (giving small money to buy votes will not work?) will not work... There are more people's living in slums than total population of Germany..

Hey there, let me give you the lowdown. India used to be quite the powerhouse with a rich history. You might've heard this tale before - the British, colonization, racism, and their divide-and-conquer tactics. They basically drained our wealth, leading to famines and some terrible stuff.
After we got our independence, we had loads of people but not enough resources to go around. The wealthy got educated, but those who didn't had a tough time without much help from the government. Then we dove headfirst into the world of complicated politics and corruption.

And yes, we've got our share of domestic issues, too, with people squabbling about caste, race, gender, and religion. It's a mixed bag, my friend.

I am wealthy for my country standard and comfortable upper middle class by global standards. (I make about $4K/mo. and own two flats, a small one and a large one). Honestly I think the biggest problem in India that you can see in these interviews: 1. jealous of the rich 2. thinking that you are stuck at whatever level you are at.
Like people are just waiting for the government to take care of all their problems or something. This is why they never get ahead.
In most successful countries, generally people believe that if they study or work hard enough, or are creative / innovative enough, they can succeed, so they all work to make success for themselves. This is the attitude in all the developed countries like Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, United States, Europe, etc.
In India, it seems like everyone thinks nothing will improve anyways and they are just bitter at anyone who does work harder and get rich, and they are just complaining to the government to save them from their problems.
India doesn't have resources main problem.

Actually countries with no resources are usually becoming the most rich. So there is a big problem with India if you don't have resources and you are still very poor.
One thing i realise here we don't have any proper social security system where if someone falls short of finance the person can hope the government help them. Every developed countries like USA or Finland have a security deposit given below a poverty line. Especially Finland entire government structure blow my mind.

Dont just make videos to prove some biased point...U know nothing abt mumbai or abt Indian slums...there are people who have made fortunes From dharavi itself they can literally buy out they will buy out entire of those so called big cities..if I start listing out the entire comment box will fill out...Dharavi is a cycle people make fortunes here and go back or might get stuck here...Slums are not just govt faults its people doings too...Indias democracy is very crooked literally any one can do anything here people have their own laws....In dharabi lakhs of people are employed and there small scale industries too...its current worth is more than some billion...

As someone coming from a "middle class" family ( what would be considered middle class in my region ), I will say that I'm definitely wayy more privileged than this people.

There is something that's massively increasing everyday expenses for basic necessities, that a lot of our people barely think about- the Toll truck drivers have to pay. People barely ever think about it and our government will never address it because they are the direct beneficiary of something that's directly worsening inflation. Especially, since it new expressways are such a big part of their political campaign. They use it for promotion all the time as if its something they are donating but wouldn't let it slip that they are offsetting all of the cost for that directly on to common people by Toll and not from the tax of wealthy like decent countries.
The mega rich travels in flights, the are not driving on the express highway from one end of the country to the other everyday

Seeing these people's issues makes me feel so grateful for what my parents have provided for me, the wealth gap between the poor and rich is just too immense 🥺🥺. The ones born in poverty cannot become rich by simply doing hard work because there are ends to fulfil, unlike those born in middle-class or rich families.

A city with a long history is bound to have underdeveloped areas. Large-scale redevelopment may be necessary someday, but maintenance of basic roads and water and sewage facilities seems to be urgent.
If the government renews each district little by little, areas that are now called slums will eventually become good streets that retain their traditional appearance.

Nah, these people were already offered flats, but many refused and some even rented them to live in those slums again. Recently, Adani (2nd richest guy in India) proposed a plan/project to rebuild the Dhuravi slums, but these people again started protesting against it. Well, the reason is these places offer them free place to practice their small-scale business, if they move to other parts, their business may come to sight and they too have to follow orders, get permits pay taxes, buy land, shops for new business and industries..... So, I hope you get the deal.
But again, this just Dhuravi. 80% of India is not like that. What the problem is, people who come to survey India just restrict themselves to smaller section of the cites mainly near Mumbai, Delhi belt. and presents improper, and incomplete reports. Like literally, don't think anyone came to my city or state for survey, since my birth or even my parent's birth.

tbh poor people need to know alot about how to earn money legally... most of them are not aware and that's the biggest loss they have... it's difficult to think about earning that much when you live in such conditions but huge amount of people come out of poverty too in India... My dad grew up in somewhat poverty living in a village in deep India but now he has established a good life good enough that we can afford foreign trips too every now and then... again credit is easier today in India than it was... bussiness is easier today than it was in the past... these people need to find a way out it's much more difficult in many other countries...

Slums are result of economic growth. That city actively provides work for people that's why people migrate there. Since they can't afford land they live in shacks. Slums doesn't equal poverty. They might be worse off in villages where from they started k? Urbanization is key to economy growth. Even a 10th grader knows this.
I don't understand one thing why they spent so much on school fees, when there're government school and college providing free education and do they even send their kids to those government school? For those who doesn't know in India people who comes under BPL (Below poverty line) are given free grains for food subsidised gas bill, subsidised electricity and all. These people will fall under BPL as they should and get all the benifits.
You don't want your children to end up like you if you didn't achieved much. You want them to achieve success and be more successful than you. They want their children to a better version of themselves. They want their children to go to best school and best opportunity that they can provide them with the money they earn.

My dad works in the army ( in India) and his salary is around 70 ,000 - 75,000 Rs . My dad worked in the army for more than 20 years, that's why his salary is higher . And we come in the upper middle class category.
My both parents come from a very small village... They worked hard to give me And my brother such a privileged life and we're grateful for that .
