Actually only Peter Pan was immortal in Neverland. The rest of the boys just stayed there until they started to go through puberty and then Peter 'thinned them out'. There are also numerous occasions where Peter murders people without showing the slightest bit of emotion and when Wendy and the kids are first flying to Neverland there's this cute little scene where Michael (the baby) keeps falling asleep and dropping from the sky. Peter keeps waiting until the last minute to catch him so he can show off and Wendy worries that eventually he'll get bored of the game and just let Michael die.
    Peter Pan was a phsycopath.

+TheYasmineFlower You're not wrong. Children only fully develop the ability to empathise around the age of 6 -7.

i don't exactly have any siblings to example the little Michael to, so for some reason i really like the version of Peter Pan you just talked about.
      I'm 13 in case you're wondering.

+PureNightfall I read somewhere that kids don't develop the ability to empathize until their ten. Though Peter Pan might be an exception because he lived on Neverland, he lost his memories over time. It was one of the reasons Wendy and her brothers wanted to go back home at the end of the book/movie, because they were forgetting things like the color of their mom's eyes or that they had parents. Peter Pan wouldn't have been able to empathize to some degree because he couldn't learn from past experiences. I can empathize with someone who's lost their grandparents because I've lost one of my grandparents and know what that feels like. I also can put myself in another's perspective and imagine what the loss of someone is like from similar experiences. Peter Pan can't because he doesn't have those memories and hasn't been taught to consider another's point of view. That's what she meant by psychopath.

+Crystalized Ink Well, you didn't read that little "factoid" in any scientific text. Children develop the ability to empathize at different rates and ages, depending on their development and upbringing. In some it's delayed due to being abused or neglected (and some abuse victims have _more_ empathy because of what they've been through).
Children raised in loving, functional homes start to develop empathy as toddlers, most will show the beginnings of empathy by age 2 or 3. They might say "owie" if another child gets hurt or try to put a bandage on it. I've never known a 3-year-old who would stomp on a puppy's face once they understand it would hurt the puppy. Most children don't even need to be told not to, they already understand that having your face stepped on hurts, so they don't do it to others. That's empathy.
If it was simply about getting in trouble, they would try to do it anytime they thought someone wasn't looking. Toddlers especially think they can always get away with stuff, but they still aren't stomping on puppies when they think no one can see.
Also, by age 10 almost all children can empathize regardless of whether they've gone through something themselves, and taking away some of your childhood memories doesn't take away your ability to experience empathy.

Cinderella: Doesn't the actual story have the stepsisters cutting off their toes to fit in the shoe? And when the prince finds out they tried to fool him, he has them beheaded?
Little Mermaid: I recall the siren falling for the prince, getting a NICE seawitch to help her become human, but the prince is never attracted to her and falls sincerely in love with a different woman, so the little siren is left to die but the nice seawitch turns her into stars or something.... I should read that one again.
Rapunzel: The witch gets Rapunzel because her mother has a craving for radishes and her dad keeps stealing the radishes from the old woman's yard until he's caught and promises to give the baby to the old lady. Can't remember why she's kept in a tower though...
What others do you guys remember? Pinocchio was pretty close to the real thing... Lion King was a rip of Kimba the White Lion... I don't think Bambi was a book first... Hmm... What happens in the real Sleeping Beauty or Snow White?
I wonder if Disney will ever remake Rumpelstiltskin. He was in Shrek, sure, but I'm sure he deserves his own story that's happy and sweet and not at all as twisted as the real thing. Or Disney Hansel and Gretel (who aren't witch hunters). Hmm.

kfetter16 I think that the real sleeping beauty is pretty spot on to the movie but there was an Ann Rice book where she was raped awake. Except Peter Pan was the one who never aged. According to the books, the immortality non-aging factor only applied to Peter. Everyone else aged. The Lost Boys would stay with Peter until they grew up. Then the books hints that they were either killed or became pirates.

The kids that escaped being killed became pirates because I mean if a dude tried to kill you, you would try to stop him from doing it again to you or someone else. I can't recall if the pirates came as adults cause if Hook was the first kid he ever brought to Neverland that story would be soooo messed up.

