  • I almost threw these Ficus cuttings on the compost heap, but instead I decided to make some into tiny bonsai.

    Watching bonsai pruning always feels like watching a parody. Some unfamiliar with bonsai would surely think it was a comedy sketch. Absolutely hilarious when you finish pruning g and proudly present a stump. 🤣😂

    Thanks for this video. Such fun to see what can happen with the little pots and trees. You have inspired me! I have about 15 tiny pots and will get them filled over time, maybe this winter, certainly spring. I also lucked into a triangular shaped stand that holds all the pots. I have it in my small garage that my grandson euphemistically calls my "bonsai studio." I get so many great ideas from your trail blazing efforts with the tiny ones! Thanks.....

    Superb root work. I like these cool little mini in a cool little pot. Jay is the man with a super cool little pot. That stand for the mini's also cool. Great work with the mini's!

    I wish that I had the courage to reduce the roots that far. It never fails to amaze me that no matter how far you cut the roots back the tree still survives. An excellent video Nigel.

    Hi Nigel. I have a little mame pot with nothing in it and some Chilean Guava cuttings that are growing well, so as soon as I'd finished watching this video I went out and potted up one of my Chilean Guava into the mame pot. It has a lovely little radial root system. It's mid Spring here in Victoria, Australia. I had to laugh though. As soon as you brought out those beautiful mame pots for the ficus I thought "There's no way he's giving those away!"

    It doesn't hurt to have a few small trees like that. In Japan, they have names assigned not just to style but also size. the smallest size is Mame. These are trees that measure no more then 15cm tall.

    Oh Nigel! People would pay for what you are throwing into the compost heap...I know I would...A Nigel Saunders pre-Bonsai...The two you kept turned out really nice though...Wrapped in a wet paper towel, placed in a zip lock freezer bag and stuffed into a $10 mail envelope!!! I'm going to have nightmares...

    I started a few mame myself, but my cuttings are still way thinner than yours!
    My Chinese Elms (3 years old cuttings) are getting there and I’m sure next spring I’ll have the cutest one!
    I wonder if any of 30+ benjamina cuttings I took this year will be ready for next year!
    Thank you, your work is truly touching! 🙏

    Those succulents break all the "rules"!
    Mine get watered with everything else, and do fine.
    I even have a portulacaria that has fallen over into a catchment bucket...and still grows.

    Btw, why not give those spare trees to the neighbours? We put fruits, plants and stuff like that in boxes by the sidewalk to be taken.

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  10 месяцев назад +1

      They need good humidity and they can't dry out. I'd try putting a plastic bag around the tree after repotting and keep it in a bright place, but out of direct sunlight.@@munkhbilegsainbayar7592
