    Great review!
I had Angel GT too. Loved them until I upgraded to Michelin Road 5! Feels like I gained 5-10 HP at the wheel from hook up at launches at dead stop. XR leans into corners effortlessly like an RR! Get them for your next tires and thank me later!

Just noticed you made the same post on the Michelin Road 5 tires. I rode to Alaska from Florida and back.. no punctures and absolutely performed flawless on, let's say "less than ideal", roads.

23,000 miles only minor issues (other than labour costs). Fantastic review.
The ecu issue can happen with any vehicle, any time. Probably PC issue when disconnected.

Thanks for such an open review. Most people just say it's awesome and gloss over any problems and service costs.

Valves being way out of spec is mechanical. "Could" be more attributed to how rev happy you are, but has nothing to do with a Power Commander. Typical dealership BS.

This is way too much trouble for such an expensive bike... how disappointing.

Hopefully all is sorted, I like to maintain my own bikes so warranty does not apply for me :( Dealers charge too much. Power Commander has nothing to do with valve clearances, all this is, is a tuneable ECU, valve clearances are a mechanical wear & tear adjustment.

Nice honest review thanks, I have one of these on my shopping list for 2019, best I get a bmw warranty!!!

Valve lash has nothing to do with fueling. It's mechanical. Not changing the oil often enough, using low grade oil, or frequent high RPMs will make valve lash increase.

Your biggest problem with XR was because of BMW service maintenance at 18000, I would save your money on 35000 mile check because it can still have problem a month later. To smooth Out low rpm take out noise filters at air intake and install new sprint air filter and disconnect cable on exhaust servo this will also improve performance 5hp increase. Yes I’ve done this on my 2016 XR

Very troublesome the issues, was really interested in getting one and now I don’t want to part with my old trusted R1100r with 65000 miles on it . I get over 45 miles the gallon and it gets me everywhere.

The failure of your ECU right after a valve service is highly suspect. Does your dealer have a good, careful and methodical mechanic?

Try the Michelin Road 5, you'll never get anything else. Easy 10k from the rear and more from the front. The Road 5 inspired confidence in all weather conditions, even the greasy roads in the northwest.

Bikes like this are great for those of us who work on our own vehicles... and expensive if you don't.

I've been looking at this bike for a while and was seriously thinking of getting one, Not any more. Sounds like you had a good garage. You've only got to get a dealership that's awkward and i've had those and you are screwed. That's way too many issues for year one. I'm gonna walk away from this one sadly. Thanks for saving me an ulcer.

I had a 2015 BMW K1600 GTL with very similar issues, the bike was in the shop for 6 weeks as well. While riding a K1600GT, it too left me stranded at work one evening. I sold it and lost my butt on it. Now ride a Yamaha Super Tenere and it is so reliable. Great honest review.

They had the bike for six weeks!? I would love to get an S1000XR, but my closest BMW dealer is almost 900 kms (550 miles) away. I think I'll stick with a Japanese bike instead, more reliable, and for me most importantly, there are dealers closer to me.

Good review. But I don't think I would ever own a BMW, way too many problems and just too expensive. Long-term review of the 2012 zx14r, 26000 miles no troubles no problems runs great always starts, Cost Less and very exciting to ride.

@@t3h8ar0n hey thanks for replying to my comment.. what's the factory warranty on these bikes how many years ,miles? Do you rev a lot at higher rpm to make that valve way out spec? I'll keep researching about the 18 models cause I really want this bike

  • @blurglide
    @blurglide 4 года назад

It reminds me of my 2015 Yamaha FJ-09 with an extra 40 hp. I love this BMW, but it's no quicker to 60 and only about 10% quicker in the quarter mile. I'm tempted, but that BMW maintenance and cost of ownership is putting me off. That's a lot of problems for such a new bike. I think I'll probably stay with my Yamaha reliability. That's a cool bike, but a lot of problems and it's not THAT much quicker.

@@t3h8ar0n thanks pal... did you ride something like smc690r? i can hardly imagine more sportier bike in city, as 8000+ rpm in 2nd gear is way above speed limit but 1 cyl engine gives you so much torque from the idle , so i thought there should be some lower end performance ... i used to own fz1n and r1200r 2008 and r1200gs2015 and now stuck :)
