I am sorry for all the hardship and uncertainty you are going through. You are a well spoken individual and deserve to be treated by caring professionals who are skilled listeners.
HI erob, the problem I describe in this video between the 8 and 11 minute mark actually was a problem with the lens and I needed another surgery to rotate the lens. Had the DR and his staff listened to me they would have known that. That particular problem was NOT a result of the vitrectomy. Sorry for my late reply, and hope you have progressed nicely over the recent months.
Your videos have been so helpful, especially when trying to explain to someone else what your vision is like. I had my vitrectomy 110 days ago. I certainly thought my vision would be much better by now. My Doctor talks down to me too. Not sure what their problem is. I go back for a checkup tomorrow and I’m not looking forward to it. Letters aren’t on top of each other for me but they are bent and blurry. He didn’t want to see me for another 4 months and I complained and told him that I just couldn’t see. He did another test and he saw a macular pucker that was caused by the surgery. He matter of factly said well we could just do another surgery to laser that down and then do a cataract surgery later. He said my cataract isn’t bad. My regular doctor said a lot of his patients have puckers so maybe I won’t have to have that surgery. I caught mine right away. I was driving home from work one day and notices a back curtain in my eye. They did the surgery within 48 hours. Not sure why whites are so yellow with my bad eye. This has definitely been one of the worst years of my life. People don’t get it unless they have been through it. Thank you again. I certainly hope by now that your sight is much improved.
Hi YF, The letters were on top of each other for me because my replacement lens put in my eye after cataract surgery was rotated in my eye incorrectly. If you have astigmatism, the lens has a top and a bottom and the lens has to be put in and stay in the proper rotation. Mine was a 1/4 turn off. Making my astigmatism worse, not better. Since you haven' t had cataract surgery, your issues are different. Whites being yellow sounds like a lens issue and an early cataract to me. I noticed blues are blue again and not so gray/green as I thought they were. Bluebirds look awesome again. I wish you the best. Was a gas put in your eye? if so, how long until it dissipated?
Kevin keep posting videos about your continuing journey. I have found them to be brutally honest and extremely helpful. So few people seem to have information on the web about the full impact this kind of surgery can have. You are almost made to believe it’s a walk in the park and it’s not!
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences as it was very helpful. It really is great to hear from somebody who has actually been through it and doesn't sugar coat it. I hope things continue to improve for you and wish you the very best of luck!
Thank you. Your experience has been way more informative than the trickle on info the doctors let me have. I am one week post op. I am around 40% gas now. It is like a shrinking island of real blurriness surrounded by less blurriness. I have notice a fogginess on the lens in the surrounding increasing in size Peripherie. Actually hoping for the cataract as I am -10 and the probability of the left eye getting a tear is high. I would rather have the lenses changed than to go through a tear on the left eye as well. Hating the horizontal facedown position. So looking forward to lying on my back again. Please keep the videos coming. They are much appreciated. God Bless, Paul Sudbrock Wittenberg, Germany.
Thanks for your great videos. I wish you could have added one move video to elaborate the progress from 4.5 months to one year. Regardless. I am very thankful for sharing your experience that many of us are facing with. God Bless.
Hi JS, I just don't know that I had a lot to say in that period about my vitrectomy / retinal detachment. I had some issues really related to my cataract surgery, but, anyone could have had those issues who has cataract surgery and astigmatism if the replacement lens is not rotated correctly.
Thanks Kevin, I am in my 6th week, and everything makes sense.... keep posting your recover over the first year it has been very helpful, God bless you
Thanks, will do Francisco! I did post a video of where I was 1 year after the surgery. Maybe you've seen it by now. I'm glad this info was a help to you.
I just had the same surgery on my left eye. And I am having similar issues. The gas bubble is still lingering and vision is very blurry and crossed. I also have bent lines. It is so aggravating. Thank you for you information. Keep posting, hope you vision gets better and I am sorry for all of your frustration. I definitely feel your pain.
Hi Anthony, It is a long journey, full of frustration. I've learned to live with my limits and losses. I'm aware things could be worse. I feel that by the time I made my "1 year Later video" I was near the end of the journey. My best to you thru your healing process.
Kevin, my surgeon was pretty straight with me. I had my Retina detachment done the first week of Feb 2020. Its a long process, my doctor had me wait until today 10/16/20 he wanted my eye to completely hear before they did anything. My surgeon said my eye will never be the same once they screw with the back of your eye will distort sharp vision the rest of our lives. My was a complete detachment my letters are twisted and some are faint. Straight lines dont look staight they have a bit a of a wave to them. I look at it like he saved the vision in my left eye, im near sighted i chose to get a near sighted lense so i could balance my eyes. Because i lost my depth perception. My right eye is healthy so far if they do the same surgery on my right i would be legally blind. They are thinking they can get me back to 20/30-40 in my left eye with distortion. Good luck ill update you with my eye also.
