Des with the “I’m a very specific person when it comes to my opinion. They’re gonna be heard and I’m gonna have them” YES QUEEN you tell them. That sounds like a Daisy Jones quote right there and we love to see it👏
One thing I’ve learned from listening to Bookmark’d is that I need to hurry up and finish the ACOTAR series so I can mentally join in with the conversations 😅❤
In the UK we tend to get hardcover versions of books come out first and then wait a while for the paperback. However, i think sometimes if its not an anticipated release it will come out straight to paperback. But we dont really get any of the big paperbacks. Love you listening to you guys ❤
the paperback/hardcover thing is interesting cus I live in a non English speaking country in Europe (kinda long way to say I'm German lol) and English books come out in paperbacks here, but most German ones are also published as hardcovers first and it takes like a year for the paperbacks to come out. I work in a bookstore too so I know it's definitely about money, publishing houses want to make as much money as they can when the book comes out first (especially if it's a hyped release) so they take their sweet time with releasing paperbacks aka more affordable copies
The authors usually sell the copyrights to their book to a media company like warner bros to make the movie. They usually have little say in what the directors/producers do with it. Stephen King is known to dislike what they did with a couple of his adaptations.
Thank you ladies for being two positive influences for book lovers!! This is the reason I keep coming back to your channels! Love your content! Keep doing what you do!
besties i love u and this podcast, but can u please use a mic stand? the sound is so bad at times when ur moving :( i will continue to listen either way, but it would make this podcast even better!!!!
Here in the uk we litterally always get books released in hardcover first 😭 the only way I can find the larger paperback is at the airport and we call them “airport exclusives” 😅
You guys were talking about a girl getting tattoos for books and I just wanted to let Sara know that I just got my first tattoo last month and it was a Harry styles tattoo😂❤️ I got the “we’ll be alright” tattoo and I LOVE it❤️
I truly love this podcast so much. It’s a comfort podcast i did not know i needed until it started ❤ Also, my phone also has the back cracked and I never knew how it happened and it also happened to my aunt which is weird. Loved this episode ❤️ hope everyone is having a great dayy
Re: the talk of book hate and “bad books”, listennn when someone says “this is a bad book” it’s implied that it’s their opinion, and they thought the book is bad. The point of art is to think about it critically and interpret it in your own way. Of courseeee there is hate with comments and people being mean, but I enjoy watching videos of people being critical of popular books and “hate reading” bc similar to pop culture this is what is disseminated to people and can shape how we think and feel about things. To say critically “I don’t think this is a message that should be shared to the public” or even “this is poorly written” or “I don’t enjoy this plot” isn’t inherently hate. And (perhaps hot take) authors/artists should be able to take criticism for putting their art out there and learn to find ways to filter out to get to the truth. Especially the big authors! I understand that it can hurt your feelings, but I think also with age and time you will learn to feel less protective and sensitive to these challenges (I’m a little older than you guys, so no tea no shade, I just remember feeling similar but now feel wayyyy less sensitive to what random people think now, ya know?) Re: Coleen Hoover, I don’t like her, and watch the hate videos to get more info on the books I haven’t read and I think it’s important to have those discussions because her books have a lot of anti-choice rhetoric, judgemental themes surrounding motherhood, toxic relationships, abuse that isn’t challenged etc. I also severely question her values personally and I think we would disagree on a lot of fundamental beliefs. Most hate videos say at some point “I understand why people like her, the writing is easy to digest and quick read and a page turner” etc. and they aren’t mad at readers for liking it, they are mad at Colleen for perpetuating toxic ideas into pop culture. Just wanted to share bc you said you enjoy discussing differing opinions, and to me there is a difference between being critical of a book/not liking it and pure hate, and to meeee I think people can post their own content about their thoughts and we can choose to engage with it or not. Buuut I think comments telling you nasty things is wrong. It’s a spectrum.
Des & Sara, you guys bring so much joy into my life by just being yourself & creating all this incredible content!!! ❤ My day literally gets so much better when I either listen to Bookmark’d or watch y’all’s videos 🥺😭
I think Jake hurt her more because she loved him more. John was over so quickly. But with Jake it seems like she believed they would be together longer. They were more public for one. She meet his family and spent time with them. She meet his friends. It seems like that relationship was more serious to her
Haven't listened to/watched the episode, but I thought of a podcast idea. I was thinking you guys talked about how each of you started out on YT. I've always wondered and for someone who's interested in doing this, I'd liked to hear your stories. At the end of the episode, you could answer a questions book and non-book related (asked by your followers).
