    Congratulations for reaching level 60! I just started and currently am on level 2. Long way to go!

      Thank you! It took a long time but I'm so glad I stuck at it.
      If I could give one piece of advice, it would be to try to make a habit of doing your reviews at the same-ish time every day (if you can). Your motivation will go up and down depending on how far along you are, but if you can make it a habit, you don't have to rely on your motivation and it just becomes something you do every day. Good luck with your language learning!

      @@NETWORK-vy4qs Level 60. I did it everyday and kind of speedrunned through it. I don't know how much I'd recommend WaniKani though, maybe for just the first 20 lessons. I think the best thing you can do for your Japanese is reading.

      @@Cole-te2rz how do you seed run it don’t you have to wait for reviews for me I am level 3 I had to wait 2-3 days for kanji to finally level up to guru and why do you only recommend doing up to level 20 and what should I do after it and one last question what n level would you say you are at rn

      @@NETWORK-vy4qs What I mean by speedrun is that I did it Wanikani multiple times a day and tried to do all my lessons as soon as they showed up. I recommend only up to level 20 or maybe 15 because I think there is better use of your time to learn kanji. Even though I completed Wanikani, I feel like I maintain information the best by just reading and looking up every word I don't know and putting it in an Anki deck. I still do Anki every day and now have over 10,000 words in my deck. The problem is WaniKani teaches you kanji in isolation and I don't think that is necessary, I think it is better to just learn words, and consequently learn kanji by that. I still feel that WaniKani was helpful for easing me into Japanese and helping me not just see Kanji as scribbles, hence why I recommend it just for the first 15-20 levels. But after that I would just recommend Anki and reading LOTS. I've read over 40 light novels and read manga, etc. I don't know what JLPT level I would be, probably at least N2 for reading. If you're serious about learning Japanese I recommend you read through this website learnjapanese.moe/. It helped me a lot.

    I'm on level 7. I can't imagine having memorized over 5,000 items, but I will get there!!

      Just take it a day at a time and you'll get there. You can do it!
      頑張ってね!😁

    Nice work! Just starting out and I noticed the audio when you get the vocabulary right. Name of the script? And how is the reading ability now?

    • @adamblance3346
      @adamblance3346  Год назад

      Sorry, only just spotted your comment!
      You can enable the audio by checking "Autoplay audio in reviews" in Wanikani settings. I was also using the Wanikani Double-Check script to let me retype an answer if I got it wrong.
      I had no reading practice at all when I finished Wanikani. It's been a year now and I'm able to read short stories without too many problems. Satori Reader and the Migaku Chrome Extension have been the biggest help in improving my comprehension overall.

    How do you feel about it after one year? Do you still remember a lot? Was it helpful and worth it? I just started and on level 2

      Completing Wanikani did more for my kanji knowledge than any other resource so I'd still recommend it 100%, but I think you get diminishing returns past the level 40-50 mark. I stopped taking it so seriously at that point and started using the double-check script (that you can see in the video) quite frequently to override Wanikani's answer marking.
      Good luck with your learning journey! Just make sure to start reading things in Japanese as soon as you know enough kanji. Don't leave it until level 60 like I did!

    i saw quite a few people saying the forgot 70-80% of the items and after 11 months after hitting lvl 60 would you say you forgot some?

    • @adamblance3346
      @adamblance3346  Год назад +1

      Yes, I've definitely forgotten some. It's probably around 20-30% of the 50-60 level stuff, maybe 10% of everything else?
      I have been spending a lot of time immersing recently and loads of those words just don't come up at all so I'm really not bothered by it. Also, the immersion has sealed in most of the stuff I learned on Wanikani. 😊

    • @adamblance3346
      @adamblance3346  Год назад

      But if you finish Wanikani and then never read any native Japanese stuff or watch native Japanese content you will 100% just forget everything after a few years.

      @@adamblance3346 question, so when i learn about 500 vocabulary words, should i start reading easy/short story books, so i can memorize everything easier as i am learning along with wanikani?

    • @adamblance3346
      @adamblance3346  Год назад +2

      @@theuglybread1148 I would just experiment with a mix of books and shows/anime to see what works for you but don't burn yourself out trying to do it. I think immersion in native content is really important, but in the early stages when you don't know that many words it can be frustrating. I've got ADHD and found I could only really tolerate watching/reading stuff when I got to around level 20 in Wanikani because I started to understand more and wouldn't get bored as easily.