I hope your doing better. Cataract surgery changed my life . I need readers for everything. I was a NICU nurse so it was important for me to read medicines and so I then needed them at work. I just had a vitrectomy for retinal tear and am face down. You helped me pass some time. Thank you.
It’s very devastating to hear that the retina detached after having the vitrectomy. Why die they fail? It seems that the more I research this most people had to have multiple surgeries to repair and re-attach the retina again. Why can’t these surgeons get it right in the first place? It’s so disheartening and people have to continue to take time off of work for recovery after these multiple surgeries. I feel the emotional ordeal that you and others go thru and I pray that everyone who is experiencing this to have a good and painless recovery. Let’s pray that someday people will only have one vitrectomy to attach the retina.
Hi SDE, I'm hoping one day retinal detachments won't happen because they are caught before they happen. But, that will be too late for you and me. Best of luck.
I’m a month and a half out since surgery. I just realized you have another video and I’ll check that out. Thank you. I’ve had a ton of question’s and realized it’s the description that’s creating my confusion. Thank you for doing these. So appreciated. I’m having really strange slanted disrupted vision. So I’ll watch the first one.
What an amazing video…I had surgery 1 month ago to repair a macular hole. Positioned face down 24/7 for 4 days and then no sleeping on back until gas bubble was gone (day 8). My vision in that eye is still blurry and I’m worried that I did something wrong. I go for my 1 month check in 2 days and am afraid I am the reason my sight is so blurry. I feel that I was not given enough info. as what to expect and I didn’t know the right questions to ask. Thank you so much for your insight into this problem…doctors just don’t realize that we need more information on a subject we are not familiar with.
Hi Marijane, It is an awful feeling to think that you've caused your own sight loss. I had that feeling too. It is hard to obey the protocols they want for positioning to the T. I did talk to my DR about that, and he did give me suggestions for positioning that were more reasonable than the initial instructions.
@@kbg3879 At my 1 month check I was pleased to learn that my macular hole has closed and that it’s normal for your vision to take awhile to reach total clarity. I was told that my healing progress is better than average. I was able to read 3 more lines on the eye chart than before surgery. I did have this surgery on opposite eye 8 years ago but really don’t remember the details of the recovery. I go back in 3 months and will be able to get new glasses as vision should be stabilized.
Thanks for you video's I am now 26 days out from my vitrectomy. My journey started with cataract removal and implication of light adjustable lenses which left me with distance vision in my left eye and up close vision in my right eye. Shortly after the final 'adjustment' but before the 'lock in' I experienced a PVD in my right eye and then a retinal detachment. The retinal specialist tried to repair the tear with laser. I was left with horrible jellyfish floaters but he wanted to wait several month to see if things would improve, they got worse. I had a vitrectomy and he found there was still a 'tear' that needed to be repaired with laser and he placed a bubble. The bubble resolved pretty quickly, after a two weeks but immediately post op I developed glaucoma, fortunately it was responsive to medication (oral and drops). As the bubble resolved I was horrified to see a large grey spot in my central vision, a blind spot. I immediately went in and had a fluorescein angiography which revealed I had retinal vein occlusion. The surgeon was stumped as to what could have caused this as he said that there was 'minimal bleeding' during the procedure. It will be a permanent blind spot. Apparently there can be blockages in arteries or veins. He said that he could do steroid injections but at this point as there was no macular edema he wanted to hold off. Vision in my right eye is clear with just some black floaters so that is a huge improvement but I now have a central blind spot. My left eye does try to compensate but overall my vision is blurry and distorted making it really hard to read. I also have a dull ache in my eye. I'm hoping that things improve but it is really depressing. Before this I worked as an ICU RN and at this point I just don't have the vision to be able to go back to work.
Hi Kevin, i feel so glad watching your videos about your recovery. It helped me a lot throughout my recovery. I had one question about seeing shadow like structure in your peripheral vision just after the surgery? I've experiencing this since day 1 and its bothering me i have no idea when will it recover.
Thank you for your experience. I have early signs of glaucoma and had cataract surgery in my right eye in June 2021. 4 weeks ago had detached Retina surgery. I am only 51 but have always had vision issues. I am so frustrated with my vision and am afraid I am losing it at an early age. Your story gives me a little hope.
I am at this stage right now. I will have surgery in a month after having my retina detachment surgery four month ago. Its been a journey and a lot of headache and pain in the eye. I'm hoping to see better and not to have this many headaches and frustration.
Kevin, so sorry for what you’ve been through snd how your expectations were managed along the way. My surgery was a week ago. Can’t see at all from that eye and can’t imagine driving or working again. I appreciate your videos, as this is a disconcerting and scary process.
