+RedroomStudios I've never smoked so I particularly hated the ciggy side of aviation, we even served cute little packages of cigarettes after the meals. The Electra II had a lounge at the back and people used to go there to smoke but to be fair it wasn't terribly smoky, I think the cabin air was changed more frequently, today they don't change the air as much as they should to save on fuel and money.

Great job, truly the golden years for air travel. Unfortunately, the airlines today have tried so hard to make flying appeal to everybody that it appeals to nobody.

Sorry to burst your balloon, sir, but that is not Robert Reed. The gentleman featured there, near the end, does resemble Mr. Reed, for sure, but that is definitely not 'Mr. Brady'.
Besides the theme of the airlines in the 1960's this music works for me otherwise. Definitely want to hear this, it's classical, beautiful and chic! 👍🙂
Wonderful music, and goegeous stewardesses! That was when both were classy and designed for us chauvinists were allowed to admire and compliment a woman for her style. "I'll have some Grey Poupon wit that please." Look at any 1960's ad in the NYT's magazine section...ahhhhhh! Thanks jrrylpz

@@Desertduleler_88 That was true in the 60s as well, and it didn't affect them. Real reason is because capitalism serves the interests of the capitalist class, as opposed to the working class. I've always tried to explain what the "other" Sixties' music was (i.e., what "square" adults would've listened to during the psychedelic era.) This is a perfect example. I suppose this is what the characters in "Mad Men" would groove to!
Air travel actually used to be fun. I was lucky enough just to catch the tail end of that era of flying. The only thing that was very bad was smoking on the airplanes. Most adults smoked ( 68% of all male and female adults smoked then) For non-smokers or for people with asthma it was absolute torture. Your lungs and eyes would be burning the whole flight and it was not unusual to get off the plane feeling sick from all the tobacco smoke.
I am automatically thinking of Pan Am (airlines); the famous (Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin/Sammy Davis Jr./Joey Bishop/Peter Lawford) Rat Pack group of the 1950's (Las Vegas, Nevada) or Swingin' 1960's era/period, of course... when smoking on airplanes, in restaurants or in bars were still legal - along with drinking coffee (like coffee and donuts, for the police diet); Brazilian Bossa Nova stuff ("The Girl From Ipanema" song)... Rio (De Janeiro) - exotic women (with the thongs), hot beaches, long carnaval festivals and the cable car ride to the Sugarloaf mountain, with the Jesus statue overlooking the clear blue ocean...
What's the story with the gal at 1:43 wearing a plastic bubble on her head. Was this an actual airline uniform at some point? Never saw anything like this in my 36 years with the airline.
When they would serve you a hot meal of steak, chicken or fish (your choice), give you slippers, a blanket and pillow. Not charge for headphones. Passengers actually dressed up to travel (no wife beater tee shirts, sweat pants and sandles). And you could smoke without being shot. And the stewardesses were actually hired in great part based on their good looks.
ALSO, back when everyone smoked and thought that it's good for you, when baby boomers had sex, drugs, and rock n' roll, when LBJ stated he's going to stop the Vietnam War but lied, when blacks were oppressed and called "niggers". Good times! :D
Lovely, but I'm sure glad they don't let folks smoke anymore on venues like this. I'm old enough to remember when that wasn't the case. Love all the retro except that. Nice video and class music.