After spending an entire class learning the history of pirate literature and taking a dive into Barrie's past with a professor that was paid to study it, I can safely say that Barrie was not actually a pedo. After his brother's death, Barrie was mentally scarred by his mother's methods to the point where he had the mentality of a childhood throughout his adulthood. Although he got married, it was more to uphold European expectations at the time. The Davies family wasn't just some random family he met, the kids' aunt was a relatively famous author that Barrie got along with.
Barrie's entire career is built on his relationship with the Davies family and how he was raised in his brother's shadow. He never did anything with them because he was too immature and kind to do anything; the character of Peter Pan was named after the youngest child and he literally invented the name Wendy for that novel. He's basically an English-writing Gamera: a friend to all children, minus the chest laser and rocket shell.

    • @dragonwaz
      @dragonwaz 6 месяцев назад +1

Eh, that still leaves a 50 50. Either he was asexual and you're right or that was a lie and while being mentally immature his body did still mature and gave him urges he would have taken out on the children he saw himself as equal to.
Personally I think the kids speaking up for him leans me more towards him not being a pedo but no one can know for sure.

Peter Pan (PP) also killed the Lost Boys once they grew up and the pirates were the kids that survived him?!?

According to a quote from Nico Davies, the youngest of the Davies kids, "I don't believe that Uncle Jim ever experienced what one might call 'a stirring in the undergrowth' for anyone-man, woman, or child. He was an innocent-which is why he could write Peter Pan." Which says that he's asexual, not a pedophile.

Peter Pan represents J.M. Barrie's older brother, who died young, and was romanticized as a perfect angel by his mother. Captain Hook is J.M. Barrie who had to live in the shadow of his brother, and could never measure up to his brother's legend.
I also think that since Barrie had a "love" of hanging around young boys, and never consummated his marriage, that he might have been molested by his older brother, and it caused intimacy issues.
As for Peter, and Hook, I think Hook is the baby Peter saw when he looked through the window when he went to visit his parents. And that like Barrie, had to live in the shadow of the image of a perfect lost angel, that he could never live up to.
And that when he heard of Peter Pan, and Neverland, Hook went to Neverland to exact revenge against his brother Peter.
It's a story of sibling rivalry.

Ok the story I was told about Peter Pan was a magical that played a flute and hypnotized children taking them to Never Land. I can't remember if he killed the children as they got older because he didn't want them to grow up or if he was stealing their youth. Some of the children however escaped but never found their way home, so they band together becoming pirates for protection. One child fought Peter Pan while trying to escape losing his hand in the battle. Of course this child grew up to be Captain Hook.

Once again Cracked skimped on the research.
The character Peter Pan is not named after a penis and the mythological god, he's named after one of the Davies children and the fact that he plays the Pan Flute. In addition the name Wendy was created by Mr. Barrie for this book and it was, once again, inspired by one of the Davies children. The youngest child use to call him "friendy" but had trouble saying the "r" so it came out "Fwendy".
Also Neverland isn't an actual location. It is made very clear in the beginning of the book that Neverland is a magical place were dreams take place and is constantly changing.
The Davies children made the comment about Mr. Barrie not being attracted to children because the conversation was about whether or not he was attracted to children and was totally fair in that context.

    • @kourii
      @kourii 2 года назад +2

The 'Peter' part is pretty obviously a joke not meant to be taken seriously.
As for 'Pan', you're aware than the Pan flute/pipes are _named_ after Pan, right? And given that Peter plays with faeries and rides goats, unless you actually have a source for that it seems like a needless stretch anyway.
Lastly, it wasn't one of the Davies children who called him 'fwiendy'. That was Margaret Henley, a different child he knew.

  • @MisterSynyster
    @MisterSynyster 10 лет назад +2

Peter Pan is also definitely some form of crazy: when you go to never land you use your sense of time and soon forget your old life very quickly and exceptionally quickly for Peter. He has an odd obsession with Wendy's family ideas for the lost boys but can't decide if he wants to be the father or one of the children. In the end, Tink has been long since dead and Peter has COMPLETELY forgotten her as he abducts Wendy's daughter and then even her daughter, who creepily enough is named after Barrie's mother

At the beggining of the book, we get know that Alice's got a split persona, has a thing going for spanking herself, she delusional and propobly schizophrenic.
My point in this comment is :
When we're kids, we don't know and we don't care about that kinnda stuff, the fairy tale is entertaining and cool, so why not enjoy it ?
when we grow up, we tend to give everything a darker and greetier tone although it may not be true.

