  • Hello Everyone! I am super excited about this video. Not only is Doctor Who one of my favorite shows, I've been in the fandom for a long time and seeing videos about the doctor being asexual is just what I needed this week. Not only is this video wholesome as hell, it's my first venture into putting subs on my videos. It took me awhile to do but I'm so proud of this video and if you seen any spelling mistakes let me know. I do have dyslexia so it'll be ruff until I can afford an app that does it but for now it's gonna be me tying away. I hope you all enjoy the video and me reacting to the Doctor being asexual for 5 minutes!

7:20 YOU NEED TO!! MOFFAT'S WRITING GETS SOO MUCH BETTER WHEN CAPALDI COMES ALONG. the twelfth doctor's relationship with clara was not sexualized AT ALL, he formed real close platonic bond with her and i think it's something you'd really enjoy as it's arguably when moffat is at his best!!
and with twelve's other companion bill potts, it was sort of like a teacher/student, grandfather/granddaughter dynamic and again, i think you'd LOVE bill!
    so pls give capaldi's era a chance if u haven't already 🥺 i honestly think it's something you'll like a lot.

I actually love a lot of Moffat’s writing, I think he understands the Doctor on a really, really deep level but I do know he is very acephobic and he definitely had a lot of issues with writing women-though I think he got better over time. Also the love triangle went away after a bit and the three of them became a fantastic tardis team. I’m sorry to hear you hate it so much because some of the stuff he wrote is some of my favorite Who of all time, and had helped me a great deal. 11 is my favorite Doctor and you should absolutely watch Capaldi’s era, especially his last season as his doctor has a real arc about trying to understand what it means to be The Doctor. Even with his flaws, Moffat’s era crafted some of my favorite stories of all time.
Doctor who is one of my absolute favorite shows, and the Doctor is one of my favorite characters-it’s great we have a woman Doctor now but I do wanna say having a male character like The Doctor be as mainstream as Doctor Who is unbelievably rare and should be recognized for being as important as it is.

Your totally right in that Steven Moffat didn’t do a good job writing and I haven’t seen much of this show. One thing I thought of last time I watched that video though was how much the scene where the doctor talks about “not seeing it” felt like a really well done improvisation. Like B+ material in theatre school (although not fit for the big screen). It sorta felt like adorable bloopers of them having fun at set XD hard to explain but I love the doctors reactions to all of these situation

Oh my gosh please! I love Sherlock and how beautiful his relationship with John is, as an Aro Ace I will KILL to have have a friendship like that! He also reps the autistic community, not by being a genius but by showing how difficult making and keeping relationships can be. They even had a meltdown in the first episode and love how casual it is like “Oh that’s just Sherlock” instead of “It’s just Aspergers” . Anyway yeah, I’m tiered of people trying ship everything and everyone. Not everyone thinks about sex!
I even head canon 1990’s Snufkin as Aromatic and Asexual or at least Demisexual because of his indifference to romance and some of the fandom was not happy to hear that.

But I was surprised that they didn't include the scene from Peter's episode Dark Water, where Dr. Chang sticks his hand in the dark water to show that only organic matter can be seen in it (you could see his arm but not his sleeve or watch) . Then he says, "I say they ought to use this stuff in swimming pools." And the Doctor says, "Why?" And Dr. Chang goes, "Think about it." The Doctor gets this confused look and says, "I am thinking about it. Why?"

I've always wanted to extend the original video (featuring Matt's Doctor) to include the old show. There's literally dozens and dozens of examples of the Doctor's Ace-ness throughout the 26 years, only the most prominent being his confusion over how Romana can charm people with her looks (K9 tells him "she is female" and the Doctor is just like WUT?) and his complementing another lady with "You're very beautiful, probably."

The nice thing about Doctor Who is that even when it's ruined forever by some showrunner or another, all you need to do is wait a while and a new creative team will be in charge with different ideas about how the show should be. I waited a long time for Moffat to no longer be in charge, and now he's gone, and the show is better for it. My only regret is that we didn't have any episodes for Peter Capaldi outside of Moffat's run.

