Domestic first class is almost never worth it (maybe NY to LA?). It's usually just a slightly bigger seat and an airplane meal. Not the menu that is served international
Did you not join the various airline mileage clubs? As much as you traveled before, you should have been able to accrue enough points for first class with minimal outlay.
I got to upgrade to first class once. It was so amazing. It was a short two hour flight. So it was short and sweet. Amazed that I got china and real silver. My last flight to Thailand was brutal. 24 hrs in coach. Thought I was going to die or at least need knee surgery since the seats had no leg room and the man in front of me weighed 400 lbs so he was crushing my knees before he even reclined.

If you learn how to properly redeem those points in the sweet spots, you will likely be able to go business much more often. Honestly, it would be beneficial to learn as you only scratched the surface in regards to points redemptions
Once you turn left, it’s really hard to go the other direction on a plane…especially on a long haul flight. I don’t go unless I can at least fly Premium Economy…the regular economy is just too uncomfortable for long haul anymore (they squeeze too many seats into the cabin and you can barely recline). Rooky mistake not sleeping when you have lie flat, but understandable on this first experience.
Like kids in a playground! ;-D. I hope you had time for the Polaris lounge in Chicago. Technically the United Polaris long haul flights are business class but you get pampered non the less. I'm looking forward to the Christmas market episode, we have that on the radar for next December. Cheers!
I think it’s worth it when you’re flying international. At my age & height, it is miserable to be an economy. Those life flat seats are a lifesaver for my knees and back. Good for you.!
If you want to experience proper business class Qatar Airlines is the bomb. They set you up just the way you prefer to spend time with them. Proper food, a real array of food options and serious good wine and cocktails. In my opinion a true step up from any business class American airline. @@melissacarson9047 Most U.S. airlines don't offer a true "First Class" cabin in international. Somewhat ironically, domestic first class tends to be less luxurious than international business class. Airlines that do have a true First Class international cabin tend to offer larger spaces such as small rooms with doors, beds that can be joined together with a travel companion, showers, and in a few specific instances multi-room suites. I've never flown any of the international first class cabins, but was lucky enough to get upgraded to business class once from Denver to Frankfurt... lay flat seats are amazing on an overnight flight. In this case, United themselves calls their Polaris cabin "Business Class reimagined" ... I'm not sure why the insistence on calling it First Class in the video, it is Uniteds best offering...
Omg! You guys deserved that! So I specifically got a credit card that earns travel points just so I can upgrade in the future! I just wish I knew how many points it will take to do it. How does one obtain that information?
Assuming that your credit card awards points within a specific airlines frequent flyer programme you will need an account with the airline (presumably one was opened for you?) and they will be able to inform you of how many points are required for a specific thing.
Yeah, but no. Flying international business class is an awesome experience depending on airline. But click baiting with first class leaves me as a hard no thank you. First and last time seeing your channel because of that. Good luck and safe travels.
@@sandyosullivan Perhaps but what does that say for their credibility? They say that they have been travelling full time for 8 years but they still don't know the difference between First Class and Business Class?
@@Ben-xe8ps I hear you, I think their riff is around being clueless and not doing any research, I think they've confessed to this on a few occasions. Having said that, this is getting it really wrong, and I don't really know how much you can not be aware of at least what other RUclipsrs are doing (maybe they never watch others?) which would show this pretty clearly. On the other hand, it is completely odd that these US based airlines get away with talking about base level economy being business class, and this kind of business class being framed as First Class. I guess it shows that they just make up their own rules, and clearly from the comments from US folks, they buy it. I wouldn't mind if the cost wasn't outrageously more than you'd expect to pay for similar (especially for BC fares that are basically economy with a bit of extra leg room).
Also I'm not sure that RUclipsrs who travel for a living have 'credibility'. It can be entertaining, but I doubt it's providing advice for how to travel or live your life.
Many people gets confused with different airlines class of service. In US domestic market, there is economy, premium economy, and first class. But in reality is that domestic first class really should be called business class but in US, they like to label it first class as that sounds better. With international flights, there is first, business, premium economy, and then economy class. US airlines only have business, premium economy, and economy. They used to have first class but they eliminated them as they realized that most people are willing to pay cash for business class but not first class. Currently only AA has international first class but they are eliminating that very soon. The seats you were on are United Polaris business class seats. They are comfortable but definitely not the best business class seats out there. There are other better business class seats products with middle eastern and Asian airlines. Some like Qatar airways’ business class seats are almost as good as a lot of first class seats out there. With that said, even within Qatar airways, they have different types of business class seats. Currently the best ones are called QSuites. If you compare that product with United’s Polaris seats, you will find the former one much better. With that said, United Polaris is a very comfortable way to fly and congrats on trying Polaris out for the first time. If you paid with points, you probably used a lot of points for your seats. You will want to plan much more in advance if you want to use less points for your seats. If you want to try Lufthansa first class where they service you caviar and seats are wider, your best chance is to book within two weeks on United.com. The number of points you use will be very similar to the number of points you used for tickets in this video. Thus you are better off flying Lufthansa in first class across Atlantic than flying United Polaris. Miles/ points game can be a bit complicated but once you have a good grasp of it, it can make long international flights in business or first class affordable.
In the humble opinion of this traveler there is no American airline that does business/first class right, and don’t start me on their lounges. Its just way overpriced for what you get. Give me Qatar any day of the week. 😊❤
Ya, it's sounding like we need to give first class another go with a better airline (with an actual first class...not just premium business like ours apparently was, oops! 😅)

