Years ago in high school, we had a friend that had emigrated to Canada from Glasgow. We were over at their house and we were listing to an audio tape of Billy Connelly. The entire family were in tears laughing and us Canadians has no clue what he was saying. Fortunately I can now understand Billy.

I grew up in Glasgow, and I had a number of experiences like this growing up. One that sticks in my mind was when as a 15-year-old, I was standing in George Square, Glasgow at the two lions statue to meet a girl who didn't turn up. I was a skinny kid, and all of a sudden, this huge man about 35 comes up to me with a knife and asks me how much money I had and to hand it over. It was 1975, and I handed over about 1.30 pounds, but I realised that this would mean that I couldn't get a bus home to Drumchapel( about 10 miles out of town) where I lived.
I said to him: " Hold on mate, you're taking everything I have, and I live in Drumchapel, and I have nothing for busfare. He looked at me, and went: " sigh, how much is your busfare?" I said 30 pence, so he looks at me and said: " I ( meaning him) must be an idiot" and proceeded to give me 30 pence back for my busfare and wallked away.
At least I got home. The moral of story is that even the muggers in Glasgow have a heart.

I love how as an American, you comment "I've definitely never had that experience at a bus stop.." Amanda.
Well no indeed. Because whilst your average American hoodlum may not be as polite as Kevin claims the Glaswegian thug is, they are not so stupid as to pick on some rando at a bus stop who might just retort "nah you're all right dude. I'm armed and will shoot you if you don't **** off.."
We can definitely safely assume that the polite thug in Kevin's story has probably by now been kicked to death by some bigger Glaswegian criminal that he inadvisably picked on one night.

Oh. And another thought. Seeing as you like lairy comics, you have to check out Jim Jeffries. Savage but hilarious - especially his earlier stuff. Surprised you haven't done him, to be honest. An Aussie Jimmy Carr/Frankie Boyle 😂😂😂
