Please read about Pullman. He was so hated, they buried him under many feet of concrete with rebar. They were afraid his grave would be defiled. He was a horrible person. Look him up.
Henry Hamilton Honore was born on the 19th Feb 1854, in Kentucky Louisville. He was an American business man. His wife was Elizabeth Carr. Henry died in August 1916. His children were Bertha Palmer ( which you visited) and Ida Marie Honore' Henry grew up between his Grandfather's townhouse, and the plantation that was owned by his Father. Apparently, he was the Pioneer Developer of Chicago. Bertha Palmer his Daughter married another American businessman Potter Palmer...who was responsible for much of the development of State Street in Chicago. Hope this helps with you're question on the man.
When I see all of these grand monuments, I can't help but wonder what they cost when they were purchased, and what they might have cost today. They are works of art. Thanks for taking us here. It is beautiful. Hope you are having a great weekend and God bless!
Interesting place for Ludwig Wolff... Love going through cemeteries. Ludwig Wolff emigrated with his family from Germany to Chicago in 1854, when he was 18 years old. The following year, he started a small plumbing business with Torrence McGuire that specialized in making copper and brass plumbing devices for candy and alcohol manufacturers, even making its own alcohol for a time.
I will be in Chicago this week, I will see if I can visit this place. I’m doing an Amtrak trip lol. Wow 3:22 that is amazing!!! 8:38 yes you can find out a lot. I am a genealogy nut, and it’s very fun to research. Sometimes you find out some interesting surprises too lol
I think Graceland Cemetery should be a trip every High School history class (that resides in Illinois) should visit. If your studying Chicago at all, it's the place to go. You're right a ton of prominent Chicagoan's are buried here and you couldn't ask for a better history lesson!
During his lifetime, Ludwig Wolff was rumored to be afraid he would be buried alive. According to Ursula Bielski, who gives "History and Haunting" walking tours of Graceland Cemetery, a vent that sits atop a built-up mound above his tomb includes a ventilation system with actual bells and whistles intended to prevent it from happening. It has also been said that residents of the apartment buildings on Montrose Avenue, located directly across from the Wolff tomb, have seen the ghost of Wolff's wolf hound pacing in front of the entrance, especially on nights with a full moon. As Graceland Cemetery has been a popular destination of coyotes for many decades, it might be easier for the doubters to explain this phenomenon.
Alot of the people with mausoleum of Graceland Cemetary when the city started and these people were movers and shakers and loved respected people of the cities john Hughes and Harold Remis Jerry Springer Sid Luckman Walter Payton Abraham Lincoln Gale Sayers Brian Piccolo Ernie Banks AL Capoene Harry Carey Mayor Richard Daly John Belushi William Wrigley etc.

I do not know who Honore was. I did notice that Potter Palmer's wifes maiden name was Honore. Probably old line Chicago family?
That Was Mrs Palmers Family.

All thanks to the rural cemetery movement.
