This is glorious, I've been looking for "baking soda the laundry detergent substitute" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Sayoothan Telepathic Sovereignty - (should be on google have a look )?
It is an awesome one off product for discovering how to wash your clothes without toxic detergents minus the hard work. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my co-worker got great success with it.

All we really need to do is buy 4lb boxes of baking soda, bake it to make washing soda, and save money instead of buying both products. I make my own detergent and was buying both products + 4lb of borax and 4lbs washing soda, adding in either "oxy clean or awesome" from dollar tree and "2 bars of shaved, dried 'zote' soap". Mixed in trash bag very well and stored in bucket. I love it!!

At Walmart, 1 pound of generic baking soda is under 50 cents, whereas a large box of Arm & Hammer washing soda is about $1.20 per pound. It loses a bit of weight (20%?) when you heat it up. At temperatures above 176 degrees Fahrenheit (80 degrees Celsius), sodium bicarbonate starts to break down into three compounds, forming sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2). You use this reaction every time you cook and bake. The produced carbon dioxide gas makes baked goods rise! The higher the temperature of the sodium bicarbonate, the faster it will decompose.