@@kbg3879 Hi Kevin, yes I can see light and muted colors/shadows. My eye is struggling to see! I feel the strain and pull. I can see straight down, but looks like underwater. Also see mini images inside my gas bubbles! Tiny bubbles inside the main bubble! I hope you have finally recovered.
Hi Kathy - I am curious to know how your recovery is coming (and I hope that is going well!!). I am nearly 2 months into my vitrectomy surgery recovery and it looks like you are just over 4 months? Trying to find someone who had surgery closer to when I did for comparison. I am still trying to find the new baseline in my eyesight which I know will take time. Has your vision "leveled out" at this point or are you still recovering. Have you been fitted with any new glasses?
@@KP-kz2rb Hi KP, I hope you are doing well after your procedure. My vision continued to improve up to 3 months, then stopped. I had the gas bubble for 10 weeks. I just had another surgery to remove a cataract that formed after the surgery. So, now I’m recovering from that! I still have one last vitrectomy to remove scar tissue. My vision is wavy and distorted. It’s really a mess, but it’s better than going blind. So, I’m grateful. Tell me more about what you went through?
@@kathyh9792 Hi Kathy - sorry to hear your recovery has been so long! My initial description is just below this thread from 2 days ago - I was diagnosed with a Cataract last fall, had the cataract procedure on 1/7 and a few weeks later after I was experiencing some vision loss was told i had a detached retina. It was also determined that I had a secondary hole on the retina that he repaired at the same time. I has the bubble inserted - hexafloride or something like that. I had the bubble for just over 3 weeks and from what I am reading, thats shorter than most. 4-5 days face down. How and why it happened?? I was told last week I am just one of the unlucky 1% to get a DR from cataract surgery. So I have a new lens from the cataract surgery and the repaired retina which is a lot going on at once as we all know - what my new baseline vision will be and when is unclear. I have the wavy and distorted vision but manageable. I find I am still closing the repaired eye a lot - even while reading this. With my good eye shut I see double lines and a little wave. My worry is having this happen to my other eye! in a month or so we will try out some glasses to see where improvements can be made.
I have a simular diagnosis left eye lattice laser work done for now. Two retinal tears in right eye two procedures so far with one more go on Monday. If result doesn't take (scar/heal) then well you been down that road. At first i joked about eye patches and pirates. It is not a good time by any means. Thank you for sharing your story.
I have been on a similar journey, yet different. But I struggled in similar ways; in some ways my issues seem worse, in some ways your issues seem worse. I just had cataract surgery in my second eye and it brought back memories and unfinished business - unknowns, confusion, & questions from my 10 year journey. Your descriptions and careful analysis of what is happening to you is what I failed to do. (That may have been best for me due to my circumstances at the time.) Now I'm trying to be more aware of what's happening. I think it can be used to help others as well. Social media is so prevalent now whereas it was not 10 years ago. This has allowed us to learn a great deal from each other, & not only clear up our confusion and lack of information, but also heal iatrogenic emotional wounds. 😔 Your honesty about that helps. Thank you,
How is your eye now? I just had 3 wks ago an in office lazar attempt for a retinal tear and detachment at 1 oclock position that didn't work and 2 wks ago had actual vitrectomy surgery. I too am nearsighted and age 64. I wear glasses for distance but only when i need them. The doctors are not very forthright with the what to expect i agree! The thing is never having this surgery u really don't even know the questions to ask at 1st. Now i still hv a pea sized gas bubble and i see a little round shady area when i look up down in the bottom left, again its reversed my issue was at 1 the shade is at 7 , it is all very frustrating i know. Eyes r so so important to us in our daily lives. U never posted an update since 4.5 mths on your vision now, in the right and or both eyes. I found your video helpful, i go back in 3 wks but i may call doctor as i hv noticed even with the gas bubble a little round shade when i look up in the bottom left corner but hv to travel about 70 miles down to Toronto, Ont and prefer my b.f. to drive, bit easy getting down there as he works. Just wondered how u made out with your vision and did u do the cataract surgery in left eye? If u had to do it again?
Lee, I hope you are progressing. I have made progress though I believe my right eye will never equal my left. I plan to make another video soon describing what to expect 3/4ths of a year after surgery.
I have the same issues!! My eye is like yours seeing the letters but I haven't had Cataract surgery yet. Going tomorrow to see. Retina specialist recommends.
HI Dana, I had more than one issue in play, but a major contributor to my double letter issue was that my lens that was used in my first cataract surgery was not at the proper rotation. That caused a the double letter/mosaic type distortions I was seeing.
I had mine vitrectomie 8 days ago everything you describing is true....in addition to that i am focussing on healing especially Russian Techniques and use Spagyric I let you knowhow!
