I did a hunt like this in the Forks with Wayne Hockmeyer 35 years ago when I was 21 . Didn’t see a deer for 9 days .loneliest time of my life . I was miserable then but I was surrounded by real hunters for the first time in my life.I heard great stories at the end of the day from the other hunters in the remote camp which got me exited for the next day.although I saw no deer I was on fresh tracks on my own and that Wes more rewarding for me.I’ll never forget Jim ,Cecil and Wayne , best hunter I ever had the privilege to meet. You remind me of him , Maybe better . I wish I was younger and healthier to hunt with you . These videos will keep me going. Please keep doing it .thanks very much.
All these hunts recently posted have me so pumped for this season!!! I’ve been bow hunting but after my first successful hunt still hunting/ tracking last year its very hard to sit in a stand now. Bring on November!!!!
I hunt SW Missouri where we don’t good tracking snow until gun seasons are almost over, or finished in some years. Bow season ends 15 Jan. Having said that none of my deer have come from tree stands. Half have come from blinds, and the other half still hunting, or finding good cover on a trail.
That looked like a bone chillin' day boys! Way to capitalize, regardless of the elements. A true example of being comfortable being uncomfortable and staying the course. Another great vid🤙🦌
Thanks for making these videos, they are a nice change from the same old. Your videos bring back lots of memories of hunting with my dad as a kid here in Alberta. If you read this comment I have one request Mr. Hal, could you do a tour of that awesome cabin you start your videos in. I absolutely love log homes and am always looking for new ideas for if i can ever afford one of my own. Keep up the great work.
Great job Hal and Kevin. Love the noticeable spring in your step after making the shot! Tried catching up with you at the Maine Sportsman's show this past spring, but you were peaking with some other hunters. Had a nice talk with Mark for a bit. Good luck this year.
Hal and Kevin Awesome Hunt super nice team work guys!! Another Great Tracking work By Mr. Hal Blood! Kevin Great Camera work Mr.👍👍🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸🦌 Good Luck too all in the woods this Fall ! It's Coming fast! The Vermonter BS
You remind me of a friend I lost that always tracked big maine bucks. He was in jackman area. Jake Vining. We could talk about bucks all night long 😂 thanks for making these videos sometime hopefully I will get to track one up north. Usually hunt in southern me do to work too much. Got a buck in Kokadjo last fall
Love watching your hunts. Great content I try to use your tips on my hunts on public lands in the Catskills of NY. My success rate is no where near yours. Great channel.
Where about it northwest ontario was this? I live in north western ontario and grew up hunting logging cuts with my dad. Have had some great success over the years walking ridges, i have never tracked deer the way you guys do though and will most definetly be trying it out. it looks like a blast!
Great deer Hal! I hunt up by Sudbury Ontario, so I know the fun ur having there. I had a question...How does a strong wolf population effect tracking? I've noticed most mature deer I see just cruising in Ontario only walk with the wind constantly! Only place I've ever seen this on the regular. Only guess i have is they use their eyes more n nose to check their back trail!
The best part about deer hunting in the big woods is the sandwich, for me peanutbutter-and-jelly. When i pull one of those beauties out of its little sack i can hear the angels singing. But you gotta get it right. Yesterday my sandwich didn't have enough jelly and i was so depressed i wanted to die out there. I called-off the hunt for the day.
Question for you Hal, do you tote your 7600 with a round in the chamber and the safety on? Also have you tried wearing snow gaiters to keep your pant legs clear of snow and drier? P.s. You are an awesome hunter! Thanks
One thing I've noticed on these tracking videos is that whom ever the chief tracker is, no matter what their advanced age is they aren't wearing glasses. Has their vision not left them as it has with most of advanced age, or are they wearing contacts? I can't see shit unless I'm wearing glasses now. Probably why I didn't shoot a deer for over ten years but did last year after I discovered how wonderful I can see wearing a pair that focuses!
OnX is a great tool for navigating the woods. (Use code “BWB” for a discount.) But to hunt the big woods safely you can’t rely on technology, you need to carry a map and compass and know how to use them. We will be releasing Hal’s map and compass course that he teaches to guides very soon so stay tuned.
Hmm, wow, great buck Hal, living life more abundantly in our freedoms. Also remembering Pearl Harbor. Lord have mercy on us- Jesus is King Lord bless, keep and strengthen you, Hal...
I’ve hunted in that area of Ontario, had a fire going and had a small buck walk within 20 yards , it didn’t affect him . There was snow on the ground and next day I walked by where I had the fire and there were Fresh Wolf tracks
As a military guy… I am curious if Kevin realizes he is “flagging “ Hal with the barrel of his rifle or is it the tripod for the camera ? Easily fixed carry your rifle backwards so the muzzle is pointed behind you Kevin - stay safe out there
Hal,its my opinion this is the only way to hunt,if you can.Drurry putdoor get way bigger racks, but they literally raised them for 7 years some cases, over food plots etc.
Love the Big Woods Bucks crew and podcast and videos! Awesome buck. Can’t help but feel that the shot was staged after killing him. Not a big deal, know how hard it is to get footage in the moment.
I’ve watched a lot of his videos and am pretty sure he’s from New Hampshire. I’ve traveled that area, and have noticed the “Boston accent” in certain parts of the state
Ramcharger with a big buck on the hood, hal driving... Don't get much more north woods than that. Hal for president
Love those dark horns!!! Congratulations!!!
You gotta love it, toasted meatloaf! Love your videos Hal. Keep them comming. Thank you.