To be honest, that’s not even as flash as most business class flights I’ve taken. It looks much more like the kind of faux first class that they have for internal flights in the US.
Why people want to take their shoes off on a plane is an absolute mystery to me. The floors are NEVER vacuumed, the bathroom floors are still wet, and feet stink.
I always fly USAF 1 class! Nothing better than air safe MRE Meal, a canvas seat, and a curtain to pull around you while you try to use the toilet tube.
Don't expect that level of First Class on domestic flights. Last time I flew domestic First Class 2 years ago it was an utter joke. Domestic First Class used to be nice back in the day
Polaris is considered a "business class" option on United Airlines, offering a premium experience on long-haul international flights, essentially acting as their top-tier business class rather than a separate first class cabin on those routes.

Germany??
@@Ben-xe8ps Thanks for that! ❤ I think I have a lot of investigating to do! LOL
You missed your chance at the Polaris lounge!
Missing the lounge is so sad. That lounge is great.
Yeah, but no. Flying international business class is an awesome experience depending on airline. But click baiting with first class leaves me as a hard no thank you. First and last time seeing your channel because of that. Good luck and safe travels.
I honestly don’t think it’s a bait and switch. I think they’re just a bit clueless.
What happened to your house?
Mile High Club?
Definitely not worth it if you have to pay full fare, but if you compare it to Economy, then yes, anything seems wonderful
That's one year's worth of grocery budget for this poor old dog.

Dang you were so close to me I'm in Wisconsin lol 🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️
Awsome. Now i know what im missing & can't afford.
You two are a hoot! And, so precious. I love watching your adventures!!!
Listen travel points are confusing. The pros at travel points are Kara and Nate, they could help you get the most from your fun adventures using points and miles.
I agree. Kara & Nate know all about flying 1st class, on a dime
I dream of flying first class every time I fly economy.
Allison & Eric you need to contact Kara & Nate and the Daily Drop to save loads on flight tickets and give you more opportunities to fly first class.hopefully you both enjoyed the experiences and for a cheeky upgrade on the way home you never know
Kara and Nate created “The daily drop” they are I believe since 2016 traveling . To show other others, the dance around the points, etc..
Funny thing is they have met and have a collaboration video from years ago
To be honest, that’s not even as flash as most business class flights I’ve taken. It looks much more like the kind of faux first class that they have for internal flights in the US.
United Polaris is marketed and sold as Business Class. They were NOT travelling First Class, just pretending to be.
I’ve been following you since the beginning! I’m so freaking excited for you guys! YAAASSS! FABULOUS ADVENTURERS ❤
That's why business class gives you slippers.
Great video. But that looks like Walmart's idea of first class...
If don't mind me asking, how old are you both. I'm ancient 48 years old.
You guys should talk to Nate from Kara and Nate for points on how to travel with them
How exciting!! 🎉❤ Flying in style 💯💯
Some gluhwein?
LOL " A FANNY PACK THING" sir thats an amenity kit
Don't expect that level of First Class on domestic flights. Last time I flew domestic First Class 2 years ago it was an utter joke. Domestic First Class used to be nice back in the day
That doesn't look like 1st class at all! That looks like business class!!✌🐢
Polaris is considered a "business class" option on United Airlines, offering a premium experience on long-haul international flights, essentially acting as their top-tier business class rather than a separate first class cabin on those routes.
Exactly. MY thought too.
It is Business Class.
It’s not even a good business class.
Before using LMNT, check with your Dr. Especially if have been diagnosed with High blood pressure, heart disease or kidney disease.
Since seeing the movie Airplane...no fish on a plane...
I was excited when you guys had announced you had left the country, EURO CHRISTMAS MARKET LES GOOOOOOOOO ❤
It’s always worth it - from the POV of someone who frequently flies in the front of the plane!!! Those overseas long haul flights are just much better in business or first class!!!
Hope y'all weren't going to Germany....and are safe!
