Thanks for watching! BOND mainly works with fans right now but will soon be compatible with RF devices like motorized shades and garage doors. What else could you see yourself using BOND in the future?
You said in the video (2 years ago!) that Bond was promising SmartThings compatibility. Do you know if they ever made good on that? If not, is there another brand of RF / IR blaster that does?
@@gcbusiness11 I'm kinda disappointed with Bond. They keep saying they'll come to Europe (where I live) but they haven't. I brought my Bond over here from the States, and it's working great, but it won't show up in my SmartThings over here until they allow it to. And I'm not sure they ever will, because they would have already done so. There's a ton of people over here that would like to control their Somfy shades without buying into that very expensive Somfy ecosystem, and Bond could be the key to that. Alas, not yet.
@@theattorney6072 I'm still using the Bond. It controls Somfy RF shades when other similar products like Broadlink don't. But they have still not integrated with Smartthings here in Europe, despite their promises. (Somfy makes a smart home hub themselves, so they're certainly not going to do it!) I finally got tired of waiting, and I soldered the terminals of a Shelly relay to the open and close buttons on a Somfy Telus remote, so now I can integrate my Somfy shades into my Smartthings routines. I'm still mad at both Bond and Somfy about having had to do this though, and my subsequent window treatments were purchased from Ali Express instead. They do integrate with Smartthings! My Bond Bridge controls other RF products like gate remotes, and although I have not tried it with fans, I'm confident it would work with them here.
I have an RF curtain module that doesn’t seem to want to connect to my Control4 smart home.. would this device work to bridge the RF curtains to Alexa or any home assistant so I could include it in scenes and automations
For some reason this showed up after I read the news about Sean Connery passing. I have been wanting to find a smart device for all my remote control fans.
Is there any way to connect it without the fan remote? The thing is that i'm looking for a device like this, because the one that is included with the celling fan got usless and replacing it is more expensive. Thank you!
I use smartthings and was wondering if there are inexpensive temperature devices that I could put in each room and use the bond to turn on the fan if it reached a certain temperature in the room?
The SmartThings button was pretty inexpensive last time I checked on Amazon. LIke $12 and it has a temp sensor in it. You could also use the button to manually turn on/off fans.
I am not sure that the Bond is still being developed, there was supposed to be an update to control garage door openers but there has not been an update for some time.
I haven't tried BOND working with other IR devices. I have gotten it to control other RF light strips so I would assume it would control IR light strips as well. I have also used the Harmony Hub to control IR light strips behind my TV.
If already have a smart wall switch (TP Link HS200) hooked to the fan to control ON and OFF but still have to use the fan remote to control fan speed and light intensity, will this work?
Hey thanks for the comment. Yes it will still work. I have an Ecobee Switch+ (smart light switch) in my office that controls my fan. That fan has a remote and is linked in BOND. You can just name the smart switch and the BOND device a different name. For example, I can say "Alexa turn on office switch" which turns on the light switch and then "Alexa turn on office fan" which will turn on the fan. I hope that answers your questions.
Smart Home Solver thanks for the reply. I guess now my question is there no need for my hs200 if i get the bond? I can just move the switch somewhere else if the bond could do it all.
Yeah I would probably move the smart switch if you are going to control the fan with BOND. That's what I plan on doing because I installed the Ecobee Switch+ in my office for the review but I will probably move it to control some other lights.
@@SmartHomeSolver Wouldn't it be better to synchronize the switch with BOND, that way if someone wants to turn on/off the light using the switch, it would also update BOND and viceversa. If you use a regular switch and it's turned off (by people less savvy in your home, or kids or you when leaving the room) .. then there is no way to turn the light/fan on again until you turn the switch on again, which defeats the whole purpose. Thoughts?
Thanks! Yeah Homekit has not received as much love as I hoped for. If it wasn't a fan with a remote I would get some smart switches that are Homekit compatible like Lutron. Some people have been able to get BOND to be available in Homekit using homebridge. I will try out BOND on homebridge and let you know how it is.
+macrapidito thanks! We moved into our house and these fans were already here so we aren't 100% sure because the fan has zero branding on it. But they seem like a Minka Aire fan.
The fan and remote in your video look identical to those I installed in my condo recently. The brand is HOME DECORATORS COLLECTION and the model is MERWRY. I bought some from Home Depot and others from Amazon.
Yes multiple people can be logged into the app at the same time. It doesn't look like you can create multiple accounts for the same BOND but if they are all logged in as the same account it will work fine.
Only problem is setting routines. If your routine is to turn all the lights and fans off when you leave, but they're already off, then it actually turns them on. Defeats the whole purpose.
Thanks for watching! BOND mainly works with fans right now but will soon be compatible with RF devices like motorized shades and garage doors. What else could you see yourself using BOND in the future?
You answered the question I had. It goes through walls. This is great in a two story house if it works.
Wow, what a cool product...and congrats on how far your videos have come since this one!
🤣 The quality of your videos has really gone up. Idk why but I love watching these older ones.
Wondering if they have this device for Apple HomeKit
I’m ordering a bond. It looks awesome!
Can you use the bond device on a ceiling fan without a remote?
No
Do I need a remote for each fan to pair it to Bond? Also can the Bond device be bridged to HomeKit with Hoobs?
Nice video! Can you use BOND with
Eogifee Universal Ceiling Fan Remote Control and Receiver Kit?
Hi, if you turn the fan or light with the original remote would they show ON in the Bond App? Can you test that out. Thanks.
Can you do an update video on this
Can this control fireplace if it has a remote?
You said in the video (2 years ago!) that Bond was promising SmartThings compatibility. Do you know if they ever made good on that? If not, is there another brand of RF / IR blaster that does?
Bond should work I see the fan app in smart things..dont have bond so I can't test it