Awesome hunt. Gonna cost about $4000 to drive that jacked up Ramcharger from Maine to Northern Ontario this year! 😂😂
Oh my !! What a beautiful eight Hal. I I used to hunt just like that in Montana!! Just loved it. Thanks Hal.
That rig is awesome and the buck in the hood just frosting on the cake.
Lol Hal man handled that buck onto the hood... Love it
That looked like a bone chillin' day boys! Way to capitalize, regardless of the elements. A true example of being comfortable being uncomfortable and staying the course. Another great vid🤙🦌
The colors of those horns are awesome. It's like a copper brown... 😍

I like the way you thank the man above. Tom kabusk
Great story & great buck. Did you weigh him?
Some big bodied heavy horned jokers up north there!!
Awesome vid like the old advice and the hunting area don't have terrain like that anymore all farm land now
I love it Ole Hal he looks a little thin 😆 🤣
Hal why are you so cool 😎 awesome video
Legendary
That's a sweet hunt! I imagine there's a fair amount of logging roads there? Seems like super long deer drags! What's your furthest?
Fantastic!!
Great deer Hal! I hunt up by Sudbury Ontario, so I know the fun ur having there.

Have you boys ever come to NB Canada to track bucks?

Great buck. What did it end up weighing?

Nice! Just recently discovered your channel. Question: what type of navigation tools, if any, do you use? Looks like thick woods! Thanks!

How are you using a high-powered rifle in December in Ontario when rifle season is only open for the first two weeks of November
How much you want for that ram charger?
Hmm, wow, great buck Hal, living life more abundantly in our freedoms. Also remembering Pearl Harbor. Lord have mercy on us- Jesus is King
Lord bless, keep and strengthen you, Hal...
I take it smoke odor from fire isn't an issue, nice buck Hal!
watch the video again, observe the method and style of hunting
I’ve hunted in that area of Ontario, had a fire going and had a small buck walk within 20 yards , it didn’t affect him . There was snow on the ground and next day I walked by where I had the fire and there were Fresh Wolf tracks
Wouldn't the deer fit in the back?

Where can I get a coat like you are wearing I don't think it is a FILSON is it ?
Bigwoodsbucks.com. The original jackets were made by Beagle, but the design and wool quality has remained relatively unchanged since
Hal loves sandwiches, I think they’re good luck….. we’ll and also because he’s a pro
Good job I cook a sandwich on a fire most hunting days excellent habit
👍🏻🦌🇨🇦🇺🇸

Hal’s a Mainer like myself. Be kind to him. He doesn’t deserve to be talked about like that.
Mainah
