Thanks for taking the time to post this video. I’ve been on RUclips for a few days trying to find out how to measure up hinges for replacement doors I bought for my kitchen. Your video is the simplest, easiest way to do it. In actual fact your video is the only one. I wish you all the best!!
I watch a total of over 10 videos of talking craps or recomanding people into buying measurements tools. yours this video just solve all my doubts of HOW EXACTLY THEY MEASURED internal of the cabinet, well done Sir. yours this video is probably by far the best and useful. good job sir. and trillion thanks.
Hi good day thanks a million I'm not a woodworker but doing a kitchen cabinet for our home. Real DIY & was looking to do concealed hinges you make this so easy thanks. From BLON-D IN TRINIDAD
I found your video a lot more helpful than some of the other videos I’ve watched. You kept it simple, didn’t try to look cool in the camera but focused on the tutorial. Thanks.
I have watched so many concealed hinges sites , but yours is the best, you talk your way through each section and especially the mounting plate. Everyone forgets the mounting plate so its just half the job. You explain and demonstrate each stage. Will definately watch more of your videos.
Hi, concealed hinges tend to get overlooked here because they are often pre-fitted, I'm fitting some, more in a short while, I'll show as much as poss 😉 or in videos people glaze over some of the steps of the process of building, I try to explain my thoughts & reasons for my decisions/actions as if someone was stood next to me trying to learn, showing as much detail as my phone camera will allow 🙃 Thanks Anne 👍😊
The "old way" or "raw" on how to place some cabinet hinges, without fancy and costly or time-expensive jigs - Just YOU, a TAPEMEASURE (you spoke in milimeters *_* ), some helpfull sharp pencil - and of course, the hinge, screws and a driver.... the most quality video i've found on this after searching for days, better than the big subs and viewed channels! Take my like and sub, sir!
So I've just built a media wall with cupboards and wanted to know how to fit concealed hinges. . I watched three 12-15min videos on how to do this, fancy jigs, makeshift jigs, fancy workshop etc and was still none the wiser... And then I found this video. No nonsense, straight to the point excellence. . Thank you my brother. Excellent video 🙏
I have watched a few other videos, they talk too much and dont give you the essential information like how far the 35mm hole must be. Thank you your video is great and explains everything perfectly for the DIY guy.
Hi David, Yep i like to keep my vids simple how I'd like others to be, mine are informative not 'entertaining', just step by step clips of how i do it, no long intro, no stood in front of the camera waffling about non related crap, no paid promotions n as little bull as poss 😉👍 Thanks 👍
Me again have fitted all my kitchen cupboard hinges using your technique and looks and feels professional. My husband built the cupboard’s from scratch as we had run short on money. It has been a hard slog but well worth it. We now have to start watching how to cut worktops it cant be that hard lol.
👍👍 Good, Hand made units can sometimes be better than the shop bought things, I'm not sure my video on worktop fitting is complete or clear but there's loads on YT, once you understand how the joint goes together it isn't that hard with a jig, (they can be hired if you don't have one ) the hardest bit i think is the nerves, you're cutting into a piece that costs lots of money n one mistake isn't repairable, best of luck with that, maybe practice on scrap board, it doesn't have to be the same thickness as the worktops.👍😊 & i like to buy a new ½" router cutter for each worktop job, I've found these cutters are quite good www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-straight-router-cutter-12-7-x-50-8mm/26592 Let me know how it goes, Thanks
Yep, these cabinet hinges have been around for quite a while now but they're getting better with the in built soft close, it's the Hettich soft-close/push to open drawer runners that I like, they're well made n have a lovely motion.
I have fitted a lot of these hinges and always come back to this video before I start! Those straight freehand pencil lines still impress me every time is see it. I don't think my lines are that straight using a square :-)
Thanks for this video Gid its the best one I have come across on how to use these hinges but more importantly how to align the hinge with the backing plate when actually attaching the door to the cupboard you showed a similar thing when building the tv unit which was a great tutorial great stuff thanks
You're welcome, Thanks 👍 All these hinges & the jobs are a little different so a test piece with the adjustment settings to the middle & the 35mm hole 3mm-ish in from the edge is a good starting point 😉
this is educational. i already used around 2 of these hinges for cupboards with holesaw and it was lot of work filling up the other end with putty. i also didnt know you could adjust the hinge with the 2 screws. i will be getting a 35mm forstner bit sure.
What a brilliant video mate, you've made it so simple that even a numpty like me can understand :) I've been wanting to fit this type of hinge in my van conversion but too scared to attempt it. Now I'll be going back to the drawing board. Nice work fella
Thanks George 👍 Yeah they are fairly simple hinges, i think they're made out to be over complicated with all sorts of jigs available, I've a big bag of these intended for the shed that I've reclaimed from stuff I've ripped out over the yrs, 😉 hope they work you for you, If you need something to help keep the doors shut (in a van) these magnetic catches are strong n really worth the money, i buy mine locally for a similar price but they're the same www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MXY608V/?coliid=I1S08Q6QDRCZ8C&colid=3UBWC9NW89BTU&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
Thanks, yep some of the other's videos consist of a lot of the character stood in front of the camera talking about 'stuff' rather than showing you the work being done, that's not the way to teach, .
OK, I already knew how to use a forster bit. I wanna know , is there a trick to marking out where the hinge has go to go on the door, I dont have enough hands to hold the door up to the cupboard, hold the hinge up where it's meant to go and mark it
My mother used to sing “someday my prince will come” while she vacuumed and my dad sat on the toilet… or she’d sing “it’s so nice to have a man around the house” While trying to fix things. Totally sarcastic. As a homeowner single woman all I want in a man right now is it for him to be handy. It is priceless LOL
Hi, the hole is always 35mm but on this hinge the mounting plate goes on around 30mm but the ones on the wardrobe were fixed on about 35mm, I hoped this video would give a basic start to fitting these hinges & whoever is fitting them would have to work to the sizes of their purchased hinges.
OK thanks for the answer I use the 35mm hole but the base of the hinge always at 37mm front Well I already have the machine holes and the template so thank you
Thanks Very helpful. Is there a reason why the 35mm hole on the door should not be drilled 1/8" closer to the edge? The template I have marks it so that the hinge is about 1/4" from the edge of the door. Anyone?
Hi, 1/4" seems quite a lot but these hinges are all a fairy standard size, if your jig works fine then so be it but sometimes this distance depends a little on the thickness of the doors, I always do a test cut using scrap with the same dimensions of the wood from the project first & adjust it accordingly, Thanks Frank 👍
