Pierre...🙂 I thoroughly enjoy your 'teaching style' - the way you present the info and the care with which you use your words do wonders for me. Like yourself, my wife finds this to be her favorite song. So, with that in mind, and because of your way of making it appear super easy, I am going to learn this for her for Christmas. I've only got 11 days, but, I am confident that I can get this down in time to play it for her on Christmas morning. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
Omg I love love love your tutorial I have been singing this song since 1972 on guitar. Then at Folsom High School (Sacramento) during school year 1973-74 where I completed 12th grade. Now I will be able to play on keyboard at Folsom High School “50th” Golden Jubilee. Pierre-Thank you! You rock!❤ 🎵🎹
I can’t believe this song is 52 years old. I was born a year after it came out. Some of my earliest memories were of my hippy parents playing this album quite a bit back then. I’ll usually play it 2 or 3 times in a row, myself when I’m in the mood to hear it. Good memories with a lot of nostalgia! Tyvm!
Superb tutorial! I couldn't figure it out on guitar. Found this last night. The chords sound perfect. Teaching myself piano on my new old casio electronic piano now. Thanks for the help!
Thank you!! Thank you!! I've been trying to play this for years. I have the sheet music, but as a novice player, I always get bogged down in the chord changes. Your instruction helps so much!
Just subscribed to your channel -- really love the tutorials and of course the songs. This Todd song reminds me of high school. At the moment its above my ability but now a goal. Thanks for doing the one! Would love it if you could also do I Saw The Light.
Hey Pierre, new to your channel and really like your teaching style. This is such a great song. Also just learned I saw the light by TG. It would be great if you ended your tutorial with a full run through of the song...just a suggestion. Thanks so much for this.
Thanks! I used to, but that can result in copyright strikes so I have to be careful. Better for now to teach everyone the pieces that they need in order to put the song together.
Pierre, excellent channel - your teaching style is easy to follow - consider putting a link so that some of us grateful learners can send a tip for you !
That's very kind of you! I never ask for anything, but RUclips has built in features that you'll find under the videos to send "super thanks" donations if you choose to do so. Thanks for your support and kind words.
I offer notation for some videos via musicnotes.com. This way it’s done legally, meaning the artist gets the vast majority of the royalties for the sheet music sale!
I'm new to you channel. I lit\ke the pace you set and the format you've choesn. not extreme beginner nor virtual player but fast enough to keep the interest of a close to intermitted musician.
Thanks! That’s the hardest part- imagining the hypothetical student. Showing note names and talking them out with fingers etc hopefully makes it accessible to almost anyone!
Thank you for taking the time to reply it's not very often that a you get the chance to have that level of contact with the performer/.teacher. So while I still can is there any chance we might ever see the outdo to Layla? seems as that fits your type of songs you choose. It's a great piano part that really defines that song. which seems like other songs you teach. not to gush but thanks again, I really enjoy learning from you.
@@F.O.H. It would be a GREAT lesson. It remains on my list, don't worry. These videos take a long time to make-- so if I'm lucky, I can release 2 per week. But, I look forward to teaching you Layla sooner rather than later!
@pierrejpiscitelli Thank you! Moreso what a beginner can focus on for memorizing notes and chords. I've seen some players add stickers to their keys but feel like that could be a crutch in the long term.
@@csikora5150 I intend to make some more general theory-focused videos in the future... the stickers are fine as long as you take them away quickly so that they do not become as you said, a crutch. The best approach is two-fold: Learn songs that you love to keep things interesting while simultaneously incorporating the building blocks of theory into your practice. Learning a new major scale every week with both hands and correct fingers, as well as a new type of chord in all twelve keys is a great place to start. For example, focus on major chords in root position, all 12 keys one week. Next week, minors in all keys, next week inversions, next week dominant 7ths, etc. so that you build up the vocabulary from the ground up over time. It takes years and patience!
@@pierrejpiscitelli I have that part down, but I’ll practice more, just seems a bit off, muddy, even when hitting one chord over and over through the 8 beats

Fantastic! I'm glad it was helpful.
Another great one! I don't even have to request songs, you're already picking all my favorites. Thanks again, Pierre!
Haha! So glad to hear that.
Todd Rundgren is a GENIUS! His best work is Nearly Human....a MASTERPIECE!
My favorite album of his, hands down!!

Thank YOU! This is very generous- I appreciate your viewership and support 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
This is the one I have been waiting for. I have been playing it since college. THANK YOU!
Excellent lesson on a classic hit. Love the polychords in these old songs.
Again. Thank you. Love this. We obviously have very similar tastes. Great video
You can’t go wrong with seventh chords. I always thought this was Carol King.
Absolutely-- same exact writing style!
This actually reminds me of Stevie Wonder.
Excellent tutorial of an amazing classic. If you ever get around to doing another Todd song "I Saw the Light" would be greatly appreciated.
Love that one!
more Todd pls

Love her.
How about another Todd song, A dream go’s on forever would be really awesome
very good , one of my favorite songs from way back
Thank you

Excellent video! Thank you!! Todd's 'Can We Still Be Friends'?
One of my favorite songs ever.
I’ll vote for that one as well!
This is beautiful! And I will l learn it, but I'm having too much fun with Bennie and the Jets right now!
Yes!! 👍👍👍
Pierre, do you ever offer the chord layouts in a printable form so it is easier to follow along?

@@pierrejpiscitelli Hi Pierre, Am I correction that in the intro/versus you are hitting the left hand on 1 and 2+? Thanks. btw I'm loving this song.

Good morning Pierre! All of your tutorials have been so fantastic! Can you offer some advice on key recognition/ memorization?
I'm thrilled that you're enjoying them! Are you referring to reading key signatures, or hearing what key a song is in, by ear? Can you elaborate?

Can you post the sheet music?
Hello, you say to keep the pedals down but it sounds very ‘ringy’ is that normal?
You have to lift between chords. Use your ear, lift and reset back down again when things sound messy.

@@pierrejpiscitelli Would love to see Elton's version of Lucy in the Sky, there doesn't seem to be any tutorials for that
I prefer it to the Beatles version. Don’t tell anyone.
Holy crap thats a lot of chords
Certainly is.
