      @karljohnson4008 Год назад +1

      Don't get me wrong. I love Spydercos and own seven or eight models but unless you can find them on sale, they are about 20 to $30 overpriced. I get it that they are from a USA manufacturer and you can't expect companies that pay American worker's wages to compete in price to overseas manufacturers who are paying pennies per hour to their employees. But yet Hogue has produced an equal quality knife that is $90 cheaper then the Spyderco in this case.

    • @holdernewtshesrearin5471
      @holdernewtshesrearin5471 Год назад

      @@karljohnson4008 - I agree Hogue is killing it with quality knives in popular and desirable materials and doing it for a very reasonable price.
      Goes to show you what we're paying for the big name brand.
      But imo I think Spyderco has done a great job of keeping most of their US produced models reasonably priced. Their more premium designs and collaborations are a bit pricey but then, they're still 20% less than a comparable Benchmade.
      The thing is ALL knives are overpriced. Always have been. But this recent influx of high end and high priced Chinese produced knives has apparently given some US makers free reign to crank their prices up just to be more expensive than the imports.
      Benchmade being the most deluded offender of the lot.
      Benchmade is going to learn a valuable economic lesson this year I think, as I and about a dozen others I'm aware of has sworn them off after being downright assaulted and insulted by this year's price schedule.

    All things considered, I like the FRN/FRCP on the SIG branded Hogue folders I've tried quite a bit. I don't equate the feeling as cheap, the lighter weight is what stands out most. In this particular application as a "hard use" folder it makes a ton of sense since it should shrug off the dings and scuffs that are going to happen.

    This is indeed a battle... I just picked up a Hogue Deka and love it. I know they make quality stuff and also dig on my sprint run Spyderco Para3 in M4. I’ve had my eye on the Shaman. Spyderco designs the hell out of their knives... Hogue anything is quality. I think my Deka is a more solid knife than the Bugout. That’s a tough choice. I like the blade better on the Shaman. Spyderco should stick with their wire clips. My favorite clips are the wire clips. The clip is my least favorite thing on the Deka. Yeah the Hogue knives are priced to move in a lot of models. I got the Deka in S20v for $112. That’s a win.

    Surprised you didn’t touch on the reliability of the locks. The compression lock is likely to never fail you. The omega spring on those cross bar locks are a ticking time bomb waiting to fail on you. Also both companies offer very strong warranties as well. Last factor would be something you talked about but never considered a factor. Aftermarket and ability to customize. People spending over $100 on a knife may be interested to know there is almost no dedicated aftermarket for Hogue knives.

    I can't believe you would compare these two knives. There is no competition at all. The sig literally feels like a Swiss army knife with an able lock. Very mushy and outdated, no detent at all so the blade has to be thrown out to get a good spidey flick. Very disappointing, bought the collector series before watching other reviews. I'm sure some grandpa's would like this knife but if you're into fidgety action the shaman wrecks this knife.
