- The super mario series has had a large variety of boss fights over the years. With such a large number of bosses, it’s expected that some bosses would be better than others. Super Mario Bros, Mario 64, and even new super mario bros wii all have great bosses, but Super Mario Odyssey has some of the best bosses in the series, and one sticks out above all others as being the best. The robobrood found in mario odyssey’s bowser kingdom does everything a boss fight should. The mechabroodal is a great challenge, perfect for mario odyssey. Specifically, the speedrun position of this boss fight is what puts this boss so far above anything else in the series. So join me as I discuss why the Robobrood is the best boss in the super mario series.

This was a wonderful video, but the Robobrood is not the penultimate boss in the game. We still have everyone’s favorite, Madame broods in the moon cave! Still, this was a great video explaining not just what makes the boss fight great, but how to do a boss fight well in general! I love this series!

I completely agree. For some reason battling the mechobroodal is like the most fun boss. Also I have a video suggestion. What if you ranked all final bosses in main line games or all 1-1s?
My favorite 1-1 is from the original mario bros because I see it all the time.

I 100% agree with MechaBroodal being the best boss. Like you said, it’s a very fun, difficult, satisfying boss fight. Normally it’s pretty annoying not being able to beat a hard boss, but for the MechaBrood you can just keep trying and keep having fun.
And it's good for any level difficulty; Anyone can play it and feel satisfied regardless of their skill.
It's disappointing how easy the NSMBDS Bowser fight was because every other major boss in the game was great (Monty Tank and Lakithunder for example)
Probably my favorite level by level episode, you made a great Argument for why is was the best. I also loved the part where you talked about the history of Mario bosses with traditional bowser fights and dialogue boxes. And while you may think the robobroodale is the best, I’m going to stick with the final bowser boss in Hotel Mario, but the robobroodle is a close second

The Broodal's exploding into fireworks reminds me of the ending of Meowser's fight in Super Mario 3D World.

For the nightmare fight in Links awakening, each phase is a recreation from a boss in a Link to the Past. However, the final Ganon phase doesn’t require a spin attack. I don’t know where that came from.
I think you need spins if you have the lvl 1 sword
@@shaunculleton9321 I looked into it and I found that only the lvl 3 sword can damage him normally. But in links awakening, even with the Max level sword you still have to damage him with spin attacks.
I always love it when game designers use the narrative of their levels as a hint in defeating a boss while still making it unique enough that it’s not just a bigger enemy with HP or something similar to that. I love your analysis of the Robobroodal and agreed entirely with the video. I didn’t even know that we could speed run the boss by climbing on its legs! :)
Another important aspect to a boss fight is feel. You can sort of cheat the difficulty issue a bit by making awesome looking bosses. An easy boss makes the game accessible to everyone, but if it also looks and sounds awesome, it can feel very intense, even when it isn’t.
While the Lord of Lightning (Electro Dragon) for example, is generally one of the harder bosses in SMO, it really excels in feel. Even an easy version would feel absolutely awesome to fight, because, well, you’re fighting a giant electro dragon, of course you feel awesome when fighting it! Anyway, I really enjoy this series and am exited for the next episode of Level by Level!
one thing i adore about Odyssey is the way every single boss is built around a mechanic/capture that has been introduced and built up in their level... EXCEPT BOWSER? his hat just shows up with no explanation, and the only other time anything similar shows up is... the second Bowser fight

Some of the best bosses in this franchise right here. My favorite is Robobrood, and my least favorite is Mecha-Wiggler.

I 100% agree that the Robobrood is easily one of the best boss in Odyssey.... however I will say that it's rematch on the dark side is FAR from it since, for some reason, they decided to replace the Pokios with Hammer bros which make the fight a complete joke
Nintendo could have easily made the knock-back animation after dealing a hit longer such that the player only regains control after landing on the ground but they did not and this is so amazing!
Amazing video. I love this series! I especially love how you pointed out how incredible the buildup to the Robobrood battle is, especially with the music slowly building up while it shows each Broodal. It gave me chills the first time I saw/heard it.

IMO the underwhelming DS NSMB ending was entirely necessary, and not just because DS hardware or whatever ppl normally say. It was introducing a whole generation to ‘typical Mario’ and the NSMB Wii battle was a natural progression to the ‘get to the button’ style of bowser fight, which wouldn’t have worked as well in the self contained series and for the generation being introduced to the blueprint if that foundation wasn’t there
Honestly even though NSMB Ds's final boss was disappointing for some people and I can see where he's coming from, I think even better examples of his point would be the final bosses in New super Mario 2 and New super Mario U, which basically copies Mario Wii's Bowser fight with a few minor tweaks. It's even more disappointing for New Super Mario bros. 2 because there was a perfect final boss waiting for it, that being if Bowser eats the golden flower (which would actually make the final boss be about what the entire game was about, coins)

Dudeeeee, this was such a good video. By far my favorite level by level so far. The Mechabroodle is without a doubt one of the best video game bosses ever. I can tell how much effort you put into these videos, and can't wait for the next one in the series (cough, botw ganon, cough)

The Super Mario Bros. Wii boss fight was so good. I used to it for hours with my brother, even after we had beaten it. It was just that much fun!