I think Katey doesn't like peter pan because it was one of the movies the others used on her birthday to remind her that no one really cares about her. That being said peter pan is a story that is trying to encourage a life without material possession. Pan was not only a god of sexual debauchery but of freedom and nature. Peter lives underneath a tree, is friends with a tribe of people who are more entuned with their surroundings and his enemies are pirates, a group of people obsessed with possessions.

Actually, a lot of people bring up Peter's name but, if he's the boy who would never grow up why would he engage in "Adult activities"? First, Pan is a greek god associated with fertility not so much the act of sex. Back then it was a pretty distinct difference, over the years it kind of all fell in the grey area. But Pan is also a god of the wild, he's boastful and all about having fun and living in nature. Hence why a boy living in nature and always having fun might associate with the name.
Peter is a 20th century slang term for penis originating in 1902 as best we can tell. The little white bird (first appearance of Peter Pan) was published the same year. It's a little close to call a direct relationship to. If they are related it really is more of a chicken/egg thing. But one thing we know for sure, Peter was a prominent name for literary characters who are magic or are leader characters in some way. Not to mention it's popularity at the time in real life. People start making connections wherever they can to prove the wildest theories all the time. We could definitively set the record straight right now, then in 50 years someone else would just make the same argument, jumping to the same conclusions. It's the sad fact about assumptive arguing.

No offense, but they took that Wikipedia line out of context. Right after that, they said this (note, this is slightly abridged for sake of space and relevance) :
*"...However, there is no evidence that Barrie had sexual contact with children, nor that he was suspected of it at the time. Nico, the youngest of the brothers, flatly denied as an adult that Barrie ever behaved inappropriately. 'I don't believe that Uncle Jim ever experienced what one might call 'a stirring in the undergrowth' for anyone -'...His relationships with the surviving Davies boys continued well beyond their childhood and adolescence."*
And if the kid was asked if Barrie had sexual relations with them (kids), of course he would use child in his example with "man, woman, and child". I sometimes enjoy Cracked, but not when they grasp at straws like this.

Lia Harlin People do lie, but they use Asexuals, a very oppressed sexuality, to do so. That gives asexuals a bad rap, and it's not fair. And well...life isn't fair unfortunately. But I think I can explain: we all know not all asexuals are pedophiles, but asexuals would be offended by that statement in the video because they are already prejudiced against on a daily basis for not wanting sex in the first place. They get harassed and told they're wrong and that it's 'just a phase'. Having their sexuality 'joked on' (for lack of a better term) like that is a little degrading and once again shows how they can be dismissed, and it's sad...

In the book Peter's directions are "Second to the right and straight on 'til morning." Everybody else basically shrugs because those directions are nonsense. It's the narrator's first clue to the audience that Peter doesn't really think about where he goes or what he does and simply follows his childish impulses. That trait drives a lot of action, including the murder and mayhem referenced in other comments. Barrie's life has been twisted up in a lot of speculation and myth which makes it very difficult to effectively tie an interpretation of the novel and subsequent media to events in his life. My capstone thesis centered on the development of academic criticism children's literature so I have a lot of feelings about it. Which is why I'm wasting my energy typing a response to a 3 year old video. You do you, Cracked.

      Ok ok ok...let me see.
Jim Dear and Darling feed Lady coffee, which dogs shouldn't eat
Jock and Trusty must be castrated, otherwise there is no way they would be free to play with Lady unsupervised.
Jim Dear is a sexist in his expectations for the baby.
Tramp acts like his life is so much better than living in a dog house and eating leftover baby food. You woke up in a train yard barrel.
Aunt Sarah leaves her cats Si and Am alone with Lady, without first training the three of them to get along.
Joe and Tony are contributing to the problem of feral dogs by feeding Tramp and encouraging him to reproduce.
Lady judges Tramp for having a sexual history before her, yet dogs are not monogamous on their own volition. Dogs are only monogamous when breeders control their mates.