@@kbg3879 thanks for asking My sight in eye is still as bad since moment of trauma and vitrectomie did nothing about that Now they want cataract operation All techniques i used and spagyric etc helped me 200% with lyme disease 2 years ago But for now ....no improvement so far with my eye Have to find something else
Hi Kevin! Your video is extremely helpful. I just got vitrectomy on my left eye due to RD. Can you do video update? Just wanted to say how strong you are.
Although I did not have the exact procedures that you had, I DID experience the extreme frustration of the many attempts to get ANSWERS to my questions about procedure(s) outcome AND the request for direct advice regarding major decisions for additional procedures. What is with these retinal specialists? My doctor actually got impatient with me for detaining him beyond what he considered adequate conversation. My retinal specialist is an MD and a Phd, a learned professional. Just a zero for beside manner. Thanks for your posts---I don't feel so alone now. All the best to you.
I won’t ask the Dr. name…would you mind telling me the city state you had it done? I’m in Las Vegas, need eye surgery and thinking I should go to Mayo, Cleveland Clinic..etc.
@@jimkegley I'm in LV and have Dr. Calvo. Recovering from the 2nd surgery which was done 1 month ago because the retina detached again a couple of days after the gas bubble had dissolved. Who is your doctor?
Everything you say is so true. Doctors have no clue what one goes through during these eye procedures. It is so nerve wracking to say the least. How long after vitrectomy did you have your cataract surgery.
@@donna8826 Thank God for Kevin's post. Had it not been for him, I would not have known what to expect or whether the frustrations during recovery were "normal." The doctor told me diddly-squat!!
I’m very interested in all these comments. I had vitrectomy surgery just 5 weeks ago. I still have the gas bubble and my sight is very blurred. Reading all these comments is certainly worrying.
Hey Lesley, Hopefully you are healing well and you've had some good conversations with your doctors about what to expect as time progresses. Let us know how you're doing.
Yes you are right these comments is verry worrying I did same your surgery 5 weeks ago still bubble gas 15% and blurry vision Tell me how are you doing
Had a vitrectomy almost 2 months ago for a macular hole & my vision is still distorted & hazy. I have received devastating news that the same problem is occurring in my other eye. We’re going to watch & wait. Im not very optimistic, because my vision only got worse, requiring me to have surgery. I’m so afraid. I was depending on my “good eye” while my other eye was healing. I’m only 51 & the thought of living with this distorted, hazy vision in both eyes is depressing. I’m researching if there’s supplements or eye drops that I can take to stop the progression in my “good eye.” Any advice you have will be greatly appreciated.
You are understandably concerned. I do not know if supplements would help or not. It is worth discussing with your doctors. I am going to ask the question about vitamins and supplements of my doctors. I'll post a comment if I get any useful info. I do want to guard the good view I have in my left eye.
I was terrified too, just get someone to drive u and the surgery is not painful at all! Just do exactly what the docs say about head position after, very important! I had my lasar then vitrectomy surgery for a retina detachment and tear oct21st in right eye, i am 64. Its been several wks and my vision is now slightly blurrey and everything seems further away, i can read small print now but a little blurrey but i guess glasses will improve the difference from my right and left. Left being my strong eye. I too hope this improves with time. There r no certainties as everyone heals at different rates. All i want is my eyes to focus together but at moment my left is doing most of the work. Hope everything works out for u xo
I am at this point. I have had 7 surgeries so far. My last was my retina started lifting again, a week ago it was corrected, I got an eye full of gas, can't see much out of my eye. I don't think it will ever get better. I have had a buckle as well. I don't have much hope.
Hi Whit, I'm so sorry to hear that, and when I read of your experience, I realize what a big baby I am. I do hope you will have improvement. I wish you courage through this ordeal.
Hi Kevin your posts have been quite helpful and reassuring me that things will get better. I had a retinal detachment January 1 and I had my first surgery January 3 that required a second surgery on January 10. I’m now close to six weeks from my second surgery I had a cataract lens replaced on my second surgery with stitches removed from the first surgery treating my retinal detachment. Currently the gas bubble in my right eye is more than half way down but I have wavy vision when I look at things vertically. This is causing me to believe that it not Healing ❤️🩹 well and my vision is not looking promising. That being said it seems to have worked out well for you from watching your future videos but this is scary 🫣 stuff . You video though made me realize that this is a long recovery ❤️🩹 with different milestones.
HI Platis, yes, it is usually a long road to recovery, not everyone has recovery. That long road doesn't seem to be something the DRs often prepare their patients for. My best.
