- Lauren Laverne: 'I take a no-brow approach to culture'
Indie girl turned cultural bigshot Lauren Laverne talks to John Harris in the latest of his National Conversations series of interviews. In a wide-ranging and candid conversation, they discuss sexism on TV, the break-up of her band Kenickie, nostalgia, and her once calling the Spice Girls 'Tory scum'
Love Lauren Laverne. She owns all the other DJ's on six music!
She's so cool. Keep rocking Lauren!
Frank Filthyfinger Hey, this country has the best female presenters in the world, be that in music, culture, sport, news, weather and politics. They’re just cooler and better informed with quirky personalities and humour. I beg to differ with you. Olé.
Yep, his interviewing style is demeaning. Would be more interesting/inspiring if it was a woman of colour interviewing her. They dynamic would be so different. I do respect the challenges of women and feel it daily! However I also see the pressures of masculinity and what happens if ‘he falls off his horse’ - men as saviours/warriors, avoiding conflict trying to stay alive. So in terms of equality one only has to look at the suicide rates between genders to see what psychological challenges each gender has to face. If only we could all support, love and nourish one another more towards equanimity. 💙🦋🙏🏼
She's not actually a comedian, she's a presenter and, formerly, singer/guitarist in the astoundingly brilliant Kenickie. God knows why they hired her for that show, I don't think it does either party any favours.
Mint Royal
Don't Faulter. ...her best song
She's really hot I think in a very english manner...if that makes any sense whatsoever
seaham's finest lauren laverne xx
at 3 minutes, he looks like his brain has melted.
the flip side of woman being judged by appearance is that beautiful women get all manner of things that mediocre men and women dont...women can use feminine charm to manipulate men in a way men never can...i know female corporate attorneys that wear mini skirts to court for exactly that reason, or so they have told me....
Laurens the indie Mackem Jodie Foster
Lauren Laverne is cool as fuck
Laverne used to take the piss out of Mark Kermode for being too cerebral about film. Think she defended 'Marley' - the film about the dog not the reggae star. What I find really annoying about people like Laverne is - they can dig avant gard music like Can but then they think art and film should be understood by all.
Jill of all trades glad she's happy that really she's lucky like and really mainly a looker girl with the silver touch more importantly she seems really nice comedy lol
she's pretty.
Nothing wrong with the interview. He tried to catch her out but that's good, and she handled it well.
Can anyone tell me.. Is Lauren affecting a more "Northern" Accent here, or softening her accent when she does 10 O'Clock Live?
What is that guy's problem?
He has a chip on his shoulder
A true patrician.
That distinction is dying because it doesn't matter. 10 more years and it will be official.
What distinction?
Very cooly done...
Why is he shouting at her?
@1nternetPsychos1s Did you not find any irony when you wrote that comment?
Wow that guy is creepy
people like you
Perhaps no approach at all to culture or even her front door would be a step in the right direction?
This is great, but you haven't got her confashion have you?! See it on our channel! /watch?v=9cjgW3siDcQ
Intelligent gal but if she thinks she will being all her media work if she looked like Susan Boyle she is misguided
I love 'er.
Yes, I will marry you
She sounds like she's from the north east
I thought she was Cornish
hot hot hot !
"Less women"? Fewer women!
I can't stand these prissy BBC presenters!
Where's the Off switch?
Although Kenicki were shit.
Very interesting that Lauren didn't give any explanation as to why Thatcher isn't a role model for women considering she is the most successful Prime Minister since WW2
Is Lauren being sexist and demanding that women have to conform to certain stereotypes in order to be legitimate?
boring
she's the least funny comedian i've ever seen. constantly fails on 10oclock live