Lol I actually did a report on Peter Pan's origin story for my Literature class about half a year ago. Here's some quotes. :)
'Peter and Wendy by J.M. Barrie has more adult themes than you’d guess. Peter brings Wendy to Neverland to act as a mother to the Lost Boys. With time, Wendy starts to fall in love with Peter and asks him how he feels for her. He describes himself as her faithful son.'
    Me: "Friend zoned."
Barrie's original draft depicts Pan as a villain, kidnapping children from their beds; Captain Hook was only added later, as a theatrical device to distract the audience while stagehands changed the scenery. "To die would be an awfully big adventure," says Peter Pan in one of the novel's most famous lines. Unlike in the Disney adaptation, in the original Peter kicks Hook over the side of the boat and he is eaten by the crocodile, and Peter Pan would “thin the lost boys out” when there were too many of them or when they got too old. "As soon as he got inside his tree he breathed intentionally quick short breaths at the rate of about five to a second. He did this because there is a saying in the Neverland that, every time you breathe, a grown-up dies; and Peter was killing them off vindictively as fast as possible."
Quote from the author in regards to one of his adopted children; "I lay thinking of this little boy, who, in the midst of his play
while I undressed him, had suddenly buried his head on my knees... Of David's dripping little form in the bath, and how I essayed to catch him as he slipped from my arms like a trout. Of how I had stood at the open door listening to his sweet breathing, had stood so long I forgot his name."

He once tried to rape Omphale but she was sleeping in Herakles's clothes and Herakles was in hers so Pan mixed them up and attempted to rape the hero instead. Herakles was, understandably, pissed about it and bashed the god over the head with his club. Ever since that Pan has gone pantless (or naked) so he won't confuse people about his sex.

You can be asexual and unhealthily obsessed with children whether romantically or otherwise. The fact that pedophiles express that obsession sexually is one thing of course. As I said, we obviously lack the terminology for his mental illness. Plus, many asexuals themselves are very complex, it does not start at end no sexual attraction of any kind whatsoever

Didn't two of the kids that J.M. Barrie adopted kill themselves? I think I read that somewhere but I don't remember many details. I know that one of them was named Peter, and that was who Peter Pan was named after. He threw himself in front of a train, and the other one (I don't remember his name) drowned himself.

Yet again the Cracked team are applying modern standards to the past. Specifically the age of consent and what was acceptable to do with children.

The kids that he wrote about didn't meet the age of consist back then either. They were all under 10 or 11.

Wermhats Wormhat The strange species are known as Otakus. Unlike the myth that says they don't mate at all with other Otakus or non-otakus. All of them in fact hold some sort of sexual perversion brought from the japanese culture they so hardly adore. Most usually is zoophilia, although minor traces of pedophilia may arise. Most won't even reach them consciously, but it is within them.

You missed some of the best parts, like how Peter kills the lost boys when they grow up.

    • @carultch
      @carultch 7 лет назад +1

Either that, or Peter Pan is a positive personification of the Grim Reaper, and Neverland is a kind of "Heaven" for children who die.
The lost boys never grow up, because they are already dead, and are forever remembered as children.
This would make sense as JM Barrie lost a brother as a child, and his mother forever remembered his brother as a child, and wanted him to be like his brother. His mother denied the inevitable fact that JM Barrie would grow up.

Most Fairy Tale stories were creepy, but still made for kids. Mother Goose tales are creepy as hell, but they were all stories mother would tell to their children.
These stories started to change when the Grimm brothers decided to write a book with fairy tales in America, but their editors, probably, thought the stories were too creepy for kids, and made the Grimm brothers make versions that were more appropriate.
But think about it, have you ever read or watched Coraline? Adults think that is too scary for kids, but kids LOVE that story (I actually think the book is even scarier than the movie), Neil Gaiman started to write Coraline with one of his daughters, and ended writing it with another daughter, while they were still little girls. That "scary" world was made with the ideas of two little girls.

Regarding names, I heard Peter = one who makes PANS and Tinker = one who makes BELLS....
But I guess that wouldn't fit into this sketch

yeah, that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. its not like peter refers to some blacksmith specializing in kitchenware, or tinkers making stuff in general.
i think that's just some bullshit someone thought up and shared.

Lost Boys is a Victorian euphemism for male children who died before four years of age. Because of the the high infant mortality rate and children mortality rate many families would not even name them as to not “waste” the name on a dead son until they were older.
