    Do you recommend doing the roof tint? I know they have factory tint that protects you from uv ray and heat .

    • @HighEndDetail
      @HighEndDetail  2 года назад +10

      If you're looking into some real heat rejection rate, and want your vehicle to be as heat resistant as possible, it is highly recommended! Just make sure who ever is installing these large portions of glass explain to you exactly how it's installed as well as for history of working with such vehicles

    Notice how he covered the IRR reading with his thumb when he measured the rear windows. That's because the rear windows come with 91.5% IRR from the factory. I've measured it myself with that same tool on a factory Tesla Model Y.

    • @HighEndDetail
      @HighEndDetail  Год назад +1

      Hi!
      Did you also measure the two front windows without tint?
      To think that not putting any tint on the rear windows is a great idea because it already blocks heat is the wrong mindset. Your kids, dogs and or whatever you put back there will get cooked!
      The only thing that will help you reduce heat is window film, specially a high grade ceramic film. Thanks for watching 🫡

    • @ScottRodriguez
      @ScottRodriguez Год назад +9

      @@HighEndDetail I did also measure the front. Here is what I got around the car.
      Front: 80.5 VLT, 100 UVR, and 76.7 IRR
      Rear: 21.6 VLT, 96.2 UVR, and 91.5 IRR
      The roof got 100 UVR and 98 IRR

      @HighEndDetail  Год назад +3

      @@ScottRodriguez great! So based on those numbers you’re thinking tint isn’t needed? Do a btu reading on those back windows, they’re absorbing more heat than the clear two front windows due to the fact that they’re factory dye black.

    • @ScottRodriguez
      @ScottRodriguez Год назад

      @@HighEndDetail BTU measures how much solar energy is passing through the window into the car heating the surfaces of the interior of the vehicle. The higher the IRR, the less solar energy is passing through the window.
      That said, as the ceramic tint or in the Model Y’s case, the factory windows block solar heat (based on the measurements revealed) from passing through the window, the window itself will absorb and maintain heat energy. As the window warms up, the air in the vehicle will still gradually warm up via conductive heat transfer.
      Conductive heat transfer (air inside the vehicle that is heating up due to being in contact with the warm window) is an issue while vehicles are stationary. Once the vehicle is in motion, any heat being absorbed into the window will be cast off the vehicle as wind passes over the car.
      Long story short, the interior of a stationary vehicle left in direct sunlight is going to get hot over time regardless of how you choose to block the heat due to conductive heat.

      Great video.
      I’m trying to make sense of this, too. If they factory backseat windows have UVR~97, and IRR~91 does adding film to get to UVR~100 and IRR~98 really improve things all that much? How do the BTUs compare? Or is comparing BTUs even a fair comparison? I really appreciate your insight on this.

    I had the front windows on my 2022 MYP tinted with XPEL XR PLUS a few weeks ago. There is a minimal gap between the edge of the film and the top edge of the window. I can see the tint film line. Again minimal (maybe the width of 1 or 2 credit cards put together) bit it’s there. The tinting facility said they don’t go to the exact edge of the window because on Teslas they have found that when they go to the edge they have encountered peeling through time. Is this accurate? Thank you

    • @W96NZ

    • @PMitchell106
      @PMitchell106 Год назад

      Tint is always applied to the inside. When you see him laying it down on the outside, that's just to stretch and form it so that it's the right size and shape when it's transferred to the inside and won't require as much work to get laid down into place.

    the best tint for tesla y is 15% in the front, 35% in the rear and back window, roof and windscreen is 70%. If your happy with the privacy stock window from tesla and don't want to tint it just want to match the front, just tint the front 20%.

    Front VLT was 10%
    Rear VLT was 15%
    So the back side windows are 5% lighter than the front? Doing 35-45% in the rear would've been an actual match.

    • @HighEndDetail
      @HighEndDetail  2 года назад +1

      yes and no. yes, the front windows are 10% but due to them being close to the windshield (lots of light come in) and taking in consideration that the seats being are white, 10% looks like 15%.

  • @JDougyJ
    @JDougyJ Год назад +1

    Why are you accounting for the white interior to change the tint when the back windows also have white interior? Because the variation is true for all windows, shouldn't it be ignored? If the 10% on the front is going to come up to 15%, isn't the 15% on the back going to go up to 20%? Seems like you should just match the windows, unless the interior were 2 different colors front and rear.

    • @PMitchell106
      @PMitchell106 Год назад +1

      The front seats are going to be more illuminated by the light coming in the windshield and reflecting it out the front windows, the back seats are going to be shaded from that light by the front seats, so if all were tinted the same, the back would appear darker from the outside. If the goal was for the windows to look the same from the driver's perspective looking out, they should try for the same effective VLT, if the goal is to make them *look* matched from the outside, then they'd want to be a touch darker in the front.

    Fact:
    The FRONT WINDOW TINT is very dark for NIGHT DRIVING, especially for a lady driver/owner.
    And to see more clearly the ROAD, 80% - 90% are perfect for NIGHT time.
    How do I know?
    I was in the tint business for 3 decades, and I've seen people correlate the DARK tint to LESS HEAT, but that's NOT CORRECT, as whatever the COMPOSITION of the TINT ITSELF (especially ceramic technology), the HEAT REJECTIONS is the same with 90% to 10%, period.
    Have a great day to y'all!
