A great march, written by Thornton Barnes Boyer in 1881, celebrating the regimental band of the 71st NY Infantry Regiment, which was led by Thomas Joyce in the period post- Civil War. As a military musician, I have played this piece dozens of times and it's always a favorite. From E-flat minor to E-flat major, the piece is a little atypical, which makes it all the more exciting to play and to listen to.
Dayummm bruthaaa, you goooooddd. Keep it up. I listen to the marine band’s tuba’s, and I like how you play out with confidence lol them. Good low brass is IMPORTANT
This specific recording is particularly good. I especially like the bass trombone in the repeat of the dogfight and the piccolo throughout. You played the runs very well also, not easy to do on bass instruments!
Great ears! I’ve always thought the bass trombone in the recording doubles down a little more in the repeat of the dogfight, it’s got just a little more edge than the first time around. Aside from that small detail, yes the entire recording is fantastic! It’s of my favorites.
I just realised the fingerings you were using. Is this a CC Tuba by any chance?? 🤔 If so, that's so cool. I don't see those a lot as I've only seen or played on BBb, Eb or F. I'm not a tuba player myself, but as a bass trombonist and (low horn) hornist, whenever we play with the tubas, it's such a spectacle
Do you share your sheet music anywhere? I love all of these, and as a tuba student looking to take it to a higher level of playing I think some of these runs could be helpful in practice
Thanks Cameron, I appreciate it! I'm using a Zoom H6 about 6-7 feet away and slightly above my bell. There's fancier microphones than the H6, but I love using it for the convenience of having a microphone and an audio interface all in one device!
I’m using a Zoom H6 microphone placed about 6-7 feet away and slightly above my bell. I don’t do much to the sound except slight volume modification to match with the recording better.

Man, NY had some great bands in the Civil War. Grafulla's 7th regt. band was pretty famous, too.
Oh my God I immediately have fallen in love with this march and this is the first time I've heard it. Excellent playing.
Thanks! I also love the march and think it's kind of a hidden gem compared to other more popular marches.
same
Played this in the Marine Band at Parris Island. Great music!

Definitely got my foot tapping, sounds amazing. Keep up the good work!
I like this a lot; however I've never heard it played like a circus romp, like The Cage until now.
This is some very impresve Tuba playing! ❤
YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!!
Sounds great man!!
Bravo! Horn player here. Have you ever played either of the two Strauss horn concertos? My music history prof played #1 on the tuba once, outstanding
Thank you! I’ve only played the first horn concerto, but I’m familiar with both. Horn pieces sit somewhat nicely on tuba.
Great mix!

Send me an email. Most of what I play is public domain, but I do have these marches compiled.
Çok iyi ❤
love your tone and great playing. the tempo feels so high to me is it meant for running or something?
Omg
Sounds way too good man! What mic set up are you using, it's ludicrously clear!