Talking about the UK vs US situation: I’m from Alabama, but I live in England and the books here are CHEAPER than in the US for sure. I Can go to a Grocery store called Sainsbury’s, and get newer released books and get them for £4.50 ($6)?! You can’t beat that. Also the conversion of £ to $ depends on the day, but usually £1 is worth between $1.15-$1.30, again, depending on the day.
This episode was so much fun! Always looking forward to tune in and listen to you guys.❤ Is so interesting to see what others thought of books you have also read. Also good luck Sara🤗Hope it goes great!
they can be very cheap in the UK though!! some paperbacks can be as little as £3 ($4) or £5 ($6.50)and even the happy place hardback was £7.50 in some stores on release day which is only $9.75 in us dollars!!
@@juliakoczor Right, I just mean that Des and Sarah said that books are expensive in America (United States) and I wanna comment that they´re really expensive in Latin America as well. Even the paperbacks in here are expensive, don´t let me talk about the hardcovers or the special editions
@@boop1210 oh absolutely i get it but even comparing our book prices to US i would say they're already wayyy more than UK! I've heard other countries like Canada/Australia too are even more extreme for paperbacks too.. i guess we got lucky here haha
agreed!!! some of these platforms are very judgmental, negative, and hateful. ex: a lot of people hate on co ho and then will hate on you for not joining in the hate with them. in reality, i don’t have the energy or time to hate on anything/anyone. hate doesn’t fix anything 🤷🏽♀️
Yeess In Australia we pretty much never get hardback new releases, the hardcovers will be a available after a few months. But yeah mostly new releases are the larger paperbacks then they get released in the normal/smaller size
castles crumbling is sooo good just keep listening and you will get it pls !!!!but also i love nothing new so maybe we just don’t have the same taste LOL i do love timeless and i can see you they are my top 2
On the topic of collecting: I personally do not have the space for excess books (nor the money yet), so I always see if I can get books from the library. And our library system has an app to put books on hold as well as ship (?) books from other libraries within it's "system". It does take multiple weeks for a book to get sent in, if it's not at my library, but it's well worth it so as to not spend fifteen dollars on a book I'll potentially not like. Granted, this is coming from a person with hobbies outside of reading, which I spend my money on. For someone who only reads, I can see the appeal of owning your own books and wanting to see all of it on a shelf. I have all my art supplies using up shelf space at the moment, so the books are all crammed in their own spot. On topic of bookmarks: I use them all the time. Mostly because I can't read a book in one sitting. But I use paint chips as book marks (I know, really weird) and I pick the color of paint chip according to book troupe/cover color/vibes I think it'll give off. Weird, I know, but I can't have my dystopian read be a hot pink bookmark, as I can't have a fluffy romance be a dark navy/forest green color. And bookmarks are also useful to help me stay focused and on the line. Like, sometimes I can speed up my reading pace if I have a bookmark, or cover parts of the book I haven't read yet --- so I don't accidentally spoil anything.
The hardback paperback thing is definitely just for the money since they are more expensive and then they do paperback when the hype has died down a little. The cover changes is publisher wanting to get a wider audience and tries changing the cover to attract new readers.
Sara! I love Love Island! I haven’t watched the new season yet tho. And Too hot To Handle bothered me so much because how can you be struggling that hard to not go all the way with someone you just met, with 100k-200k on the line
possible unpopular opinion: saying a book is a certain trope e.g enemies to lovers is sort of spoiling it or at the very least spoiling the reading experience and element of surprise going into a book.. like shatter me for example EVERYONE knows now about aaron warner and the romance with him even if they haven't read the book but it hits sooo much better when you go into it blind!!
for the first take about quotes, i never like reading them because then when i actually read the quote in the book it doesn’t hit the same, since i’ve already seen it all over the internet

The way Destiny picks on Sara is so cute and funny lol. Acting like she hates the book Sara enjoys for her reaction 😂
Totally me with my friends.
