I would have loved that too. I did see him perform this in 2002, as a part of a David Gilmour concert (Royal Festival Hall, London). The audience went bonkers and ran to the stage (not bad for our older ages!)
A fantastic vocalist who was a huge influence on Alice Cooper, and many heavy-metal vocalists notably Ian Gillian of Deep Purple. Arthur was a great performer as well. The debut album is a stone-cold psychedelic classic. Tom Jones invited some quality performers to his shows
What an amazing performance. One of the best live performances I have EVER seen in my life was The Crazy World of Arthur Brown in 1968. Arthur is amazing. A true one-off.
One of my favorite musicians. I was introduced to this song in 1988 at night on MTV back when it was still watchable. Closet classics I became a fan of sixties music and Arthur Brown from then on.
I got introduced to this amazing song in 1995 by the way of a 45rpm single that ended up in my LP collection. I have no idea where I got it, but I saw the name of the group and a date of 1967 and thought it was going to be a typical late 60's pop song. Wrong. This song was proto metal, and that huge voice with the equally huge range absolutely knocked me out. I've been a fan ever since.
The wonderful Arthur Brown. Saw him in the early 70's at Ilkeston in Derbyshire, performing his timeless classic, Fire. Great theatrics, great showman and absolutely superb vocalist.
I finally found a live version so I could see young Carl Palmer. I was just watching his video and he discussed playing in this band when he was around 17 or 18
Man-0-Man love love love this! Came out when I was a kid living in Detroit good ol Motown... And would listen to the 45 on my aunt's record player... Still BadAss today!!!
Pure rock art pushing the boundaries.....imagine all this on LSD back then?......oh my......look out !....glad I arrived a little late for this. I would be a casualty just like Crane.....100% for sure.
Tom Jones and Arthur Browns voices are very similar. I was in the kitchen one time and the credits for "Mars Attacks" was on the TV in the living room with Tom Jones singing "Its Not Unusual". I started thinking, what the hell is Arthur Brown doing singing that song lol. Then I started comparing them. I have played professionally for over 50 years and I don't think I am imagining it.
I thought the same! Someone at work put on Tom Jones for a bit, and the whole time I was just going "man... he REALLY sounds like Arthur Brown sometimes!"
Palmer pulled off this song well, especially considering that he had some big shoes to fill (the original drummer didn’t tour in the US). Good for him, this would’ve made Drachen proud.
Finally someone who can appreciate Drachen's drumming. A lot of bad stuff is said about him but I find his skills amazing. All of his stuff on CWOAB is magnificent and fits the overall band's vibe really well. Even when listening to Strangelands you know he wasn't just any average drummer.
Fantastic performance. Arthur is so unique. I don't know if I saw this at the time as I was only 7, but do recall his TOTP appearance. Note the audience applause at the end. None of that whooping or cheering we get now.
The lead singer definitely was on something when he did this performance. No performer in their right mind could perform like this without being under the influence. Anyway great performance by the great Arthur Brown, a true original
For me AB produced later in 1971 with his band Kingdom Come Arthur Brown (correctly written name) one of the best prog rock albums with their debut album "Galactic Zoo Dossier".

It's no wonder Crane had a nervous breakdown and had to temporarily bail around this time; he is NEVER shown on camera in ANY of the many videos in circulation! WTF?
Thanks to the mid 60s - late 70s Bremen Germany TV music show, there is some excellent footage of Vincent Crane with Atomic Rooster where he features more prominently.
A time as no other in music. Getting ready for school in '68 , '69 and Arthur Brown is blazing Fire on the small radio in the kitchen. In retrospect, Fire was the Theme, Timothy Leary was The Guru and Purple Haze for Creativity. I'm 74 Now, and unlike Amy Winehouse, " I Ain't Going To Rehab ", No , No , No. Thank You Arthur for getting rid of Carl Palmer on drums to Emerson and Lake. I had no idea how 'progressive and innovative' the direction music had already begun to change and morph into what it became " progressive rock ". Thank You, Mr Arthur Brown, for Your vision to incorporate theatre and music for what the Russian Philosopher Gurdjief, would be proud to adopt. I am still amazed and flummoxed that no 'Arthur' than Arthur Brown would have a helmet with horns on naked flames atop their head! That Is Outrageously Compelling. It is still crazy now but not like the The Crazy World of Arthur Brown back in the day. You know what to do when You are depressed and down and out is to simply " light yourself on fire ".