Having problems dimming it with Alexa can you do this
Thanks for posting.. I wonder can I control my tv with this???
Thanks! I don't think you can but you can get a Harmony Hub for that and it works great for controlling your tv.
is broadlink rm pro better or bond? for controlling RF and IR things.
which works better with hubitat?
Hi, did you find out what is better ? Bond or broadlink ?
Will this work if you have the same fan in 3 rooms?
Any update on this product? Seems like a lot of people are having issues with this.
What's the actual cost of Bond? Just for RF remotes or both IR and RF?
I am not sure that the Bond is still being developed, there was supposed to be an update to control garage door openers but there has not been an update for some time.
Does Bond work on all ir sensors? I have a light strip that's not Phillips brand, and wondering if it'll work since it has an ir remote.
I haven't tried BOND working with other IR devices. I have gotten it to control other RF light strips so I would assume it would control IR light strips as well. I have also used the Harmony Hub to control IR light strips behind my TV.
hey. what is the fan make and model at 3:46?
Does it work with pulling chain ceiling fan ??
No. Only with RF fans which have remote instead of pull chain. If you have a pull chain fan all you need is to get a smart switch instead.
I have seen this device making the ceiling fans smart, any idea if I can make my Lasko Tower fans (with a turn on/off button) smart?
I am curious about controlling tower fans, too.
If already have a smart wall switch (TP Link HS200) hooked to the fan to control ON and OFF but still have to use the fan remote to control fan speed and light intensity, will this work?
btw, the HS200 is Alexa enabled. I'm thinking i might run into redundant issues where I say turn on fan for both TP Link and Bond device.

How do I make the light on/off NOT be a toggle?
does it work with air conditioners as well?
Yes in the app it has air conditionerers available right now. Fireplaces are in beta and the other devices are coming soon.
Thanks for the reply, I was wondering if you tried the functionally of it, If so does it work with LG air conditioners that use a regular IR remote

How do I know if my fans have IR?
Great vid, my I ask what kind ( brand) of fans do you have?
+macrapidito thanks! We moved into our house and these fans were already here so we aren't 100% sure because the fan has zero branding on it. But they seem like a Minka Aire fan.

Bond's latest update bricked the device and it will no longer connect. Do Not Buy.
If I don't have a remote to my fan will it not work
When you set up the bond you press the buttons on your existing remote so yes you do need a remote for your fan to allow the BOND to work.
Do the light switches need to be left in the on position right? Sounds like an obvious answer just double checking
Yeah the switches have to be left on. I wish there was an easy way to lock the light switch on so it doesn't accidentally get turned off.
Only problem is setting routines. If your routine is to turn all the lights and fans off when you leave, but they're already off, then it actually turns them on. Defeats the whole purpose.
Your videos then and now. Your old one is not in the same league as today's videos.