I had cataract done in 2023.age 76. A year later I went to my cataract surgery center. I said I had new floaters in my right eye. Plus a kind of a grey blurry spot floater. in my right eye. Instead of examining my eye for a retina problem they said you need YAG surgery in both eyes. Now after YAG surgery my right eye has a detached retina. It’s now 10 days and my retina is reattached. Just have to wait until the 6g gas is absorbed into my Body. Now i read that YAG surgery can cause a detached retina. Maybe if the doctor actually listened to me about my new condition in my right eye I might not have had a detached retina or better yet not required a big time surgery and instead a laser welding of my retina tear before it became detached. Us patients are not educated on retina conditions and what to watch out for. That’s the doctors responsibility and too many timrs they just rush ahead with a treatment plan that might cause bigger problems. I just hope my vision comes back ok in my right eye. I’m not going back to the eye partners ever again. I’ll just use my retina doctors in the future.
Any update on your right eye? Very helpful videos. I had vetrectomy a week ago. The bubble and looking through frosted glass is disconcerting. I too wear a patch to alleviate the distraction.
I will make an update video soon. I wanted to let enough time pass to be able to summarize the differences between the 2 eyes and the problems I still have.
Hi Kevin 👋 greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴 , recently I have a RD in my left eye, they did a surgery I’m a professional devops, in my case the use a silicone but I’m also disappointed with this. I’m just wondering how are you right now in 2022 are you able to work with computers 💻
Hello, your video was so helpful. I am at a somewhat similar situation, but a bit worse because my vitrectomy related to a macular hole, which impacts the center of the vision. I heard it takes a while for the vision to improve, up to a year. Have you witnessed improvements since this video?
Glad it was helpful! Here is the last of the 4 video series I made, this describes where I was 1 year out, which is still pretty accurate, even now. ruclips.net/video/UtP81l3Jp6Y/видео.html
Hi Calypso, it seems pretty good. However, there are lots of adjustments to make. I now need glasses to read. That is a switch in itself to get used to. I find shaving and grooming a bit harder because I cannot look to closely at anything, including my face. How's your vision progressing?
Sounds like you had the cataract surgery twice. Did they only offer you the lens for distance, and not the newer multifocal because of the prior RD surgery? From you most recent video it sounds like your vision is much improved since the first cataract surgery. I hope so. It sounds very frustrating. Thank you for sharing your experience. Super helpful!
Really appreciate your videos Kevin - fellow Kevin here. I tried to post earlier in the week and I don't think it took. I had cataract surgery on 1/7 and three weeks later it was determined that I had a significant retinal detachment and had a vitrectomy within a day of that diagnosis on 2/3. I am 6 week into my healing and still have some vision issues. Has anyone had a retinal detachment so close to a cataract surgery??
Hey K P, I'm really wondering if you were a prime candidate for a retinal detachment, and if a laser surgery to tack down the edges of your retina would have benefited you to avoid this problem. I'm curious if patients or Drs have opinions on this.
Hello there I had the vitrectomy the peeling off the membrane the cataract surgery and semi detached retina the same day. 3 hours in the surgery room. 9 month post all these I start to have some vision now. Litle vision bur blury.
@@kbg3879 Hi Kevin Geist - this is the other Kevin here.... June 28th update. Ironically in your post 3 months ago you had asked if I was a prime candidate for a retinal detachment. On a May 7th follow-up with Cataract Dr, he noticed some potential swelling and said I should up the pregnisolone and see the Retina Dr. in two weeks. Saw Retina guy and he determined the swelling was just a "wrinkle" in the scar tissue..... I did however ask him to check my other eye... the "good one" because of some floaters the past few days leading up to then and he noticed a small hole and retinal tear in the good eye!!!! So right then and there he got out the lazer and tacked down (aka spot-weld) the two areas and I was on my way home, I actually drove! No follow-up thus far and no meds or further issues with the right eye. The vitrectomy was needed as there was a significant detachment back in Feb on the left eye and because I was a frequent customer, they luckily caught the issues with the right eye. Left eye is still a bit troublesome 5 months out but small improvements are happening. How are you progressing at this point?
Hi, KP Yes, very nearsighted people (I'm a "high myope" according to the opthalmologist) have an increased risk of retinal detachment shortly after, to many years after, undergoing cataract surgery. It's why I put off cataract surgery until I couldn't drive safely anymore, and finally had to take my chances on it. (I had a peripheral, horseshoe retinal tear over 30 years ago, which was lasered right away and is still holding well to this day.) So, after a consult with the retina specialist, I was OK'ed for cataract surgery and had the right eye done two weeks ago, with the left eye to be done tomorrow. I wish I didn't have to worry about retinal tears and detachments, but I will be followed by the retinal specialist, and I guess the good news is that even most "high myopes" don't end up having a detachment due to cataract surgery, although cataract surgery does increase the risk of detachment for everyone, to some extent. I think I read that for high myopes, it's about 10% higher than for most other cataract surgery patients, for whom it's about 10%. As for tacking down the edges of the retina, the retina specialists don't seem to do that preventatively, only after there's a problem. Anyway, I hope this finds you with your vision improving...
