Brillinnt set of vids. I always rewatch these just before I need to do any tiling. With your help I did my kitchen, and now I’m doing my bathroom. Thank you!
I've almost finished installing a full bathroom in a new build and have found all of your videos on here to be most instructive and helpful. I have taken my time and have achieved some stunning results for which I owe you much of the credit. Not only that, but you must have saved me a small fortune! I am therefore just adding this comment here to say thanks. Your help has been much appreciated. I reckon your video's consistently offer the best DIY advice and instruction to be found on utube.
Excellent video. As an absolute beginner I: (1) added more sockets re-doing all electrics using Wago connectors and boxes abiding by all regs, (2) installed 12 GU10 ceiling LED spots; strip LEDs and central light chosing FCC approved LEDs to avoid EMI; (3) screwed on Fermacell ceiling boards with FST (not to have to pay for a plasterer), (4) I fitted my German kitchen myself. I was scared of tiling but your videos on this once again really help. I have saved money and done all as I wanted it!
Your video was extremely helpful to me. I watched immediately prior to starting a grouting of tile which had to be reset/replaced and learned that my plan was flawed. Your experience was most helpful.
I also did all of the plumbing with Speedfit and part in copper and I installed a kitchen sink across the worktop joint (between two worktops) a challenging and risky endeavour. Your other video on the mains pipe coming into the property and how that is and worked (the only video I have seen on that on RUclips) really did help me there! Your videos are so great.
Great video just bought my 1st house and the missus wants a new splash back in the kitchen feel really confident after watching all 3 videos!! thanks and keep up the great posts!!
...one of your videos made me aware of the problem with bathroom tiles being hit constantly by power shower that the original build had not used a water resistant board under tiles or not made more impermeable the plasterboard (remembered that the guy didn't do that 10 years ago). I now provided some solution re-grouting but fully aware thanks to vid of the inherent weakness.
Just in the process of tiling my 7th bathroom at the moment, (I'm actually a Floorlayer, lol!) and I've always hated the grouting part, but you have just made it seem a whole lot easier to do, thanks for that.
Great video! :) Watching these months ago gave me the confidence to tile my bathroom, just from the bottom to the ceiling! :) The boring part was cutting the small pieces @ the top, & filling them down individually! :( I'm not to keen on grouting either, as the haze from the grout never seems to come off know matter how many times i clean it. I now want to do my kitchen, which I'm kinda dreading as I'm not that confident with tilling, i prefer painting etc etc, i know what i'm doing then! :)
Good idea, I'll test a bit, as I have a sheet of scrap. Thanks for getting back so quickly. P.s. I have sealed with Stainproof Original, leaving 48 hours after fixing (adhesive took a bit longer to set). Will seal again after grouting.
interesting grouting process, i usually grout a area, then sponge off after a short time, then use a grout finishing tool to get the joints perfect. If you use the pipe or finishing tool too soon, the grout lines can become messy, but if you sponge off too quickly, the same thing can happen. i was hoping to see you silicone and finish the job, and get those worktops spotless, I hate a messy worktop lol.
I did a patio with some spare tiles I had I need to grout them any tips before I do it? Never grouted before. The tiles follow the profile of the old patio too so it's not level (yeh I did a bodge..).
Thanks for the video, the only thing that worries me is the removal of the grout from the tile surface. Is there any definitive way to grout textured / porous tiles without making too bigger cleanup job. My initial thought was that it might be possible to pipe grout into the gaps and clean is off as you go?
Hi UH, followed all your vids to install my shower - tanking, shower tray/waste and tiling! very happy. I'm now here to see how to grout your way. Can I use a cheep rubber blade squeegee instead of the float ? I noticed not many people bother with your finishing tool (pipe) - what effect does it have over just sponging over ? Thanks again for taking the time to do this for us, we really appreciate it.
Yes, you can use a squeegee-no problem at all. You don't have to finish the grout lines using the plastic tube but I always think it looks neater. Thanks for the comment
Hi there. I am about to grout a natural stone (limestone) 3cm square mosaic unit in my bathroom. Any advice on whether the grout is easy to get off, these limestone tiles being a lot rougher than your usual smooth finish ceramic tiles?
You are welcome. It's because the worktop will expand and contract. Grout would soon crack as it is not as flexible as silicone. Thanks for the comment
Do you find powder grout a lot better than ready mixed stuff? Sometimes I get little surface craters in the grout lines and wonder whether its just the grout i'm using or i'm sponging too early. Means I have to go over some areas twice to get it looking good. Any tips?
Brilliant demo! Feeling much more confident with my tiling now! lol I am going to tackle a very small area above the small sink. It is only 5 small tiles across and 3 tiles high (same size as video) Please can you tell me can i add the tiles without the posh beading along the top and sides? Can I just use white silicon sealant along the edges instead? Also the rubber grouting float is probably too large a tool for this small area?
+jaybeth69 Yes, you don't need to use the tile trim, although it can be difficult getting a neat bead of silicone, but this video might help with that- ruclips.net/video/6vjTxTFL-k0/видео.html Also when grouting a small are a sponge works well ;-)
Quick question if possible, bathroom tiles needed degrouting, have done that, am wondering if I should use water sealer before or after grouting?, the tiles have in the past damaged our wall on the outer walls Cheers
Yoda Dundar I have never used that sealer I'm afraid, but most sealers are normally applied to the grout once it has dried. Best to check the instructions on the sealer ;-)
Great tutorials. Made it really easy. Thanks :-) Would have been useful in this one if you'd said roughly how long it takes the grout to dry before you can wipe it with the damp sponge though.
The idea of using a short length of plastic pipe to "point" the grout intrigues me. I've had trouble getting a uniform grout line using un sanded grout. The builders contractor , jammed the tiles in with little or no gap so I'm stuck with the unsanded. Do you have any information of installs using non sanded grout
How long do you wait after applying the grout until you use the pipe? And then, how long do you wait until you start to sponge off the excess grout from the tiles?
hello ultimate handyman... I'm grouting my bathroom and have a question... the tile on the shower wall at the bottom meets the tub. In the space between the last tile And the top of the tub...does grout go there too or something else??
+Ameer Kader Hi, you should use a good quality silicone sealant around the tub (called caulk in some countries)ruclips.net/video/DKFunUIh9rc/видео.html
From my experience I have always found powdered grout to be best as you can mix it to your own consistency, some of the pre mixed stuff is really sloppy and difficult to use.
Looks great.......good job on your video. I've never seen anyone use a small plastic pipe to indent the grout between the tiles before, so that was a good tip. I've got a "rougher" texture to the tiles I'm using on my wide deck railing, are there any tips to doing grouting on a rougher tile surface so that the grout doesn't get into the dips of the tile and mess the job up? Also....your "UK" accent made this kind of hard to understand at times, but I'll do my best to "translate".....THANKS!! John (in Nevada)
Thanks John, it can be difficult with rough texture tiles, but if you keep a damp sponge handy you can easily wipe any grout off from the tiles if it does not look right after profiling it with the plastic pipe or similar.Sorry about the accent ;-)

