  • In this video, I will show you how to build two easy DIY woodworking projects for beginners. You can use these quick woodworking projects to sell or give as gifts to friends and family. These are very simple woodworking projects that use simple tools and methods. I will show you how to make wooden chevrons for wall art and decorations. I will also show you how to build a lazy susan two different ways. We will make a round lazy susan and a square lazy susan. These projects are simple but look really nice. I classify the chevrons and round lazy susan as beginner woodworking projects whereas the square lazy susan is more for intermediate woodworkers because I use a planer. These are simple woodworking projects that make money. You can build these in batches to have available in various styles to sell. Or you can use scrap lumber to build these projects. I love using scrap wood to build woodworking projects so that there is very little waste.

    I'm really glad I found your channel. I'm 35 and have Cystic Fibrosis, a terminal lung disease. I'd been laying tile and doing carpentry since I was 19 up until I had to go on disability when I was in my late 20s. The last year or so there's been some breakthroughs in medications and although it's still something that affects my life daily - I have much more energy and time to do things now that I'm not spending half my time in the hospital. Hadn't given much thought about picking up my tools again, least in the way of being able to do carpentry full time again, but after stumbling across your channel/videos it made me remember how much I love and miss the trade and that there are still plenty of things I'm able to do. So last week I went to Home Depot, bought some plywood and a couple feet of 2.5" oak and got to work. Built my wife a little wall decoration for her office out of the oak and the top to our late cats old perch and tomorrow I'm starting a litter box enclosure for our other cat with the plywood. Got a bunch of your videos bookmarked cause you've got a ton of great ideas that I'd like to try out. Thanks for doing what you do, man. And thanks for helping me find a purpose again. 👍❤️

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks  3 года назад

      That's awesome man! I'll be praying for you for sure! Hope those medications continue to have breakthroughs!

    Ok Mr. 731 - You failed to mention that the original round one you show in this video was actually made from a messed up noodle board that you were going to throw away. I saved that poor wood and made you cut a circle from the middle, sand and stain the edges, and attached it to an old base we had. Good thing you are talented enough to keep up with me and my crazy ideas! 😘

    If you're looking for great, cheap hardwood, Bunnings have hardwood sleepers (240 x 75 x 2400) for just over 30 bucks.
    The only problem is that they get different varieties and you just have to go with what they've got on hand but I scored a gorgeous redgum sleeper that I've made a tripod floor lamp, a side table for putting little plants on and still have almost half the slab left.
    Redgum in that size weighs around 50kg so eat your weetbix before you go to pick it up :-)

    Noticed you put some outriggers on the 2nd lazy Susan going through the planer. I assume that was to control snipe? How did you attach the outriggers?
    I built a rather nice small cutting board Saturday in a Intro Woodworking class at the Indianapolis Woodcraft store (shame there's only one Woodcraft store in the state). Got an intro to the jointer, planer, table saw, router, sanding, and finishing. All told, probably 1.5 hours of working on the board in a 6 hour class.
    I'm hoping to pick up enough skills/experience fairly quickly to be able to build/sell cutting/charcuterie boards for the Christmas season this year. Was thinking to also get into pen turning this year but that may have to wait for next year. First thing I need to do is clear all the useless crap out of my garage to make room for a shop.

    I just noticed in your cutting board or lazy susan, how you eliminate snipe on your planer. The extended edges that will be cut off take the snipe. Thank you!

    Good stuff! Looks like shop temp is over 90 degrees for part of this? Can’t imagine. You seem to take it in stride.

      Yes sir. That’s tolerable temp this time of year. ha ha. July and August it gets close to that 100 mark. The good part it, it rarely gets below 30 degrees in the winter.

    More great project ideas! I’ve never made a pocket hole but would like to try. Do you have to use the special pocket hole screws? Thanks for all the great information and ideas. Love your videos!!

      you don't have to but they work much better because they have that flat, pan head on them.

    Great video. Nice easy projects that will sell! Would it be possible to attach the lazy Susan to a base board to give it extra stability?

    Curious, why do you not fill in the pocket holes with the pocket hole plugs or dowelling for a cleaner look? Nice small projects!