Hi Kevin. I'm in week 9 of recovery from a vitrectomy. Just a few days ago, the gas bubble which was reduced to a dot finally disappeared. As you described in your earlier videos, the images were distorted, with ridges, but the background was clear. Last night, I felt like a soft cloud come over in the corner of my eye and now the images are not too clear--looks like I have a haze over my eye now. My doctor can't see me until tomorrow, and I'm very concerned. Not sure if it's expected after the bubble is gone, and is another hurdle to overcome while recovering. Did you experience something similar?😊
@@sangya986 Hi! Unfortunately, the retina had detached again, and had a second surgery. This time, an oil bubble was placed and is supposed to be in for about 3 months. Once it's determined that all is well, I'll need another surgery to remove the oil. It's been 1 month since the 2nd surgery, and have a follow-up appointment with my doctor this week. I'm praying that I'm making progress.

Hi Daria, I can relate. While my retinal surgeon was not disrespectful. I did have another medical procedure where the DR and his staff refused to listen to my input about what I was experiencing, saying it wasn't relevant, and I knew it was relevant. I had to see another DR to convince them. So frustrating. I do hope you are having a good outcome now, or at least what you expected.
Hi Sonia, I had a few weeks to adjust, but, I did go back to work before the bubble was gone. I was back to work 2 weeks and the pandemic hit, so, I kind of had a "lucky" break. I was managing in those 2 weeks, but, it certainly was difficult. my best to you
Hi Robert, I did have a special chair that I rented for the week after the surgery. It was a big help to allow me to keep my head down. It is in this video. I don't have more details on how to position than what I already shared. However, once you have the chair, there is pretty much only one way to sit in it. I suggest you rent one immediately. I am glad that my doc's office suggested one and game me the contact info to get it.

Martin, I am so sorry to read this. I can only begin to imagine how hard it is for you. Did your DR speak of doing the surgery again, but using oil to support the retina? Would you want to get an opinion from another surgeon?
Hi Darshan, Have you talked to your surgeon about why your vision is blurry and yellow? What are the next steps? cataract surgery? Wishing you the best thru this long process.
I was just wondering if your wavy lines ever improved. I am 10 months out now, and I just realized today that the lines are nowhere near as wavy as they used to be. It made me wonder about you.
Hi Nicole, I'm not sure how much they've improved and how much my brain has learned to ignore them. So, when I look thru only one eye, I still see them, but otherwise, I'm not bothered by them.
Hi Michael, I did find that I often got better explanations from my regular eye DR than I did from my surgeons. So, I'd suggest when you go to your regular eye DR for follow-ups, ask a lot of questions there too. Good luck
Hi i have same issue in my right eye. After 5 month doctor diagnostic cataract. Doctor say for monofocal Lance. Pls suggest me you go for which type of Lance.
Hi Vishal, I'm not sure that I'm able to tell you the best lens for you. If your DR cannot explain why mono focal is best for you, try seeing another DR. DRs should be willing and eager to make clear your options. I wish you the best
For once in 3 years, someone else feels my EXACT pain!!! Your video is PERFECT!! You and I had similar experiences and also similar outcomes!!! Thank you for sharing I know I am not alone😖😖😓 Dallas, Tx
Hi Aled, I just posted my 1 year after surgery update. I hope you find it helpful. As you say, this is no walk in the park. Eyesight is so important.
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences as it was very helpful. It really is great to hear from somebody who has actually been through it and doesn't sugar coat it. I hope things continue to improve for you and wish you the very best of luck!
HI Jo, Yes, it is not a sweet story, that is for sure. Best of luck to you too.
Hi Paul, it was a frustration to me to, the trickle as you call it, well said. All my best.
Thank you!! I’m 2 weeks ‘post pucker’ and have most of your symptoms & frustrations. Nice to know it’s a long term recovery. Well done!
Hey David, yeah, it is so LONG. Hope you are coming along well.
Clayton, I hope you are doing OK. Is your right eye still doing well?
Hi I want to know what happen to your vision, is it back to normal now after 4 years? I just had my vitrectomy surgery too about 2 weeks ago,..
I hope your doing better. Cataract surgery changed my life . I need readers for everything. I was a NICU nurse so it was important for me to read medicines and so I then needed them at work. I just had a vitrectomy for retinal tear and am face down. You helped me pass some time. Thank you.
Well, I'm glad I did a little good. It's so distressing to have your vision threatened.
Hi DD, wising you all the best. I know it is such a process.
Thank you for sharing. 7 months in now and I still have no actual vision. 4 surgeries including cataract. Feeling quite discouraged. 😢
Hey Troy, so sorry to read this, it seems you really have something to complain about, my losses were minor in comparison.