It all started at school when I was getting bullied for how I looked ,and I was to thin ,and they asked me "do you eat?" And they called me names. And I was this ugly "girl" in school. I used to play with boys ,and didn't care course I had fun with them. And also I love playing with genders ,that I can be ME around. When I felt like I wanted to get rid of why is my feminine side showing so in my face ,when I looked in the mirror. I had flashbacks of people peer pressuring me (this was in middle school) to school ,and I felt like I was feminine. And then after getting to talk with my mom of having hurtful flashbacks. I now figure out going on the internet I like they/them not he/she. I rly thank you💓💓💓

I think the first example is the Doctor just dissing Rose's mom. Moffatt's writing USUALLY was amazing, or at least his story ideas and conceptions. During RTD's era his stories were routinely among the best of each season they were in. So it felt like a good change for him to be show runner and hoping things would get darker and more complex, but sometimes he went too far. Fans seemed to complain more about the end of his tenure, but I don't recall anyone hoping Chibnall would be the next guy.
For my money the best "Ace" moment (I guess we aren't referring to Sophie Aldred's companion character anymore) was Tom Baker in City of Death when he said "you're a very beautiful woman, probably" being totally disinterested in her. But if you want an asexual Doctor, watch the classic series. You know, before all the snagging, innuendo and companions falling for him.

lowkey still mad at moffat for implying that the doctor only had pretty young women in the tardis because he was into them despite the fact that they came as sort of stand-ins for his actual, literal granddaughter, and that with many of them he was overtly paternal. not to say he never had any sort of romantic tension with a companion, but it's in the minority, and even with rose, the companion he's famously in love with, the overtones are usually romantic, not sexual.

best show EVER omg!!! However I do think that the doctor's asexuality kinda depends on his regenerations, like how the 11th doctor was clearly way more asexual than 10th. Though i must say i think moffats writing was possibly the best it's ever been apart from russel t davies

When it comes to the 11 and Ponds era, I much prefer series 6. Series 5 had some good stories but most of it was Amy being h0rny, Rory being criminally underdeveloped and 11 being me and super awkward. Also, I absolutely hate how Amy was written as blatantly ignoring 11’s constant “NO”s at the end of Flesh and Stone. That scene was completely unnecessary!

Wait, is Moffat bad because he's a bad writer, or just "ace phobic"? Please be specific here. I judge the stories based on how original they are, not whatever happens to jive with any particular identity. You were very quick to say "all of them" regarding the companions, though you mentioned in passing "classic Who." I will say that other than Mickey and Jack Harkness, who weren't consistent companions, all of RTD's companions were women. Moffatt, on the other hand, gave us Rory and Nardole. So maybe they're even? But I'm sure the Doctor is recalling ALL his companions, in which case, here are all the males: Ian, Ben, Steven, Jamie, (Lethbridge-Stewart, Benton and Yates if we're counting UNIT), Harry, Adric and Turlough.

I've never seen Sherlock, but as an asexual nonbinary Whovian I would appreciate a video at least on Steven Moffat in general; it's an intense cause of cognitive dissonance for me to have at the very least fond memories of his era, liking at least a fair amount of it, but it always being soured by the overpowering stench of aphobia and allonormativity that brings the whole thing down.
Imo he gets slightly better with Peter Capaldi's Doctor, though it's pretty hard to tell if that's actually an attempt to correct for Matt Smith's characterisation, just his social response to Capaldi being an older man or an attempt to replicate the more asexual Doctors of Peter Capaldi's childhood without actively looking to write the Doctor as ace.

Personally I don't agree on the Moffat hate. I think he was good at beginnings. But each too there own

If you like the Doctor and Donna together, you should watch Nan's Christmas Carol... Or Ducktales (2017)... Or that Shakespeare performance they did.
Come to think of it, they keep acting together and it's always awesome.

I think Moffat was great for those little one-offs like "Blink" and two-parters like "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances".
    But as a showrunner... ugh.
I never fully figured out why I have such an issue with his writing.
I feel bad though because I love both Smith and Capaldi as The Doctor I would have loved to see those versions of the Doctor with a better showrunner.

Had no idea about the Sherlock fandom. Yes please, do that video. Also would not recommend Capaldi doctor. Clara is the worst companion and the story is just meh.