I am a novice at tile repair. Did reasonably well with your help. Have a great day.

That's a really informative video - way better than any others I've seen. Thanks for doing these.
Now I can finish off my kitchen thanks to your excellent directions!
Good idea, I'll test a bit, as I have a sheet of scrap. Thanks for getting back so quickly. P.s. I have sealed with Stainproof Original, leaving 48 hours after fixing (adhesive took a bit longer to set). Will seal again after grouting.
aww thanks man :) I'm well scared to tile my kitchen, but feel a lot better after watching this. Keep up the good work :D
This was a very informative video. I had no idea tiles were grouted like this. Thanks!

I like the matching tile grout colour to the tiles used...clever

+diy man glen You are welcome. Thanks for the comment ;-)
Thankyou, these videos were so helpful. I'm off to tile my splashback.
Great video, thanks! Why do you silicone the gap between the workbench and tiles instead of grouting it?
You are welcome.
It's because the worktop will expand and contract. Grout would soon crack as it is not as flexible as silicone.

Good work!) Good idea with the plastic, Thanks for the video!
Great tutorials. Made it really easy. Thanks :-)
Would have been useful in this one if you'd said roughly how long it takes the grout to dry before you can wipe it with the damp sponge though.
It's impossible to say as there are too many variables, such as the wetness of the mix or the room temperature.
Thanks for the comment
Great Vid. What did you do for top edge of the tile?
What size plastic pipe do you use?
great video!

did you tile around the air extractor?
Any recommendations for bevel edged tiles,

Super videos, thank you so much for taking the time to do them.
do you leave the tile spacers in while you grout or do you take them out??
Just a quick question, is it better to use ready mixed grout or the dry mix you used?
From my experience I have always found powdered grout to be best as you can mix it to your own consistency, some of the pre mixed stuff is really sloppy and difficult to use.
Ok great, cheers for that.

thank you for posting this sir, now i know what to do tomorrow :)
im only learning but dont you add powder to liquid?
Would you use the plastic pipe on floor tiles?
+a nony
Yes, it should give a neat finish ;-)
great vid, just about to do my mums kitchen, quite useful!!!!
I learned something from this video, thanks.
hi.. the plastic pipe u are referring to.... are the aircon pipe?
+Wong Kelena
Any plastic pipe will do. In the UK we have Hep20 or speedfit etc.
hi,, thank you, for the reply.
+Wong Kelena
You are welcome ;-)
@ultimatehandyman
Ah that's OK :)
As for the kitchen, I'll need all the luck possible, as it's not as straight forward as my bathroom was!
your videos are great ! thanks
Many thanks, your film helped a lot.
the question is, how do you seal those borders cleanly without ruining your work and putting it absolutely everywhere :-(
Very helpful made my job easier . Thanks

think you should try a smaller sponge hehe
LOL, I think I left the grouting sponge at home that day ;-)
haha ..just kidding but nice vid :)
how can you use a rubber squeezee instead of grout float
You can use lots of things for grouting, some people even use a sponge.
Ultimate Handyman I bet that would be a long day but whatever it takes. Great tutorial my man thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much - a very helpful video.
Any Chance You Can Do My Bathroom, Preston, Lancs? I am in absolute awe!
