    For a few years I drove the Auto Moto to work in Victoria, British Columbia - which definitely has more rain than Washington or Oregon. It has a much narrower roof line, and only once did I get wet in a storm when it was blowing very hard sideways. No problem if carrying the right gear.

    Re stopping: I've done an emergency stop in my FUV in an actual emergency and it did *really* well (in slushy snow even!). Thanks to the FUV's three wheels, we have the stability of an automobile during an emergency stop but only 1/3 that of a typical automobile's mass. This means there's only 1/3 of the momentum to dissipate in order to come to a stop. Finally, unlike a car, you have both regenerative braking *and* three wheels of disk brakes. The result is a stable and quick stop in an emergency.

    • @EVResource
      @EVResource  2 года назад +4

      Excellent point Tyler! As you could see, once I learned exactly how much (or how little) of the friction brakes I needed to use, I got a handle on the emergency stopping fairly easily. And I was impressed! The FUV does VERY well.

    I do love how well it does in the rain despite being open-sided. Would still prefer canvas or plastic sides as an option for the more extreme weather. There are many stop lights in my area and we get frequent rainstorms accompanied by wind, so I picture being drenched occasionally at least at a stop. Been caught in the rain many times here, and even with cover its often had to avoid being soaked. Love the vehicle, but I'd have to get canvas doors made if I bought one. Great review!

    I have had my FUV for about six months and have driven in the rain several times with no problem. The FUV is much dryer and as you say has less wind than a motorcycle. I live in the deep southeast, which has frequent thunderstorms. If you get hit with one of these, a strong side wind will soak you.

      @@EVResource I live in north Florida, so I am able to drive/ride all year. I use my FUV for local trips. A few times when it was really cold or rainy I used my 17 year old van. In my semi-rural area, people do walk up an ask about the FUV. I like to say that I get 100 miles on $4 of electricity. Have to admit that at stop lights I like to accelerate ahead of other traffic (after checking Left and right). I did make one mistake. In a pasture I left the brakes on. Before I realized my mistake, I had plowed a hundred yard furrow with my back tire locked. Now that is torque.

      I can only speculate about that type of experience. Certainly I would expect a lot of water to come in from the sides. I have an eBike and don’t need any battery assistance on the way into town. It’s literally down the mountain all the way down to town, 5 miles away. But coming back up the mountain to our house, I need battery assistance, especially on the steep areas.
    If our gasoline powered vehicles were manual transmissions, I could put them into neutral and kill the engine and coast all the way into town and would hit speeds around 45mph.
    I’d be afraid that I’d get too cold before getting into town as our winter daytime temperatures are around 25 degrees Fahrenheit. Also we get 5-7 feet of snow every winter and if the county hasn’t plowed the roads yet, it simply wouldn’t make it.
    Thankfully we drive an Outback and Forester. Our pickup is also a 4WD.

      @@EVResource Many years ago, I worked for the post office and we had old crappy jeeps. Anytime it rained, water would come through any areas with a gap, the brake pedal, gas pedal and the door. Then there were the times where someone going fast through standing water could create a tidal wave of muddy water. Then the most memorable incident happened during the summer. We got a severe storm that had golf ball size hail that pelted everything. People had dents in their car, dealerships had multiple cars with dents, home roofs were damaged. Luckily my new car was parked in the parking lot at work and didn’t get hit, but others were not as lucky. I was in my truck on the route and the area I was at got grazed by that hail storm. I closed the windows and waited for the storm to pass. I have also been in rainstorms that were slashing sideways, I had to keep opening and closing the door to deliver the mail on one side of the street. That vehicle should at least have a heavy plastic shower type curtain at the very least. Then at least you have something to cover the sides. Even modern day Jeeps have coverings for the weather. Our weather patterns are getting worse because of climate change, not better. Even a rolled up vinyl plastic that could be unrolled if needed, would be better than nothing there.

      There is very little rollover risk. I know this from pushing it to the limit on the track. I was able to lift one of the wheels, but even then, the FUV was stable and I was able to recover quickly. The factors that help with stability are the two wheels in front (vs. in the rear like some three-wheeled vehicles) and having the battery very low to provide a low center of gravity. There was never any time, even with quite spirited driving, that I felt a risk of rollover.