I remember my favorite 3D Mario Boss was the Bowser Jr’s Boomsday in Galaxy 2. And then this boss was just the better version of that boss
Not only is Robobrood one of the best Mario bosses it also has one of the best boss themes in the series hands down!
Only boss theme I say is better is 8-bit lava octopus (if I try and spell his name I’m going to misspell it horrible so I’m not trying)

When I first played, I didn't realised you could climb up the Mechabrood and had to look it up
Your content has became very entertaining(even more than before) and i want to always watch your videos. It is hard to make a long video that you want to keep watching to the end and editing is good(music, gameplay, moving from a clip to another and some explaining text on screen etc) Very well done.

That beat drop was absolutely immaculate, I tip my hat to you, odyssey.
Giving the Robobrood four hit points was a great choice, too. It lets the first phase act as a boss tutorial. On your first playthrough, knocking out the first Broodal feels like the game is saying, "Okay, so you know what to do. Here comes the boss: hit it three times to win!"
This made me realise that Bowser's Kingdom is designed like a Galaxy level. Probably why I loved it so much.
This is completely unrelated from the main subject of the video, but the final boss phase 1 music from new soup wii is one of the most underrated final boss themes, id argue ever.
I would like to see a level by level on mario 64, maybe bo bomb battlefield as the first 3d mario level and introducing mechanics to the player, or whomps fortress generaly regarded as the best 64 level, or maybe rainbow ride as many people hate it and u can explain why in the video or you could just choose your personal favorite or least favorite level

finnaly I can watch it after having to sleep and school
At first I didn’t even realize you were supposed to use the pokio on that fight, I was trying to beat it as one of the hammer bros that were in the arena. It could’ve worked, but I found it easier with the pokio. It took me a couple deaths to realize that was an option though.
I love how broken and cheesable the refight is in the dark kingdom. All it takes is a ground pound jump and cappy dive to get on top. And when it kicks you off just cappy dive again. And its also funny riding it while its legs are invincible and it runs around. With this method you can beat it in like 2 minutes. Yeah the broodal fights can be cheesed so hard on the dark side. Like it makes spewart who is already the worst fight in the game, even easier. Throw cappy to knock his hat off and then jump and throw cappy right after to cancel it to land on spewart. Then after run to the wall of the arena wait till spewart charges at you and jump and throw cappy at the wall to jump on spewarts hat to cancel the attack. If you this all correctly you can beat him before he has a chance to even puke out the poison
I wasn't fully convinced until the Hat Part and then I was: *WOW* If anything, that's even more satisfying then slapping a boss with a Pokey'd Bomb. But also, it has the Celeste Middle Range of not being too Rage Challenging but is easy enough to get into the flow by that stage in the game. However, it looks like I need to practice my Ground-Pounds...The Mario Party 2Ds Bowser Ones; I'm not good at it and I know you need to do this to jump *ONTO* Bowser here by his 2nd - Final Forms I think.

For me it's a tie between Mecha Broodal and Bowser for the number one. Then The Lord of Lightning for number 2. Then Knuckleteoch for number 3 ( there's no other hard bosses *to me personally* so coolest design to me personally

I understand that this dude is fun, and definitely One of the best Nintendo bosses, but in terms of the best bosses if all time: PLAY DARK SOULS 3! There’s like 10 bosses in that game that are as good if not better than this guy! Also Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Sekiro and even Metal Gear Rising! Just ti name a few games with amazing bosses! Don’t get me wrong, this guy is really good… but those games just have sone bosses that blow him out of the water!
4:31 You're definitely not used to the Zelda franchise. For example, a few months ago I beat A Link to the Past, and there's a boss that has the same problem: Agahnim. There are posts that say you can't hit them with the sword/any object, but this was really annoying. The thing I don't really like is the fact that knowing how to beat the boss is harder than the actual fight(and I looked Up a guide)
You have to reflect the power, and you don't want to solve puzzles after an exhausting dungeon

I think it could be interesting to make a video talking about Minecraft’s bosses (Ender Dragon, Wither, and maybe even the Elder Guardian if you want to count it as a mini boss).
Unpopular opinion but personally I think that the mechabroodal boss is OK. I like the concept and love using pokeyo but I found it way to easy especially for one of the last bosses. one of the easiest in the game I beat it first try and only took one heart of damage. I haven't done the rematch yet so maybe that'll be a lot harder.
The Fawful Express from Bowser's Inside Story was too hard. Got stuck there when I was younger.

you should make a video about the WORST battle, the MECHAWIGGLER REMATCH!!! it's uncreative, unfun, and janky
one more thing I think bosses need is a main mechanic that has already been introduced and that you need to show mastery over to win
that's why I think this fight is one if not the best
The only boss I struggled with was the mechanic wiggler because I refused to turn on gyro controls and drift wasn’t doing me good.

I have experienced... Problems with alot of link's awakening's and luigis mansion 3's bosses (not knowing what to do). maybe you could think of them as puzzles, but doing puzzles when an unkillable thing is trying to kill(and after long enough time kill) you is not fun.
video idea: analyse the perfect run, world 8 crown, champions road and darker side and explain which is the best aesthetically, progression, power-ups/captures ext
I definitely could see a champions road episode in the future! Darker side already has one but this idea could still work later down the line

The battle in the bunny moon took me hours and forever to finish, even when I use extra 3 hearts... I managed to beat the final boss with one heart left