Hi Heidi, I hope you have been progressing and that your glaucoma is under control.
I am at this stage right now. I will have surgery in a month after having my retina detachment surgery four month ago. Its been a journey and a lot of headache and pain in the eye. I'm hoping to see better and not to have this many headaches and frustration.
Hi Leticia, I hope you are continuing to get better. As you said, it is a journey. Wishing you the best,
Kevin, so sorry for what you’ve been through snd how your expectations were managed along the way. My surgery was a week ago. Can’t see at all from that eye and can’t imagine driving or working again. I appreciate your videos, as this is a disconcerting and scary process.
Can you see light? I wish you the best, it is a scary process.
Just had rRNA detachment with Mac off. Your talks reassure me….about my eye
Hi Belinda, I'm glad they were of use to you. My best.
Chad, yes, the prospect of reduced sight is always scary. I hope things go well for you.
@@kbg3879 thanks i have a good ophthalmologist who tells it straight.
Your honesty about that helps. Thank you,
Hi Jan, It is quite a series of ordeals to endure. I'm glad my story was helpful to you. Wishing you the best on this journey.
How are things going for you at this point? I hope you are doing ok.
@@kbg3879 thanks for asking
My sight in eye is still as bad since moment of trauma and vitrectomie did nothing about that
Now they want cataract operation
All techniques i used and spagyric etc helped me 200% with lyme disease 2 years ago
But for now ....no improvement so far with my eye
Have to find something else
Hi Kevin! Your video is extremely helpful. I just got vitrectomy on my left eye due to RD. Can you do video update? Just wanted to say how strong you are.
I just uploaded a video on life one year after RD and vitrectomy. I hope you find it helpful. How have you been progressing?
Although I did not have the exact procedures that you had, I DID experience the extreme frustration of the many attempts to get ANSWERS to my questions about procedure(s) outcome AND the request for direct advice regarding major decisions for additional procedures. What is with these retinal specialists? My doctor actually got impatient with me for detaining him beyond what he considered adequate conversation. My retinal specialist is an MD and a Phd, a learned professional. Just a zero for beside manner. Thanks for your posts---I don't feel so alone now. All the best to you.
Yes DT, that is true. It is like pulling teeth to get meaningful answers.
4.5 months.
Yes you are right these comments is verry worrying I did same your surgery 5 weeks ago still bubble gas 15% and blurry vision
Tell me how are you doing
This video gives me hope. I plan to post as well (though I know nothing about doing so).
Do you feel you have good communication with your doctors? What have they stated about your current and future abilities ? I wish you all the best.
What about a second or third opinion? I haven't had surgery yet and I am terrified.
Me too.
After RD surgery 6 months back I also got cataract surgery a week back. Eyes still blurry sight.
Hi Sanjiv, I'm sorry to hear that. How's it going now?
I am at this point. I have had 7 surgeries so far. My last was my retina started lifting again, a week ago it was corrected, I got an eye full of gas, can't see much out of my eye. I don't think it will ever get better. I have had a buckle as well. I don't have much hope.
Hi Whit, I'm so sorry to hear that, and when I read of your experience, I realize what a big baby I am. I do hope you will have improvement. I wish you courage through this ordeal.
I’m so sad about how disappointed you been I hope it’s not the same for my mom :(
Hi Super, I hope things are going well in your mom's treatment. How is she doing?
Hi Kevin your posts have been quite helpful and reassuring me that things will get better. I had a retinal detachment January 1 and I had my first surgery January 3 that required a second surgery on January 10. I’m now close to six weeks from my second surgery I had a cataract lens replaced on my second surgery with stitches removed from the first surgery treating my retinal detachment. Currently the gas bubble in my right eye is more than half way down but I have wavy vision when I look at things vertically. This is causing me to believe that it not
Healing ❤️🩹 well and my vision is not looking promising.
My best.
Thank you.........
You're welcome!
Hi MIke, It is hard to know as a patient if a DR is really doing what is in your best interest.
Hi H3, I'm doing pretty well, I talk about that in my 1 year after video, but, I'm very fortunate. How are you progressing?
Hello, your video was so helpful. I am at a somewhat similar situation, but a bit worse because my vitrectomy related to a macular hole, which impacts the center of the vision. I heard it takes a while for the vision to improve, up to a year. Have you witnessed improvements since this video?
Glad it was helpful! Here is the last of the 4 video series I made, this describes where I was 1 year out, which is still pretty accurate, even now. ruclips.net/video/UtP81l3Jp6Y/видео.html
I wanted to ask you. How is your vision after the cataract surgery? After almost one year?
Hi Calypso, it seems pretty good. However, there are lots of adjustments to make. I now need glasses to read. That is a switch in itself to get used to. I find shaving and grooming a bit harder because I cannot look to closely at anything, including my face. How's your vision progressing?
@@kbg3879 i am still waiting everything is blury
Sounds like you had the cataract surgery twice. Did they only offer you the lens for distance, and not the newer multifocal because of the prior RD surgery? From you most recent video it sounds like your vision is much improved since the first cataract surgery. I hope so. It sounds very frustrating. Thank you for sharing your experience. Super helpful!
Hi Beth, yes my vision is much improved after the surgery to rotate the lens to the proper position.
Hi, what did your doctor say?
@@sangya986 Hi! Unfortunately, the retina had detached again, and had a second surgery. This time, an oil bubble was placed and is supposed to be in for about 3 months. Once it's determined that all is well, I'll need another surgery to remove the oil. It's been 1 month since the 2nd surgery, and have a follow-up appointment with my doctor this week. I'm praying that I'm making progress.
@@janielopez2928 Hey! Be positive. Everything will be alright. Trust me it takes time. I had vitrectomy too my retina was in bad condition but recovery is very slow idk what's gonna happen but trying to keep hopes up. I wish you get a speedy recovery. 💐
@@sangya986 Thank you for your well wishes. I'm trusting God will restore my eyesight in due time. In the meantime, I'm grateful for my good eye and for having the resources and a great specialist to treat me. I'll be praying for you, too. Here's to staying positive and hopeful!...
I’m about to have surgery and my doctors are downright disrespectful to me about all this, like answering my questions is a huge chore..
Hi Kevin, can I ask how you felt about returning to work?
Hi Sonia, I had a few weeks to adjust, but, I did go back to work before the bubble was gone. I was back to work 2 weeks and the pandemic hit, so, I kind of had a "lucky" break. I was managing in those 2 weeks, but, it certainly was difficult. my best to you
@Kevin Geist thankyou for the reply. Best of luck to you
Dear friend, Do you have videos on positioning your head after surgery?
Hi Robert, I did have a special chair that I rented for the week after the surgery. It was a big help to allow me to keep my head down. It is in this video. I don't have more details on how to position than what I already shared. However, once you have the chair, there is pretty much only one way to sit in it. I suggest you rent one immediately. I am glad that my doc's office suggested one and game me the contact info to get it.
My retina detached at the macular but my optic nerve is good just can't get a prescription I have to find glasses literally anywhere except a doctor office
I take it you mean drug store readers? Or do you mean something else?
@Michael Mereday how is your vision now?
@@rahulkumarranchi well a miracle happens my other eye was my lazy eye could never see out of it I use it to trade when my damaged eye was down my laqy eye had a massive cateract when they took it out it improved incredibly 3 Lines. So I'm grateful but my damaged eye really needs help
3 months after my surgery and I can’t see anything sorry I’m so depressed doctor told me he can’t guarantee I’m going to see again I’m sorry my family is suffering with me
Martin, I am so sorry to read this. I can only begin to imagine how hard it is for you. Did your DR
speak of doing the surgery again, but using oil to support the retina? Would you want to get an opinion from another surgeon?
Make contact with Dr Gregory Smith located in Wilmington Delaware……solved so many of my vision disappointments
Hey DD, what issues where you facing with your vision?
I just got my eye cataract surgery yesterday. I still cant see out my left eye do you have any advice for me?
Hi Mark, I see you left this comment last week, how are things going now? any better?
I had vitreotomy for left eye and removed sillicon oil last week but knw everything bluury and yellowish colour
Hi Darshan, Have you talked to your surgeon about why your vision is blurry and yellow? What are the next steps? cataract surgery? Wishing you the best thru this long process.
@@kbg3879 my retina redetached once again today once again am undergoing vitreotomy
My problem is I had cateract surguary then detatched retina now I can't get a correct read on my prescription
Hi Michael, I did find that I often got better explanations from my regular eye DR than I did from my surgeons. So, I'd suggest when you go to your regular eye DR for follow-ups, ask a lot of questions there too. Good luck
🎉what len do you have ?
Hi Pham, I got a mono-focus lens. It is hard to know if that was the best choice. It is hard to test them out to know.
@ can you see far and near?
i am wondering to have vivity or panoptix
i am so confusing which one is better
Sounds like we worked with the doctors who went to the same medical school. Lol
Hopefully they did a good job, even if they didn't communicate well with you.
@@kbg3879 thanks Kevin...
Thanks for the info! Your doctor was not very good at communicating, which sucks.
Hi Chris, it appears many are equally "good" at it. My best to you.
You should speak more loudly. I can barely hear you.
For once in 3 years, someone else feels my EXACT pain!!! Your video is PERFECT!! You and I had similar experiences and also similar outcomes!!! Thank you for sharing I know I am not alone😖😖😓

I'm glad my experience was affirming for you. Hope you progress well.
